Monday morning has rolled around. 83 will be the high today in Nashville after a comfortable weekend.
Meanwhile, out in California, they had two earthquakes, and southern California is bracing for Hurricane Polo to come ashore.
And then there’s that Nor’easter that brought lots of damage and flooding and more to the east coast.
What amaze me is that every time HUGE damaging waves show up, some kid will grab his surfboard.
THE WEEKEND
Mine started with a very busy Friday where I wrote two songs in one day.
The first being with David Morris, that has a real fun John Prine kind of feel to it.
And the second one with Jerry Salley, as we finished up a song we’ve spent three separate writing sessions on. The good news is, this song with a Mexican flavor turned out so great. We wrote the song with a specific artist in mind who is looking for songs right now, so here’s hoping the artist likes this as much at Jerry and I do.
That’s Jerry on the far right in the picture above at my songwriter publishing deal at Billy Blue Publishing that he was responsible for. I’ve been writing songs for them for almost 8 years now thanks to Jerry.
TYPHOON
Much to my surprise a new Tim Stafford song was released yesterday, a true story song that Tim’s father witnessed. Tim was kind enough to let me help write this song that features singer Dudley Connell with Tim playing guitar.
The song is titled “Typhoon” and was inspired what Tim’s father witnessed when he was in Okinawa in 1945.
The singer, Dudley Connell, has been the Bluegrass Male Vocalist of the Year, and is a member of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.
FOOTBALL
I did take in a lot of football over the weekend including the Tennessee vs Texas game that took place Saturday over in Knoxville.
How serious is football for Volunteer fans?
Well, Friday night Ella Langley played a concert in Knoxville and she got some loud BOOS from the crowd when she sang, “Choosing Texas.” Pretty danged funny.
Tennessee did lose to the Longhorns, so Ella did “choose” the winner.
SONG OF THE DAY
Young, talented Texas artist Payton Howie has released a new video of “Truck Bed,” the song I wrote with her and Brady Seals one afternoon. This one is a “kick butt” kind of “rockin’ country” tune. And Payton sings the heck out of it.
Payton was coming to Nashville to write for her new project a few months ago. Her management reached out to Brady to ask him to write with Payton, and then Brady reached out to me to ask me to join. Glad he did. Check out the video at the link above.

HIGH-COST WEDDING
President Trumps old personal lawyer, Alina Habba just had a “deficit” wedding. She married a Turkish billionaire and the wedding cost 10 MILLION dollars. They got hitched at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
The music alone cost a million with a 30-piece orchestra and a singer flown in from France to sing the bride’s favorite song. Heck, Mike Tyson was there!
The bride wore a 30-carat diamond ring, and the little bag she carried cost $30,000.
And I have no idea what this wall of flowers they married in front of cost.
The couple obviously had no clue that you could get Elvis to marry you in Vegas for as little as $150.

TODAY
I’ll be online writing with Tim Stafford who I talked about earlier in today's Blog. A couple of weeks ago I was a guest of his talking to a bunch of his class over at ETSU, all majors in bluegrass music. Hopefully, I didn't scar them too much. I'll find out later this morning.
