Monday morning has rolled around. Does anyone else hear this song in their heads every time Monday shows up? Just me?
The winds have died down finally in LA helping firefighters…but now officials are worried about heavy rain that could cause mudslides. Truly a case of “if it ain’t one thing it’s another.”
Here in Nashville today we will hit a high of 47…but 60 degree temps are coming this week.
THE WEEKEND
Mine started Friday with songwriter Shantell Ogden who was out visiting her parents in Yuma, Arizona…they’re snowbirds. So we wrote an idea she wanted to write online doing that old Zoom thing. Shantell is working on a Christmas movie that she’s going to start filming here in Nashville in a couple of months. We’ve written a couple of songs toward that project. Here’s hoping that one of those lands in her little movie.
SATURDAY
I went to big bluegrass convention Saturday afternoon in Nashville and visited with a lot of fellow writers, entertainers and folks in that industry. Heck, I even found a bluegrass guitar that I’m pretty sure I can’t afford. Heck, folks were even dancing in the hotel entrance to bluegrass music.
And I heard one of my co-writers Caroline Owens and her outstanding band just tear it up. So good. Pretty sure this one is going to have a long and prosperous career. Caroline has just recorded one of my songs that will be out in a few months on an album she’s working on right now.
Fun time hearing banjos, fiddles, mandolins, guitars and
more up and down the hallways. Some of the instruments are EXPENSIVE!
SUNDAY
I was planted on the couch watching the AFC and NFC Championship games. The Eagles game was over by the 3rd quarter, but the Bills and Chiefs once again kept you on the edge of the couch until once again the Chiefs managed burst Buffalo’s Super Bowl dreams. So Eagles and Chiefs in New Orleans for the Lombardi trophy. Put me in the camp that believes that until somebody beats the Chiefs in a big game…I’m betting Mahomes-Andy Reid and KC.
BLUEBIRD TOMORROW
My friend Brent Burns and some of his family will invade town tomorrow as Brent is going to play at the world famous Bluebird Café tomorrow night…sold out show. Every songwriter wants to play the Bluebird at least once in their life. This will be Brent’s very first time…so I’m thrilled for my friend.
Then Thursday morning he’s going to be a guest on the syndicated “Big D and Bubba” radio show produced by my old Program Director and producer at WSM Jonathan Shaffer. So I’ll tag along and hang in studio with him. This is a clip of Brent’s last time on the show when he sang “Dead People’s Clothes”.
SONG OF THE DAY
Happy to share this duet that I wrote with Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts “More Country Than You”. The two of them bicker back and forth over who’s more country than the other. Is it the American Idol kid from Kentucky (Alex) or the “Voice” girl from Tennessee (Emily Ann)? Listen and you can decide. The song was released on Friday and it’s out everywhere right now. AND…Alex shared with me that between the video teases and the song itself that there have been over 12 million views of it online…a pretty healthy number.
PEOPLE
And check out this cool ARTICLE from People talking about the writing of the song and the non-married relationship between Alex and Emily. Thank you People for drawing some attention to our fun song.
HEALTH NOTES
Experts say 210 million are addicted to social media.
Taxi and ambulance drivers have lower death rates from Alzheimer’s than hundreds of other professions, pointing to a potential link between memory intensive jobs and dementia risk, a new study has found.
Dogs are now being trained to sniff out cancerous tumors. That’s happening in the UK right now.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep…orange is not a good color.
CHEAP CITIES
GoBAnking says the three cheapest cities to live in are
3. Memphis
2. Cleveland
1. Toledo
WHO KNEW
A study claims that if you have rhythm can play drums that you are highly intelligent. Make me wish I would have learned to play drums in the High School Band instead of the danged French Horn. Nobody ever says, “Man that French horn player is as an Einstein”. (Sigh)
SKYLINE CHILI
It’s the thing in Ohio…especially in Cincinnati where I spent so many years. If you know you know. In fact it’s such a thing that someone in Ohio posted this is how they measure snowfall.
Well now the famous Cincinnati ice cream maker Grater’s has rolled out this.
I’m going to have to try that next time I’m in the Buckeye state. But I do wonder if they put cheese on the ice cream as well as the three-way that I always order?
OUR AIRPORT
Apparently a politician or three here in Tennessee are proposing that they change the name of our airport here in Nashville to “Trump International.” Meanwhile, another one says why don’t we name it “Dolly Parton International” since she’s a state icon…plus…we can then say, “we’re departin’ from Parton”.
Sometimes politicians have way too much time on their hands.
WHO KNEW?
More than 90% of all Ferraris ever made…and they made the first sports car back in 1947…90% of them are still running. Over 300,000 have been made.
And I can’t afford any of them…still!
We actually have a dealership in Nashville close to our airport and near where I live…so at least I can go press my face up against the window and stare them.
MARK TWAIN SAID IT
“Go to heaven for the climate. Hell for the company.”
ROBOT BANDIT
In California some dude break into a restaurant and tries to steal a robot server like the one that brought me and my wife a meal when we were with our daughter and son in law in Frankfurt, Germany for dinner once.
A server at the California store actually stopped the robot theft after the thief struggled trying to toss the robot in the back of his getaway car. The robot has to be programmed to work…and would have no value on the open market. Proof that thieves are not always the brightest bulb.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Homicide Victims Rarely Talk to Police. (Ya think?)
TODAY
I’m writing with Thomm Jutz and Caroline Owens today. Though I’ve written with separately on multiple occasions…this will be our first time writing as a trio. Thomm worked with the late great Nancy Griffith for years and Caroline’s vocal reminded me of Nancy a bit…so it should be a good combination . Below is a picture of Thomm on stage with Nancy.
Have a great Monday!
