A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG

Tuesday November 26, 2024

Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.

YESTERDAY

I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.

NEW SHOW

On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.

And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he never got to play the Bird. That all changes January 28.  Steve Dean & Victoria Venier will also be part of this show.

More details will be coming soon…but know that every single show sells out at the Bluebird in a heartbeat…so if you’re trying to get tickets…try ordering the second they go on sale.

PRESENT IN THE MAIL

And I got this great present from my Paris, Missouri friend and co-writer Becky Denton in the mail yesterday.

This is Becky’s brand new EP with 4 songs on it including one I wrote with her and her talented drummer-piano player-producer husband Will Denton “Planting Seeds”. This is the song that the Merschman Feed Company in Iowa is going to use for some of their commercials. And we’re happy to have them use it.

SONG OF THE DAY

So…why don’t I link you to that song I just mentioned from Becky Denton. Here’s “Plant A Little Seed” that we wrote at their part time condo here in Nashville a few years ago. Love this little tune.

AN INTERVIEW

A few months ago an old radio acquaintance Herb Day from just north of Cincinnati came into my publishing company when he was in Nashville and did an on camera interview with me. It was finally uploaded to his You Tube Channel so check it out here if you want to hear me talk about radio, songwriting, comedy, entertaining and more. Thanks for the interview Herb.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study is saying that green tea and cocoa might help counteract “stress eating”.

President Biden is proposing that Medicare or Medicaid should cover anti-obesity drugs for 7.4 million Americans.

The bird flu virus has now been detected in milk in California.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I don’t even want to know what prompted them to have to hang this sign.

TOP TV SHOWS…ALL TIME
What would yours be? You can find a lot of lists from TV expert folks and none of them are the same. But…they’re always fun to check out. This one is from Variety Magazine…and here’s their Top 10 choices.

10…Roots

9… The Mary Tyler Moore Show

8… Seinfeld

7… The Wire (a cop show on HBO)

6… Sex and the City

5… Breaking Bad

4… The Simpsons

3… The Sopranos

2… Mad Men

And Variety’s choice for Best TV Show for all time?

I Love Lucy.

Of that top 10 I think I’d only have two in my Top 10 List. Those would be Lucy, and Seinfeld. Cheers, Friends, and M*A*S*H would certainly be part of my Top 10 choices.

WORD

Dictionary.com has just named “demure” as the 2024 “Word of the Year”. A Tik Tok influencer used the word a lot and it spread apparently. I can’t remember if I’ve ever said the word “demure” or not.

I might have use it in as a redneck phrase once as, “I looked in “demure” this morning and realized I missed a spot shaving. (Maybe)

“Demure” beat out the other top choices of “brainrot”, “brat”, and “weird”.

ANOTHER MUSICAL GIFT

Check out my great friend and terrific singer Lang Scott in this video from long ago as he was doing a TV show here in Nashville hosted by Boxcar Willie. Lang was a guest with The Judds in this episode.  Remember Boxcar Willie?  Lang and Linda Davis and I do “Evening in the Round” shows all over the country and his voice just always kill. Click on the link and see and hear my friend back when his career was just starting.

ANOTHER LIST

This one from U.S News and World Report listing the Top Cities in the U.S. to live in. Nashville creeped in at #50.

10 Boulder

9 Austin

8 Virginia Beach

7 Huntsville

6 Raleigh

5 Charlotte

4 Greenville, SC

3 Colorado Springs

2 Boise

And the #1 choice is Naples, Florida.

HOW A NURSE WOULD DO IT

Merry Christmas nurse style.

TODAY

It’s Thanksgiving week so it’s gotten a tad lazy around the Whyte House. So I’m going to enjoy a little “lazy” today.

Have a great Tuesday!

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
