Monday morning and it’s Christmas Eve Eve. No snow in Nashville for the holidays. A high of 54 here today.
THE WEEKEND
Pretty quiet around the Whyte House. Got my Christmas gift wrapping done. Thank God for duct tape.
Yep. It's pretty easy to spot the packages I wrapped underneath the tree.
And I watched a lot of football. The College Football playoffs turned out to be a boring dud with every game won easily by the favorites…the better team. Not one close game which had me switching off the games pretty quickly.
SONG OF THE DAY
I’m selecting “Old Gray Stone” which was recorded by a young bluegrass band named Pythagoras…after the mathematician. This song was written with Tim Stafford who actually had these kids in his bluegrass class over at ETSU near Knoxville.
The song contemplates what might be written on our headstones….with so little space to write on. Hit the link to check it out.
AND WITH THAT IN MIND
We lost a couple of notable folks over the weekend. Ricky Henderson who was one of the greatest baseball players of all time. A base stealing machine. I got to watch him play in the 90 World Series against my Reds in 90…a series that the Reds swept in 4 over the A’s where Ricky was playing at the time. It was hard to take your eyes off him at the plate and on base.
FUNNY MAN
And I’m saddened that Terry Ree of “Williams & Ree” passed this weekend. Many of you may not be familiar with their act…so check out this clip from one of their shows where they were billed as “The Indian and the White Guy”. The White guy being Bruce Williams who went to college with Terry and then they had a 50 year career together. One of a few acts who could always make me laugh out loud…hard.
Their rapid fire timing was something to behold…and appreciated. Here’s one more really funny CLIP when they used to be on the TNN network with actress Florence Henderson. They had a cooking-baking section on the show that was always my favorite part of those shows.
I had the pleasure of getting to know him over the past few years just a bit. Kind…and just as funny when he wasn’t working. RIP.
HEALTH NOTES
The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first prescription medicine for obstructive sleep apnea…the weight loss drug Zepbound.
A new review says that not getting enough Magnesium can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The U.S. is reportedly seeing a rise in life expectancy after the pandemic decline.
HERE’S YOUR TOWEL
BAD CHRISTMAS
The publication Cheapism has just listed their Top 10 list of worst Christmas gifts to give this year.
Alcohol
Plants
Beauty Products
Books
Clothes
Household Décor
Humorous Gifts
Used Items
Homemade Gifts
Personalize Gifts
All made the worst gift list. Although if you get a gift you REALLY hate…maybe the alcohol gift is not so bad after all?
THEM AND US
That Michael Buffer guy who climbs into fight rings and yells, “Let’s get ready to ruuuuuumble!” That guy? He makes 25 to $100,000 every time he does that. Pretty good paycheck for 5 words.
My wife now wants to be compensated every time she yells "Dinner is ready!!".
CHRISTMAS OWL
How about this guy who flew into a home in Virginia and found the perfect place to roost for a while until the owners shooed him back out?
Perfect tree topper.
AGE
How did 106 year old Florence Hackman celebrate her 106th birthday? She took a shot of Fireball whiskey. She claims she’s lived a long time because of her positive attitude. And an occasional shot of Fireball I suppose.
NISSAN-HONDA
Those two are in talks to merge. That would make them the 3rd largest automaker. We have a large Nissan plant here in middle Tennessee. That could mean even more jobs…and more people moving in to Nashville. Geez. Growth is something we don’t have a problem with here. But we do have a problem with TRAFFIC.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Shoppers Brawl, Mom Robbed of $3,000 During Spat Over Parking Spot at a Crowded Mall. (Aww…tis the season.)
TODAY
This morning at 9:15 central I’ll be on 650 AM WSM Radio with my friend Lauren Mascitti to visit with Coffee Country and Cody.
The two of us will sing a couple of tunes and we will be promoting our two shows we have at Main and Monroe in Lexington, Tennessee this Friday at 4 and 6:30 pm. And you can listen in “live” at wsmonline.com
Have a great Monday!
