Wednesday January 8, 2025
It’s Wednesday and still cold in Nashville this morning. A high of just 30 today with some snow and freezing rain possible Friday.
Meanwhile, the highest winds in a decade are helping whip up that massive fire out in the LA area right now. Maybe our cold isn’t so bad after all.
YESTERDAY
I spent some time going back and forth with my friend Brent Burns down in Gulf Shores over some new songs we’ve written…some of those about to be recorded when he comes up here to Nashville at the end of the month to play the Bluebird Café with me and my “Hits & Grins” friends Steve Dean & Victoria Venier.
It will be Brent’s first time getting to play the world famous intimate venue that every songwriter wants to play at least once in their songwriting lifetime.
Once again there will be a pretty good mix of beach songs and funny songs…many that we’ve written over the past couple of years. And I think we may have found an album title during the conversation on the phone as well. So it turned into a pretty productive Tuesday.
SPEAKING OF THE BLUEBIRD
I got a nice text from my Virginia friend Barry Hutchens last night who wandered if I’d like to play with him and his equally talented son Will Hutchens at the Bluebird on February 13? Why yes. So it’s pretty cool that I get to play there in both January and February. Will and his son Barry are both great bluegrass-country singers and pickers who I write with once in a while when they come to Nashville. Thanks for asking Barry. We’ll play the 6 pm show that night with a 4th songwriter to be named later.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I’m talking about Mr. Burns…might as well choose
another song he recorded that we wrote. This one is "66 Mustang Summer of 82" that landed on Brent's last album. Brent had a 66 Mustang convertible he restored...cherry red that he wound up giving to his daughter when he got tired of it. So I suggested we write a song around that car and that time of his life and give it a little "Eagles' kind of vibe. Turned out great in the studio for sure. Check it out...just click the ole link above to listen.
DAD BRAG
Just another little something my daughter Heather sewed. I have no idea where that talent comes from. For her New Year’s Eve Birthday present we gave her a dress form…the thing you hang the dresses on. Looks like she’s making good use of it.
HEALTH NOTES
Rabbit fever cases have risen 100% in the US. One more thing to worry about. Medically known as Tularemia in case you’re wondering like I was. Symptoms include nausea, chills, headache and dry cough.
A clinical nutritionist claims the lowest calorie drinks are dry champagne, red wine, dry white wine, hard seltzer and Lite beer.
A nutritionist expert agrees that raw potatoes have a lot of vitamin C. But if you eat them raw in should be in moderation because of other health problems that could arise.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Unless you want to learn to yodel of course.
TRUMP AND MEXICO
Trump (jokingly?) is saying he will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Uh huh. And that makes me worry that I’ll have to change my birth certificate as I was born in a hospital in Mexico, Missouri.
America-Missouri doesn’t really have a great ring to it.
Oh and the comments have started. One person asks, "where are my freedom fries".
Another, "I'm sure that will help lower the cost of eggs."
And..."Tex Mex will become Tex-America".
One last one. "And now we've entered the era of can he really do that'??
Mark Zuckerberg is set to end “fact checking” on Facebook. Could be the wild wild west of comments being posted from now on…not to mention ever more conspiracy theories.
Some of the latest conspiracies include these.
Amelia Earhart was eaten by crabs.
Bill Gates is making fake snow that burns instead of melts.
And Zombies can rise from the dead.
No need to fact check any of those right?
SPEED DATING
How about this Busch Light racing promotion. They will let 8 singles get in a car and go 180 mph around the track in Daytona and get to know each other VERY quickly. They are calling it the “DATE-TONA” event. The Busch Light folks say that they believe in the power of connecting over shared passions…and beer. Mostly beer I think.
So the couples have about 100 seconds to connect…or share a beer. And right now somewhere here in Nashville where he lives…Darrel Waltrip is shouting “Boogity Boogity Boogity”!
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Guy Gets Trapped In Self-Driving Car That Keeps Going In
Circles. (So the answer to this Billy Preston hit is...YES!
TODAY
I’ll be online writing with my buddy Tim Stafford this morning. Such a great bluegrass writer-teacher-author-guitar player and more. And that’s not a conspiracy theory.
Have a great Wednesday!
