Wednesday October 16, 2024
Wednesday morning bringing us a Hump Day. It’s just 39 degrees here at the moment with a high of 60 expected in Nashville today. And some of those weather folks are talking about frost in the evenings.
So here’s the question.
Why is there always frost on the pumpkin but never frost on the cumquats?
No clue.
YESTERDAY
Well, the shorts were put up on the top shelf and down came the sweat pants and hoodies. I’m a summer guy myself…and though I like the Fall colors I’ll take summer time…every time. The space heater got turned on for the first time for crying out loud. Sigh.
How many days til summer?
THE TROP ROCK AWARDS SHOW
I got word yesterday that I will be presenting the award for Trop Rock Radio Station of the Year as well as the award for the Best Duo-Trio at the Trop Rock Awards Show Wednesday night at 8 pm at the big Hangout Stage in Gulf Shores at the big Parrot Head gathering down there. And I’ll be the first presenter of the evening. No pressure.
I appreciate the folks at the TRMA asking me to be part of their big show. And good luck to everyone nominated.
LULU’S
And I also added another show for the Meeting of Minds Festival in Gulf Shores that the Trop Rock Awards Show is part of. Friday October 25 I’ll be at Lulu’s for a 1:30 pm show that my friend Brent Burns is hosting. For about 4 days straight in a row Brent will be hosting the best of the folks who make their living playing beach aka Trop Rock Music. So I’m happy to be part of that gathering of talent this year again.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’ve selected the song “All I Need Is You” recorded by the husband-wife team of Adam & Amy Pope that was written by the three of us.
Adam brought that title in the day we wrote it and it started as a commercial “love” song. But as we started developing it a bit…it turned toward more of a gospel thought with a cool funky music groove to it. As in “Lord, All I Need Is You”.
Our mutual friend Darin Aldridge of Darin and Brooke Aldridge then did a terrific job of producing the song and bringing it to life.
ON THE CHART
The Bluegrass Gospel Top 12 chart just came out and it was very cool seeing that the song “God Never Made A Mountain” from Kristy Cox that I wrote with Josh Shilling and Andrea Pearson has climbed into the #7 slot. AND…the brand new single “Country Faith” from Kristen Leigh Bearfield featuring Karen Peck (who’s a member of the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame) is on this chart its first week out. Written with Kristen and Tim McGraw’s longtime guitar player Bob Minner. Thank you David Pugh for loving these songs and playing them on your show so much.
HEALTH NOTES
Walgreens is going to close 1,200 stores nationwide struggling to keep up with online competitors.
Some users claim that their Apple Watch Vitals app predicts, colds, flu, and COVID days before they hit.
The healthiest Halloween candy is Peanut M&M’s according to a health expert.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep…I’d say that’s fairly accurate.
AI HAIRCUT
Now you can use an AI powered ChatGPT to help give you the perfect haircut to suit your face. (I’ve got a face for radio…so good luck with that AI)
You snap a selfie. Log into the chat and upload the picture, answer some questions then it shows you what your perfect haircut would look like.
I don’t see me using it…but if my hair looked like this? Maybe some AI would not be such a bad idea.
TOURISTS
So many folks want to see the beautiful Trevi Fountain in Rome. For good reason. This is the picture my wife and I took when we were there. Beautiful. AND there’s a great gelato shop right next to it!
But they are thinking about charging tourists a fee now because of the large crowds. OR…maybe they could just take the enormous amounts of coins thrown into the fountain to offset that…maybe.
STANLEY CUPS…AGAIN
Word is that there is some pushing and shoving in Target stores as folks are trying to get their hands on a limited edition “Wicked” Stanley Tumblrs…promoting the movie.
Last year they were fighting over just regular Stanley’s. And my guess is…those that got one of those used it as a weapon trying to fight off others trying to get the “Wicked” version of it. Maybe?
SOME FOLKS ARE REALLY INTO HALLOWEEN
Meanwhile we’re talking about putting up a Christmas tree BEFORE Halloween. So there’s that.
WHAT MADE THEM APPLY THESE RULES
At a college alma mater there’s a printed rule, “No charcoal grilling in the dorm rooms”. What do you think led to that rule?
Or how about the rule at a business establishment, “Employees Must Wear Appropriate Undergarments”?
Or…what led to warning tags on Halloween costumes, “The cape does not give the wearer the ability to fly.”?
Somebody somewhere must have jumped off the garage with a Superman Cape on. Right after they said, “watch this”!
MOST EXPENSIVE PLACE ON EARTH
Disney is getting ready to offer something called a “Lightning Pass” which will allow its theme park visitors to get to the front of the lines for its rides and attractions. How much?
For the Magic Kingdom it will set you back $329-$449 plus tax.
Back in the day I did my radio shows many times from Disney World or Universal Studios. When I did, they gave us a tour guide who gave us a tour of the parks and took us through back doors to get right on any ride or into any attraction. It was pretty amazing.
But…would I pay 400 or more bucks for that experience? Can’t imagine doing that. Go in the off season when the lines are down.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Man Dates Woman For 12 Years, Finally Proposes, and Gets Rejected. Uh huh.
I wrote a funny song with my Aussie friend Katrina Burgoyne that kind of covers that in “Wife Trial”. Her now husband was dragging his feet according to her so we wrote this fun tune and a week later he proposed. He already had a ring before we wrote it but she didn’t know. And now that have a little girl and a family! Click on the link and watch and hear her sing the song.
TODAY
I’m writing for the first time with young Carson Peters who’s the lead
singer-fiddle player in the group Carson Peters and Iron Mountain along with
our mutual friend Ethan Phillips. He’s a fiddle playing phenom and was on the
Jay Leno show sawing on his fiddle when he was only 8 years old.
He’s going to be a force to reckon with in the bluegrass world…already is…and I’m looking very forward to working with him and Ethan for the first time this morning. Here’s an EXAMPLE of Carson and his great band.
Have a great Wednesday.
