Last “Hump Day” of September. Heck, September is almost out the door! The last day of September brings warm weather with a high of 90 expected in Nashville today.
Colorado is expecting 34 inches of snow this weekend. Break out the snow skis.
YESTERDAY
I wrote a very fun song with my friend Andrea Pearson yesterday. She’s such a great songwriter-singer, but she was happy to jump in on my funny song idea titled “The Finger.” It’s always great when a songwriting session is filled with so much laughter during the writing of the song.
We’ve written some of my favorite songs together, including a #1 bluegrass song for Caroline Owens, “Telluride."
But we've never written something with this kind of humor in it. Now we have.
And when I say Andrea is a singer, I mean she’s a great singer. In demand for singing studio session background vocals, but a heck of singer herself. Here’s an EXAMPLE of that as she sings next to Vince Gill with the Time Jumpers Band.
Fun fun day yesterday.
NO REGRETS
The new Kristy Cox album, “Winds of Change” will be out in just a couple of weeks. But you can pre-save the album right now if you’d like.
I’m blessed to have the first single off this album, “No Regrets,” written with Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Bearfield that’s climbing the bluegrass charts right now.
And a second song titled “Other Side of the Wine,” that I wrote with Jerry Salley, the producer of this album, and my long time “Hits & Grins” partner Victoria Venier.
Really good album. Grab a copy!
SONG OF THE DAY
My friend Jerry Salley passed along some great news to me when he let me know that the great Del McCoury and his band have recorded a song I wrote with Jerry and Alex Miller. Del is considered the “Bill Monroe” of the bluegrass genre these days. And I’m blessed that Del has already recorded a song I wrote with Josh Shilling, “Once Again.” So, that’s my song pick for today.
HEALTH NOTES
A cancer patient is suing a hospital after a surgeon allegedly amputated the wrong leg. (How does that ever happen?)
The Congo’s Ebola outbreak has now topped 8,000 confirmed cases.
A study supports the idea that insomnia is linked to a higher risk of dementia, stroke, suicide and other major health issues.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Thank you for letting me know.
DON’T DO THIS
A teenager and a couple of young buddies decide to try and grab some Tik Tok views. So, one of the teens sits in the middle of a road while another cuts his hair. You can probably guess what happens. A truck involved in a crash hits the teen. He’s in serious condition.
My head hurts from shaking my head after reading that.
My friend Brent Burns and I wrote a song, not recorded yet titled, “I Don’t Want to Die THAT Way.” Can you figure out where the inspiration for that song came from?
PRIME DAY
Tomorrow is the day for online shoppers looking for deals. Prime Day. Or as I like to call it, “Box Day.”
DO I WANT THIS?
I don’t think I can order this on Prime Day.
Our Nashville hockey team, the Predators, are selling that Predator gravy bowl. Why is it shaped like a fish? It’s because fans throw catfish out on the ice during games. I can’t make that up folks.
I’m thinking they should sell hockey pucks that looks like a biscuit to go with that gravy bowl.
SPELL CHECK
Ever sit in a church pew and read the church bulletin? Someone goes to a lot of trouble to write and print those which can lead to a “blooper” or two…like these:
Our next song is “Angels We Have Heard Get High.”
Thursday night…Potluck Supper. Prayer and Medication to follow.
And then there is this church bulletin classic:
Next Sunday is the family hayride and bonfire at the Fowlers’. Bring your own hot dogs and guns. Friends are welcome! Everyone come for a fun time.
Spell check brethren, spell check.
GET ME A TICKET!
Major League Baseball playoffs have started as we are working towards the World Series.
While that’s going on, word came out that the MLB is considering playing a game in the Grand Tetons. Yep. Imagine this kind of view from your baseball seat.
Another “Field of Dreams” kind of setting for baseball perhaps. I’m in.
CUP OF AMBITION
Dolly Parton's brand of coffee, "Cup of Ambition" is available now.
And before she passed, she made a commercial for her brand. And here's that COMMERCIAL.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Steve Jobs:
“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
TODAY
I’ll be spending some time rehearsing the two songs I’ll be singing at Zanie’s Comedy Club here in Nashville as a guest of my friend Angus Gill, who will be making his stand-up debut in the states. Angus is from Australia, so it will be interesting seeing how his Aussie sense of humor translates tonight.
Gonna be fun.
Have a great Wednesday!
