Two-Song Day...Trailer Park Sexy...Paddling Pumpkins

BILL BLOG

Tuesday October 29, 2024

Tuesday has rolled in and we’re looking for sunshine and a high of 81 in Nashville today. Summer lingering doesn’t bother me a bit.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a couple of songs with Alex Miller yesterday the former tall country kid from Kentucky who told me he’s now living in Nashville permanently which means I’ll be seeing more of him in the future. Alex and his band have been touring the country and just got back from playing Washington State and Oregon…his first time in that beautiful part of the country.

As often happens when the two of us sit down, he brought an idea and so did I so we wrote 2 new songs yesterday that went on the pile of songs we’ve co-written now the past few years. And he told me the song the two of us wrote with “The Voice” winner Emily Ann Roberts titled “More Country Than You” will be released on Billy Jam Records this January to be billed as Alex Miller featuring Emily Ann Roberts. Can’t wait to be able to share their very fun duet together.

Good day at the office.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I was talking about Alex…this is his very first single release ever “Don’t Let The Barn Door Hit Ya” that I wrote with Paul Bogart and Dan Wilson. The song AND the video is really fun and catches a lot of Alex’s personality in it. That’s Miss Kentucky in the video with Alex…and he didn’t complain about that one bit I’m told. And it’s also his family that’s featured in the video including his late Grandfather who passed away last year…that’s him coming out of the outhouse in the one scene.

TRAILER PARK SEXY FANS

That song that Brent Burns and I wrote and the both of us recorded has a small legion of “Trailer Park Sexy” fans. Last week during the big Parrot Head gathering in Gulf Shores Lucy Buffett (Jimmy's sister)showed up wearing it while Brent was playing at her place “Lulu’s”.

And then a TRIO showed up.

So thank you to all the Trailer Park Sexy fans out there! You’re proof that “modular” is sexy.

NEW SONG TEASE

And this is my Aussie friend Katrina Burgoyne who is now a permanent resident here with her husband Steve and their new little girl. They bought six acres out in the country and they are experiencing all the “ups” and “downs” of living that kind of American dream. And she wanted to write about that in a fun way and so we did. This little VIDEO will give you a taste of what we wrote with a full version to come down the road a bit. Very fun stuff. Check it out.

HEALTH NOTES

A study is claiming that people with type 2 diabetes who eat low-carb may be able to discontinue medication.

An Iowa resident has died of a suspected West African virus that can cause permanent hearing loss. The virus originates and can be found in rats in that region of the world.

A daily dose of dried fruit may help reduce type 2 diabetes risk according to a new study.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

If you’re one of those who hate people ringing your door bell trying to sell you something…

Might want to hang one of those bad boys outside your door.

WORLD SERIES

I did watch most of game 3 of the World Series last night. Returning home to the Bronx didn’t help the Yankees one bit as they went down 3-0 to the Dodgers. They just have not showed up and it’s so bad that some Yankee fans are making a journey to the grave of Babe Ruth bringing offerings in hopes of rattling the Yankee spirits from the past.

Not sure they shouldn't spend more time trying to wake up the Yankees bats instead.

BABIES AIN’T CHEAP

Statistics reveal that infant care now costs at least 10% of a family’s income in nearly every state. In New Mexico it’s 20.5%. So how much money would one have to make to make it worthwhile to work…pay the babysitter…and still have some left over to put in the bank?  I’m thinking quite a bit.

HAPPY ROCK N ROLL

According to some kind of scientific formula the happiest classic-rock song of all time is “Good Vibrations” by the Beach Boys.

Other songs that made that list include “Y.M.C.A” by the Village People, “Night Fever” by the Bee Gees, and “Dancing Queen” by Abba.

I looked, but my friend Randy Brooks song “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” did not make the list…an oversight for sure.

HALLOWEEN

Nothing says Halloween like padding in a pumpkin on the open water.

In Belgium they actually have a pumpkin paddling race every year.

Which means of course that one day SOMEONE woke up and thought…”you know what would be a GREAT idea?”

SURVEY SAYS

That half of all Americans want the internet to forget them…but don’t know how. Yep…pretty much what goes up in the cloud stays in the cloud y’all.

I wrote a song with Jenny Tolman and her husband Dave Brainard titled “The World’s A Small Town” that covers that thought…in fact that line about what goes up in the cloud in is in this SONG that Jenny recorded.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Homeless Couple Found Living In Walmart Attic With Hot Plate,, Meth Lab, And 42 Inch LED TV. (Just living the good life.)

TODAY

For the first time I’m writing with Sean McNamara and my friend Alex Miller will be joining us so it should be an interesting co-write. Sean owns McNamara’s Irish Pub in Nashville…great Irish food and Guinness!  But he’s also a good writer and musician and he and his band play great Irish music at his place several nights a week. And I love Irish music. So maybe we’ll write something “Irish” today…we’ll see.

Have a great Tuesday!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

Beach Rhymes...Football Kickoff...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Thursday September 5, 2024   Thursday arises and I have a day of traveling to Marion, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog. Back up to 90 with sun today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Darrell Clanton yesterday for the first time. Darrell lives in Lakeland, Florida with his wife and back in the day he was an artist here in Nashville and had a couple of country songs on the charts, and had several folks record his songs.     These days Darrell and his band “Bad Habit” are very active in the Trop Rock genre playing a lot of beach music and beach shows. A couple of years ago Darrell and I played the Jim Parker Songwriter Show in Huntsville, Alabama along with my buddy Brent Burns . And then Darrell and I just played it again a few months ago. Then yesterday I really got to know him and we did write a beach song for him.   We’ll be writing more for sure in the future. And there’s a chance that sometime next year that we’ll do a cruise toget

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f
