Black Hawk Down...Retired States...Pensacola Songwriters Festival

BILL BLOG Friday October 4, 2024   Friday morning on the beach in Orange Beach, Alabama. 76 for a high here on the beach today and it looks like some heavy rain is on the way as I get ready to make a trip over to Pensacola for the songwriters festival there.     And now hurricane Kirk is forming out in the Atlantic. It’s already at Cat 4.   YESTERDAY My veteran that I was assigned to write with Larry Perino came to the condo I was staying in and we sat and talked about his amazing service to our country.   If you saw the movie Blackhawk Down? Larry was right in the middle of that horrendous firefight in Somalia. 18 Americans died, man more wounded. Over 1,000 Somalian lives were claimed in that battle with those War Lords.     Larry had his hand on one his soldiers when that soldier was hit, and later died.   He was their platoon leader.   25 years in the service as an Army Ranger. Came out as a Corporal who was deployed many times. In battle m

Orange Beach...Freedom Sings...Lonely In The Lonestar

BILL BLOG Thursday October 3, 2024   And a good Thursday morning from Gulf Shores-Orange Beach, Alabama. Always great waking up with a view of the beach and ocean. 87 for a high here today with light rain, cooler with more rain on the way tomorrow. And all eyes down here are looking at the next tropical storm “Kirk” that seems to be on the way.      YESTERDAY I made the maybe 7 hour trip down here from Nashville and checked into beautiful condo that sits on Perdido Bay.   Three other songwriters also made the trip. Steve Dean , Mutt Cooper and Bill Diluigi for Freedom Sings USA . We thought about jumping in the lazy river pool that you see here but our call time made us have to skip jumping in and doing a cannonball. The world was saved.     Instead we made our way over the beautiful Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach to meet and play for our veterans.   The Arts Center also sits on the Bay and is home to local artwork that is displayed and so

Freedom Sings USA...Pensacola Songwriters Festival...Overheard At McDonald's

BILL BLOG Wednesday October 2, 2024   Wednesday morning…up early and rolling towards Orange Beach, Alabama. It will be 87 and sunny on the beach there today with some rain moving in after that.   YESTERDAY It was packing day for yet another road trip. Tonight and tomorrow I’m with Freedom Sings USA for a songwriter retreat with our veterans in beautiful Orange Beach, Alabama.   Then Friday and Saturday I’m part of 3 song writers show at the Pensacola Songwriters Festival with two of those shows being on stages that look at the water…if we don’t get any rain. Looking forward to both. I always like trips that require packing some sunscreen in the bag.     CMA AWARDS I also took some time to cast my vote for this year’s CMA nominees. The show itself will air Wednesday November 20 on ABC and will be hosted by Peyton Manning , Luke Bryan and this year Lainey Wilson will join them. That could be fun. Good luck to all. The night of the CMA’s I’ll once a

BILL BLOG Tuesday October 1, 2024   Tuesday morning and the first day of October is already here. How can that possibly be? Some sunshine and a high of 80 on the way for today.   YESTERDAY Monday was surely a day of catching up on some household stuff after being on the road for 4 days…with 4 more days on the road starting tomorrow.   I found out I now have 3 shows instead of 2 at the Pensacola Songwriters Festival this Friday. I’ve been added to a show at the Holiday Inn Beach Resort on Friday at 6 pm at the outdoor Tiki Bar looking at the ocean. Tough work huh?   Songwriters Jeff Silvey and Earl Bud Lee will join me. Earl wrote a little ditty for Garth Brooks that did okay…”Friends In Low Places.”   Then I have a second show Friday at the Native CafĂ© with bluegrass greats Jerry Salley and Larry Cordle at 8 pm.   And on Saturday you can find me at the first ever Bluegrass on the Beach night at the Casino Beach Bar and Grill that also has a view of the Gulf
