Wednesday morning be here and it’s going to be spring like with sunshine and a high of 62. No complaints here.
LAST NIGHT
What a special night last night at the Bluebird Café. My friend Brent Burns was in the songwriter round with me and my “Hits & Grins” musical partners Victoria Venier & Steve Dean and it was Brent’s very first time to play at the Bluebird.
Both his son and daughter made the trip…the son from Gulf Shores and the daughter from Texas and Brent had several of his fans in the house as well. And as they say, “he done good”. It made me really happy to be a part of making this happen for my friend.
And hour and a half flies by when you get the chance to play at the Bluebird and boy did it ever.
And my friends Linda Davis and Lang Scott came out as well and got up and sang a Lady A song that the three of us sing in our “Evening in the Round” shows “I Run To You”. Their daughter Hillary Scott is the girl singer in Lady A. Every cell phone went up in the place when the two of them got up…sang that song and blew the roof off the place.
Victoria wowed folks with her voice as she always does, and Steve Dean had the crowd singing along loudly to his Rodney Atkins hit “Watching You” to close out a memorable evening at the Bluebird Café. Thanks to all of you who came!
SCHEDULE AHEAD
Now that the Bluebird is behind us I’m getting ready to right back and play it again on February on a Thursday February 13 at 6 pm with blue-grassers Barry & Will Hutchens (father team from Virginia) and Laura Leigh Jones from North Carolina. 6 pm show.
Friday, March 7 I’ll be in Crockett, Texas with Linda Davis and Lang Scott.
Saturday, March 8 in Marshall, Texas with Linda and Lang for our “Evening in the Round” show.
Friday March 15 & 15 in Huntsville, Alabama with Freedom Sings USA writing songs with veteran plus a free concert honoring those vets on Saturday the 15th.
Friday, March 21 in Americus, Georgia with Linda Davis and Lang Scott.
Complete details on all of these shows and others available under the TOUR tab on my website.
IN THE HOUSE LAST NIGHT
We had a couple who came to the Bluebird show last night who drove from Toronto to visit Nashville and the Bluebird was high on their list of places to visit. Nice folks.
And then there were two young ladies seated close to me that were there from Scotland…their second visit to the Bluebird. Turns out that one of them is in charge of the “Highland Games” over in Scotland. Where some beefy guys do this.
I talked with them about my last name being spelled W H Y T E and they confirmed that it is very Scottish indeed as I had been told. In fact they talked about a famous brand of Scottish whiskey being named Whyte…actually WHYTE MACKAY which was something I had never heard. Thank you for coming!
SONG OF THE DAY
Since Brent Burns played at the Bluebird last night for the first time I’ve chosen another Brent song for today’s feature titled “Get Off My Beach” about an angry man in Gulf Shores upset during tourism season when Spring Break hits and things get crazy. Think about the old man that yell, “Get off my lawn!”. Except in this case in at the beach.
HEALTH NOTES
Federal health authorities have upgraded their recall of 13-ounce Frito-Lay potato chips over fears that consuming the products, which may contain undeclared milk, could be potentially fatal.
The tuberculosis outbreak in Kansas that has killed 2 already continue to grow according to health experts.
Reportedly British troops are being jabbed with weight loss shots to get them fit for battle.
SIGN OF THE DAY
It happens.
DRONING ON
The Trump folks say those drones are nothing to worry about. They were all approved FAA flights doing research. What kind of research? No idea…and they didn’t say. But they’re telling us it’s not enemy drones. Some won’t believe that I’m sure because it’s a lot more fun to speculate about which planet the aliens are coming from.
NASHVILLE AIRPORT
The Nashville newspaper The Tennessean this morning put up a poll asking us would we rather rename our airport Trump International or Dolly Parton International? I don’t see either happening but just in case I’m casting my vote for Dolly hoping they will line the terminal with some of her funny quotes through the years.
Like, “I had to get rich so I could sing like I was poor again.”
Or “The secret to a long marriage is to stay gone”.
And “Plastic surgeons are always making mountains out of molehills”
Yep…Trump International I’m sure would be “beauuuuutiful”…but I’m on team Parton.
SPEAKING PLANES AND AIRPORT
They’ve given a phrase to those passengers who jump up the minute the plane lands to clog the aisle and or try to move forward through a sea of other people already standing up. “Aisle Lice.” And no spray seems to stop them.
SUPER BOWL
Here’s another Super Bowl commercial we’ll be looking at when the Eagles and Chiefs rumble in the New Orleans Superdome. This one is a Mich Ultra commercial featuring actors Willem Dafoe and Catherine O’hara.
CVS APP
How about this CVS app that allows a customer to open those danged lock shelves…anti-theft shelves? Nobody likes those. So this app lets customers who are approved to sign up, download the app, and then you won’t have to wait for 30 minutes for a store employee to show up with a string of keys and then search for the one that will open up the case. It’s being tested in a few markets now. Bring it on.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
“Starvation Can Lead To Health Hazards.” (Sometime ya gotta warn folks.)
TODAY
Brent Burns will be joining me at the house today and we’ll be spending time going over new songs that he’ll be recording on a new album. The session leader Dave Frances will come over and chart out these 4 or 5 songs…and then we hit the studio for full days tomorrow and Friday. Busy fun days ahead.
Have a great Wednesday!
