And it’s Tuesday! It’s starting to warm back up again in Nashville. Today’s high will be 86.
YESTERDAY
I wrote online with Tim Stafford over in Knoxville, who had a fun idea for a bluegrass song that we wrote. Really enjoy rhyming with Tim.
He told me that “true story” song “Typhoon” is already getting some airplay, the song written about the typhoon his dad saw in Okinawa in 1945 when he was a seaman on a carrier ship.
I love songs that have some history tucked into them, and this is certainly one of those.
SPAM
I’m always amazed at some of the email I get, and how some of my songs just pop up on the internet.
Yesterday I was contacted by a Barbershop Quartet called “The Mix Ensemble,” and they asked permission to use the “Spam Song” that I recorded and wrote with Lisa Shaffer years ago, that’s on one of my albums.
Here’s an EXAMPLE of their sound as they sing about the World’s Largest Ball of Twine.
How can I say no to that? They will be using it in some kind of “mash up” of songs somewhere in the future. Hormel, the company that makes Spam is from Minnesota. Somehow, that’s all going to tie in and make sense with montage of songs.
Can’t wait to get a copy of that, and share it with you.
SONG OF THE DAY
Six years ago, today my second Mom Dean Raymer passed away. She was my manager for many years back in my band days, but so much more than that.
She was someone who was always there for me, someone I could call and laugh with, and get advice from that I took to heart.
I wrote this song “HowLucky Am I” that Kristy Cox recorded with Jimmy Fortune singing harmony that was inspired by her. It’s easily my song of the day.

Like that. That’s the “rainbow” watch Tom Brady wore last weekend covering an NFL game, one of many in his collection. The rainbow refers to all the gems in the watch.
I’m pretty sure if I ever owned a watch that expensive, I’d go “Minnie Pearl” and leave the price tag dangling off it.

You can get some deals, maybe even a free cup at some places today. I still drink mine black. Something my dad taught me when he caught me wanting to drink some at a young age. “Drink it like a man” kind of thing.
I should get a T-shirt that says that says, “Drink It Like a Man.”

I’m writing with the talented Vancouver native that is Andrea Pearson. It seems every time we get together, something good walks out of the writing room.
I’m hoping that’s the case again today.
And then I’m going to put my feet up and watch some baseball playoff games that start today. 4 games on today. My Reds had a horrible season, so I’ll be rooting for the Brewers after following them for six years when I lived and worked in Milwaukee.
