Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG

Friday April 4, 2025

Friday morning in soggy Nashville.

YESTERDAY

It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.

Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.

Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.

Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to need a friend with a chainsaw to remove a large part of a tree that’s down in our backyard. And we do have a ton of flooding in Music City. In fact, my Uber driver’s name today is Noah.

I’ve never seen a storm in my lifetime that has lingered quite like this one. Seeing the sun would be a cause for celebration right now.

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a different one for you…a funny song I recorded. Written with hit writers Wil Nance & Steve DeanWWJP”. This was written when there were a lot of news stories about boys using girl’s bathrooms and vice versa and trying to figure out where one should go when they have to go. Check out Where Would Jesus Pee? (WWJP)

HEALTH NOTES

Scientists say it’s a fact that heavy alcohol use leads to long-term brain damage.

After the sad news of actor Val Kilmer’s passing doctors are reminding us that the chance of viral pneumonia increases with age and chronic illness. Early detection is the key to surviving it.

Scientists claim that even if you only exercise on weekends that it still has positive mental health benefits.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I see what you did there!

TARIFFS

I’m buying a mask to wear over my eyes so that I don’t have to look at my 401K or the stock market in light of the stomach-sickening drop the market is on right now after Trump announced the tariffs. So far that hasn’t gone over well with the international community. Coffee, cars, iPhones, and more are going to jump in price.

For the last two days, my phone has been dinging and ringing with bad weather alerts. I’m surprised it’s not dinging about financial alerts as well.

Heck, it’s gotten so bad that I’m going to take time out of my schedule today to look up what tariff means.

SPEAKING OF COFFEE

Do I need one of these?

It’s a Ferrari engine coffee table. Uh huh. It will be up for sale at an auction and is expected to fetch at least $50,000. I can’t afford a Ferrari. I don’t race cars. But I do love music. I would put in a bid on this coffee table.

JOKE

Mom: Anton, do you think I’m a bad mother?

Anton: My name is Paul.

CHURCH-WRESTLING

In England, they now have a Wrestling Church. Yep. Pro wrestlers in a ring in a church. The ultimate God vs the Devil I suppose.

They say it brings in a “different” crowd. I’m sure that’s true.

Cowboy Churches are popping up everywhere as well. There’s a church in Virginia that features improv comedy.

I’m convinced there’s a church for everyone.

FORE!

Check out this monster that was roaming around on a golf course in South Carolina that authorities had to wrestle away.

That will slow a golf game down a bit.

Golfers should know by now to never look for a lost golf ball in South Carolina or Florida. And never look for a lost golf ball on an Arizona golf course.

Uh-no. No wonder so many people are taking up Pickleball.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

A funny one from the fake news folks Babylon Bee.

Cracker Jack Changes Name To More Politically Correct Caucasian Jack.

TODAY

With all the bad weather we’re experiencing online writing is not a bad way to go. I’ll be looking at bluegrass great Tim Stafford on my computer today to write a new song.

THE WEEKEND

Lazy weekend ahead. Final 4 and baseball watching are on my “to-do” list.

Have a great weekend!

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...
