BILL BLOG Wednesday, September 30, 2026   Last “Hump Day” of September. Heck, September is almost out the door! The last day of September brings warm weather with a high of 90 expected in Nashville today.   Colorado is expecting 34 inches of snow this weekend. Break out the snow skis.   YESTERDAY I wrote a very fun song with my friend Andrea Pearson yesterday. She’s such a great songwriter-singer, but she was happy to jump in on my funny song idea titled “ The Finger .” It’s always great when a songwriting session is filled with so much laughter during the writing of the song.     We’ve written some of my favorite songs together, including a #1 bluegrass song for Caroline Owens , “ Telluride ."        But we've never written something with this kind of humor in it. Now we have.   And when I say Andrea is a singer, I mean she’s a great singer. In demand for singing studio session background vocals, but a heck of singer...

BILL BLOG Tuesday, September 29, 2026    And it’s Tuesday! It’s starting to warm back up again in Nashville. Today’s high will be 86.   YESTERDAY I wrote online with Tim Stafford over in Knoxville, who had a fun idea for a bluegrass song that we wrote. Really enjoy rhyming with Tim.   He told me that “true story” song “ Typhoon ” is already getting some airplay, the song written about the typhoon his dad saw in Okinawa in 1945 when he was a seaman on a carrier ship.      I love songs that have some history tucked into them, and this is certainly one of those.     SPAM I’m always amazed at some of the email I get, and how some of my songs just pop up on the internet.   Yesterday I was contacted by a Barbershop Quartet called “ The Mix Ensemble ,” and they asked permission to use the “ Spam Song ” that I recorded and wrote with Lisa Shaffer years ago, that’s on one of my albums. Here’s an EXAMPLE of thei...

BILL BLOG Monday, September 28, 2026   Monday morning has rolled around. 83 will be the high today in Nashville after a comfortable weekend.   Meanwhile, out in California, they had two earthquakes, and southern California is bracing for Hurricane Polo to come ashore.   And then there’s that Nor’easter that brought lots of damage and flooding and more to the east coast.     What amaze me is that every time HUGE damaging waves show up, some kid will grab his surfboard.     THE WEEKEND Mine started with a very busy Friday where I wrote two songs in one day.   The first being with David Morris , that has a real fun John Prine kind of feel to it.   And the second one with Jerry Salley , as we finished up a song we’ve spent three separate writing sessions on. The good news is, this song with a Mexican flavor turned out so great. We wrote the song with a specific artist in mind who is looking for songs right now, ...

BILL BLOG Friday, September 25, 2026   Ready for the weekend?   It’s Friday. 78 for the high today in Nashville…comfortable.   RAIN We haven’t had any since I can remember. There are a lot of brown lawns in Nashville, and residents are being asked to cut back on watering by the folks in charge of water. My lawn is a nice shade of brown as well. The good news is, we’re saving on paying someone to mow the lawn.     YESTERDAY I sat down with Daryl Mosley and wrote a “smile” song from a little idea I had. Daryl has been the IBMA Songwriter of the Year at least once in his lifetime for Bluegrass Music. He’s a really good and “quick” writer.   More times than not, I’ll bring part of a song to him, and then I just sit quietly, and within less than 30 minutes, he pretty much kicks out the rest of the lyrics we need. Every songwriter is a little different. Some take forever and really beat up a song; others, like Daryl, are the opposite. And I’v...

BILL BLOG Thursday, September 24, 2026   It’s already Thursday, and the weather will be comfortable again in Nashville, with today’s high at 77.   YESTERDAY I spent a big part of Tuesday finishing up a song with Jerry Salley that has a cool Mexico vibe. It all started with a great song title Jerry came up with. We spent a long time working to get this one just right, as he’s working with an artist that he thinks would like this kind of song for his next album. Time will tell.       And we spent as much time talking as we did writing, and that was fun, catching up on each other’s busy lives.   I’m hoping that Jerry and I will share the stage on at least one show coming up at the Blast On The Bay Songwriters Festival in Port St. Joe, Florida, in the middle of October. The full schedule should be released soon.     CHRISTMAS A little early to talk Christmas, I know, but some Christmas things are happening right now, including...
