Computer Issues...Couch Concert...Bonanza

BILL BLOG

Tuesday February 4, 2025

Tuesday morning with cloudy skies and a high of 60 in Nashville today. It was like spring done sprung yesterday with sunshine and temps in the mid 70’s. Beautiful.

YESTERDAY

I wound up having a lazy day when my co-writer Andrea Pearson had to cancel because of strep throat, which is zero fun. So I’m hoping she’s healing a little today.

I spent the rest of the day dealing with computer issues as my laptop has crashed and burned which is why this morning’s Blog is being posted later than normal. I’m hoping the computer God’s will have mine fixed sometime today. Amazing how you feel like your entire life revolves around a danged computer.

LAST NIGHT

I participated in a little house concert in town hosted by Ginny Foley who’s a friend and true lover of original music. She does everything she can to promote that and hosts songwriters in her home several times a year. Last night I was there with a great family bluegrass band Williamson Branch.

Man it was a pleasure to hear this family pick and sing. One of the daughter’s was missing as she’s about to deliver her first baby. But all three of the girls are so talented musically and vocally. Here’s a little EXAMPLE of what they do.

Thank you Ginny for having me on your couch last night.

MORE COUNTRY THAN YOU
I’m happy to see so many folks checking out the duet from my friends Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts More Country Than You”. Click the link if you’ve not yet heard this fun bickering between the two about whose more country that the three of us wrote.

Yesterday they posted this picture about how maybe they should have won a “Country Grammy” over Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus.

I’m voting for Alex and Emily.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m selecting the fun song “If There Was No Alcohol” that Rob Bellamy recorded. The idea was Rob’s who wanted a beachy type bar sing along type of song. Imagine what the world would be without having something to toast or celebrate with. That’s the gist of this tune.

HEALTH NOTES

A recent U.K. study suggests that wearing continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) could lower the risk of dementia.

Some Gerber teeth products have been recalled over potential choking hazards for children.

A study says older adults experience fewer attention difficulties if the temperature inside their homes is between 68-75 degrees.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I’m afraid to book an appointment to find out.

BONANZA?

The new head of the Department of Homeland Security saddled up near the border yesterday.

Did anyone else think it looked like a casting call for a reboot of the old TV western “Bonanza”?  Just me?

HAD TO HAPPEN

State Farm is asking for a 20% home increase rate in California after the massive wildfires and damages there. There’s a reason insurance companies make a lot of money.

SPEAKING OF HIGHER

Waffle House is adding a surcharge of 50 cents on every egg ordered now to help offset the high price of eggs because of the bird flu. So I guess I’m having the scattered and expensive for a while.

SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL

One more that we’ll be seeing Super Bowl Sunday when the Eagles and Chiefs square off in New Orleans. This one starring Ben Affleck and his brother Casey in yet another Dunkin’ Donut commercial.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ORDER

So this guy orders a drill from an online China website. Look what he got back.

Uh huh. Be careful what you order online folks.

THE CITY KEEPS GROWING

Nashville just put in a bid for a WNBA basketball team. Basketball star Candace Parker has teamed up with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and the Governor of Tennessee to try and make that happen.

Meanwhile the Governor also said at the press conference that he does believe Nashville will get a Major League Baseball team one day. Yes! I only hope it’s sooner than later. There’s nothing more fun that sitting in a ballpark with a $12 dollar beer in your hand rooting on the home team. We’ll see what happens.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Determined Beau Proposed To Girlfriend On Chaotic Flight With Unruly Passenger Duct Taped Beside Them. (You can’t make this kind of stuff up)

TODAY

I’ll be sitting by the phone hoping the computer shop calls to tell me they have fixed my computer without losing any data. Fingers are firmly crossed.

Have a great Tuesday!

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

Tornado Night...Good Music News...Buckaroo Lullaby

BILL BLOG Thursday April 3, 2025   Thursday morning. It’s about 5 AM as I’m starting this blog and it’s been a really long night with tornado warnings. LOTS of them. We were hunkered down for an hour and a half in the middle of the night in our safe place. Our tornado warning just lifted but there may be more on the way. Lots of hail…large hail and winds and VERY heavy rain that is going to hang around and cause major flooding all over the Nashville area.   As I’m trying to get this blog in this Thursday morning, I have the TV on watching the radar for updates. When the sun rises at about 6:30 I’m hoping to look out and see our trees still standing. And I’m rooting for the power to stay on as well. We’ve already had 2 deaths reported and it’s early.   And the weather folks are saying we could have another system coming through on Saturday. It’s been a long while since I’ve sat through a stormy system that lasts as long as this one is going to. A...

A Baby Song...Parrot Head Show...Spring Break

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 16, 2025   Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne , who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. I was happy to be her co-writer on this yesterday.     MOTM GIG I found out yesterday that my friend Brent Burns and I will be playing a show on one of the ma...
