Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne, who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. I was happy to be her co-writer on this yesterday.
MOTM GIG
I found out yesterday that my friend Brent Burns and I will be playing a show on one of the main stages for this year’s huge Parrot Head gathering down in Gulf Shores that’s called MOTM “Meeting of the Minds”. We will be playing a show on the Back Stage on October 23 at 10:30 AM that morning.
And I’ll be co-emceeing the entire event that week with Margaritaville Radio host Krystal King. There will be a couple of other shows added, I’m sure as we get closer to October. I’ve got to stock up on shorts, flowered shirts, and flip-flops.
SONG OF THE DAY
So with the news of the beach gig, I’ll share this little beach tune recorded by Adam and Amy Pope “Alabama Coast”. I wrote this song with the duo and it’s all about running away to Gulf Shores, Alabama where MOTM will be held in October.
HEALTH NOTES
A report claims that whooping cough cases have increased by 1500% leaving two dead and health officials concerned that it could be the next outbreak.
There were more babies born to women over 40 than teens for the first time in US history.
Measle cases in Texas have now reached a total of 521 with 20 new cases reported in that outbreak.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Somebody dropped some dollars just to embarrass their fishing buddy.
TREE PERSON
Yesterday we had a tree person come out to talk about taking down a tree that’s been split. I’m only bringing it up because I liked the T-shirt she was wearing when she showed up.
CHEAPER TO FLY
United is dropping its airfare by 4% citing soft demand for flying right now and inflation. If you need to fly, now might be a good time to save a few bucks.
UGLY
A bride came under fire because she picked ugly bridesmaids. She said, “You don’t want people to outshine you.” Wow. Wonder what happens if you can’t find people uglier than you are?
CASH
A leading financial planner believes that we should not keep a lot of cash in the house. No more than 500-$1,000. Only my wife would know how much cash we have in the house. I’m on a “not need to know” basis.
NO SPRING BREAK
Panama City Florida is taking Miami’s lead and they’re done with Spring Break from happening in their town. Mostly. The Mayor is working with city officials to find a way to deter the bad behavior. Too many disturbances. Too much crime. Lots of drugs and firearms. Over 200 police were called on duty to manage the rowdiness.
I spent a week in Panama City earlier this year. It was very quiet. One restaurant I visited had a lot of empty tables and the greeter shared with me that the next week people would be lined up 4 deep trying to get in. Spring breakers.
It was surely beautiful when I was there…and quiet.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Rooms With Broken Air Conditioners Are Hot. (A real headline folks)
TODAY
I’ll be writing with my buddy Jerry Salley today who is the head of Billy Blue Records on top of being a hit songwriter-singer and more. I’ve got a title that made him laugh when I shared it with him last week and he insisted he had to be the one to write that idea with me. He should be careful what he wishes for!
Oh, and he hangs out with bigger people than I do.
Have a great Wednesday!
