BILL BLOG
Thursday April 3, 2025
Thursday morning. It’s about 5 AM as I’m starting this blog and it’s been a really long night with tornado warnings. LOTS of them. We were hunkered down for an hour and a half in the middle of the night in our safe place. Our tornado warning just lifted but there may be more on the way. Lots of hail…large hail and winds and VERY heavy rain that is going to hang around and cause major flooding all over the Nashville area.
As I’m trying to get this blog in this Thursday morning, I have the TV on watching the radar for updates. When the sun rises at about 6:30 I’m hoping to look out and see our trees still standing. And I’m rooting for the power to stay on as well. We’ve already had 2 deaths reported and it’s early.
And the weather folks are saying we could have another system coming through on Saturday. It’s been a long while since I’ve sat through a stormy system that lasts as long as this one is going to. And I sat through plenty growing up in Missouri.
Right now, it’s LOUD outside our windows with thunder and lightning. I’m hoping folks are heeding the constant warnings and staying in their safe place. Unreal.
And now they just put up another tornado warning where we live in effect for yet another half hour.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with former journalist and White House correspondent David Morris and Billy Jam recording artist Alex Miller.
David who lives out east makes a long drive to Nashville every few weeks just to sit in a room with folks like me and Alex in person. David is part of the Billy Blue Publishing company and he's a staff writer as I am who does a lot of online writing with folks because he lives so far away. The three of us wrote a “classic” type song with a gentle swing beat to it that Alex came up with that was fun to write.
One more song in the catalog.
GOOD MUSIC NEWS
The Kristy Cox gospel-grass song “God Never Made A Mountain” has made a little noise for Kristy aor me and my two co-writers on the song Josh Shilling and Andrea Pearson. It’s been on top of multiple charts and is STILL on this chart that you see below.
Yesterday I ran into her producer Jerry Salley who told me they have recorded a new gospel project on Kristy and have decided to add our song to that album as well. Wow. One song…on two albums by the same artist. And the song might wind up being the title track for the new album. Pretty danged cool.
And Alex Miller who I talked about told me at lunch that his new album that’s coming out in a few months will include a song the two of us wrote as well as that fun duet he recorded with Emily Ann Roberts “More Country Than You”. AND…that song could very well be the title track for that album.
It would be a mild understatement to say I had a really good music day yesterday.
SONG OF THE DAY
I want to share another Paul Bogart song I helped write today because of this picture I saw on Paul’s Facebook page of him and his three kids all on horseback on his ranch out in Oklahoma.
Buckeroo Lullaby was written about the first Buckaroo born into the Bogart family for Paul and his beautiful wife Tonya. Paul had told me the morning that he wrote this song and that he had been singing songs to put Jett to sleep at night. Jett is the tallest boy in the back of the horse line in that great picture above. Paul wanted to write a REAL lullaby to sing to his first boy. And on a road trip home to Nashville at the time with his band who had been out west playing shows, he started humming a melody. And he showed me the first verse and asked if I would have any interest in writing it. Here’s what he had written.
Go gather old Buckshot and pour him some grain
And curry the burrs from his hide
Throw on your best saddle and tighten it up
And crawl in the middle and ride
And he had this BEAUTIFUL cowboy waltz melody to go with it. Did I want to write it? Did I ever? It’s one of my very favorite songs that I’ve written. I love cowboy songs so this is just such a pleasure to be a part of.
Paul had a brand-new album finished, but when he played this song for his producer the next morning they went back into the studio and added our little cowboy song. Click on the song link above to listen.
HEALTH NOTES
A new COVID variant labeled as LP.8.1 is on the rise. In Australia 1 in 5 cases are linked to it.
New research is saying a shingles shot protects the brain from aging for 20% of those who get that shot for up to 7 years.
An early study is saying that Ozempic is linked to hair loss.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Something to think about y’all.
AMUSEMENT PARKS
Surveys taken by Google and Trip Advisor revealed the favorite theme parks in the country. The top 5 are:
1 Discovery Cove in Florida
2 Knoebels Amusement Park in PA
3 Smoky Mt. Alpine Coaster in TN
4 Universal Studios in Orlando
5 Disney’s California Adventure
What’s interesting about the list is that none of the parks at Disney World in Orlando made the top 5 lists from those taking the survey. The extremely high prices at the Happiest Place On Earth may be the reason It now costs a family of four over three thousand dollars to go there.
THEM AND US
The Olsen Twins have a luxury line of clothing. Flip-flops are one of the items in their luxury line.
Those bad boys will cost you $690…for flip-flops. Wow. I think I’ll stick with these stunners. Much cheaper.
SOME GOOD NEWS
A dozen eggs can now be gotten for $3. A pretty good drop in price from where it’s been. And now if I could just order a cheeseburger and fries at 5 Guys for under $20 I’ll be really happy.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Threat Disrupts Plans to Meet About Threats. (But they’re threatening to meet again about those threats I’m sure)
TODAY
I’m pretty sure my writing appointment will be canceled today because of the extreme weather. We are going to get hit with another long round of this starting this afternoon and we could be in our safe place again early tomorrow morning. The flooding is going to be a 1 in 100-year event according to those in the know. Right now, we have a little break in the action. All of our schools are closed and a lot of Nashville has no power. Never seen anything quite like this storm. Thankful for all the weather folks working round the clock to keep us updated.
Have a great Thursday!
