Back Home...Carolina Memories...Bluebird Shows

BILL BLOG

Tuesday January 21, 2025

Tuesday morning and I’m back home in Nashville where it do be cold. 7 degrees as I’m starting the Blog this morning with a high of just 24.

Meanwhile down in my favorite vacation place…Gulf Shores, Alabama could see snow…New Orleans as well. Yikes. "Let to cold times roll!"

YESTERDAY

I got back home around noon time on a Southwest non-stop from Myrtle Beach to Nashville with my friends Linda Davis and Lang Scott.  A little delay but not bad. A couple of us got a Chik fil A fuel up fix at the Myrtle Beach Airport.

Nothing like ordering a chicken sandwich with a guitar strapped on your back.

And I’ve got to say, I’ve never seen these kinds of chairs in an airport terminal. Kind of cool…telling you in a way that you’re at the beach.

And the airport also has this!

Hey...dog's gotta go too y'all.

We certainly enjoyed every bit of the Carolina run. From the ocean view at the Outer Banks…

To the great show Saturday night in Kill Devils Hill, NC

To the show Sunday night with our friends Darin and Brooke Aldridge

That concluded with a group sing along on the old gospel song “I’ll Fly Away”.

And…getting to see my sister Vickie was a really nice bonus.

Thanks to all who made these two shows so much fun. We can’t wait to come back to the Carolina's again.

THE BLUEBIRD CAFÉ

Tickets go on sale this morning at 8 AM Central for my Bluebird Café show on January 28 with Brent Burns, Victoria Venier and Steve Dean. Tickets are hard to get…and they sell out every show very quickly when they put the tickets up for sale. The Bluebird is still considered to be the best venue to a see a songwriter show. Up close, personal and intimate. Looking very forward to playing there again. Good luck getting tickets!

MORE BLUEBIRD

And…if you strike out getting tickets for the January 28 show, remember I’ll be back at the Bluebird on Thursday February 1 with Barry and Will Hutchens and Laura Leigh Jones. Tickets for that show go on sale a week in advance as well. More details on that show at this LINK.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is “Front Porch Philosophy” from my friend Jerry Salley that he released as a single that did very well in the bluegrass world. I remember we were writing on an idea that was not really going anywhere when we got to talking about Grandpa’s and Dad’s sitting out on a front porch smoking a pipe with the hound-dog at their feet sharing their opinion about whatever. And I said, “yea…sort of like front porch philosophy”. Jerry’s eyes lit up…we dropped the idea we were working on…and wrote this song instead. I’m glad we did.

HEALTH NOTES

Experts are saying that tea bags can release billions of microplastic particles.

A study suggests that a regular diet of oatmeal could lead to a longer life.

Some doctors are saying that saunas are great for your heart.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I left a large tip myself.

INNAUGURATION DAY

I did not see any of it as I was traveling for a good part of the day. Two highlights seem to be how Carrie Underwood showed off her professional skills dealing with sound equipment problems and then singing “America The Beautiful” in acapella form. That girl doesn’t need a band.

And then Kid Rock hits on an Irish reporter telling her “you sound sexy” before asking her out.

Even Presidential inaugurations have “train wreck” moments.

O H!

I did get to watch Ohio State claim the college football championship beating Notre Dame last night in Atlanta. That Michigan loss may not sting nearly as much now for the Buckeye nation. Congrats to the Buckeyes.

HELLO DOLLY

Ya gotta love Dolly Parton. Quick and funny on her feet and here’s one more example of that. In a recent interview Dolly confessed that she hides her mic pack underneath her wigs. She says, “my clothes are so tight my mic pack don’t fit nowhere.” And now we know.

She also once said, “If I see something sagging, bagging or dragging I’ll get it nipped, tucked or sucked.”

VALENTINE DAY

It’s creeping up. What to get for that person you love so much. I’m trying to do better this year by my wife. I’m down to these two choices for her this year. Which of these do you think she’ll love the most?

This Burrito Blanket?

Or this Shrimp Neck Pillow?

She'll love either one...right?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Some real canine talent there now. Must be Johnny Bench's dog.

TODAY

I’ll be catching up and getting some things back in order after being gone the past several days. Good to go…good to get back home always.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...
