Two Writes One Day...Weird Gifts...Toast!

BILL BLOG

Wednesday December 4, 2024

Middle of the week Wednesday has arrived. A little warmer here today with sunshine and a high of 55. We’ll take it after the past couple of really cold days.

YESTERDAY

I sat down with Alex Miller the former American Idol star and my longtime friend and hit writer Wil Nance yesterday out at Wil’s writing cabin and wrote a very fun swing tune with the two of them.

Both love great swings songs as do I so I brought an idea that fit into that kind of groove and it didn’t take us all that long to write it. George Strait cut a song that Wil helped write with George and his son Bubba Strait titled “It Takes All Kinds” that I love a lot…so this new song falls into that kind of swing thing. It was really fun to write.

YESTERDAY EVENING

Then last evening I wrote a second song…this one online with Brooke Aldridge of the duo Darin and Brooke Aldridge who was home in North Carolina. And we wrote a great idea Brooke had about chasing fireflies. That too turned out great. And before my head hit the pillow last night the two of them sent me a little recording they did of the new tune so that was a great way to end a two-for-Tuesday kind of day.

SONG OF THE DAY

Speaking of Darin and Brooke…here’s another song I helped the two of them write that they recorded “My Prayer”. Just a simple melody line with a great vocal from Brooke. A simple prayer to God in a song.

GOD NEVER MADE A MOUNTAIN

This week’s Bluegrass Gospel Chart came out and the Kristy Cox song “God Never Made A Mountain” that I wrote with Andrea Pearson & Josh Shilling is in the #3 spot. And it’s already spent 25 weeks on the chart! Some good news there. Congrats to Kristy and my co-writers.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

See! There’s a church for everybody.

HEALTH NOTES

A 105 year old woman credits eating a clove of garlic daily has helped her live a long life.

The Agriculture Department is warning of a parasite that eats cattle alive is creeping towards the U.S.

Experts seem to agree that salmon is the healthiest fish to eat. And the worse is sole or farmed tilapia.

BAD BOYS BAD BOYS

You gotta love great cops. A cop in Colorado took a kids bike out of the backyard and chased down a thief on it. Now that’s dedication! Salute.

DEALS

So we had Black Friday and Cyber Monday and NOW (to no surprise) we’re offered up EXTENDED Cyber-Monday deals.

So I’m thinking about ordering this chocolate nativity set.

Or maybe this?

Or…maybe this cool “Toast” night light?  What do you think?

My comedian friend Heywood Banks surely must love this Toast Nightlight as his signature funny song is titled “Toast”. And when he sings it…you can watch him play a 4-slice toaster with a pair of forks. Check THIS out.

FUNNY LIST OF IDIOTS

There are signs that you might be dating an idiot. Here’s three real life stories.

When he asked my grandmother if she’d ever had any children?

When she asked, “what kind of bird is ham”?

And…when another date asked if she had to get a divorce from her first husband before they got married?

Geez…folks need to “swipe left” a little more.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

People Are Demanding Answers After Man Is Knocked Out By UFO In Shocking Video. (Word is that Jake Paul has challenged the UFO to a Netflix fight…stay tuned.)

TODAY
I’m writing with one of my “Hits & Grins” partners Victoria Venier at my publishing company today. Been awhile since the two of us have sat down to write partly because she’s been so busy. She’s produced a Christmas Musical that’s now running at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia. And she’s rehearsing a show called “Here Come The Judds…A Tribute Show” where she plays the part of Wynonna that will be touring the country some next year.

So I’m looking forward to writing again today.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...
