It Got Dark...Lederhosen...The Chair

BILL BLOG

Tuesday April 9, 2024

Tuesday morning…ready to catch a flight to Germany. 61 and rain today in Nashville. It will be a 67 high with rain where we’re going in Germany today.

YESTERDAY

How was the eclipse for you?  I had an eclipse nap. It was dark…didn’t see a thing. And I’m checking, but it looks like the world is still spinning and did not come to an end. We didn’t have any glasses or a welder’s helmet…so my wife and I  passed on looking up. It was actually cloudy here, so those looking up really did not see as much as they could have.

And yesterday was all about packing, checking our tickets, making sure everything is ready to go for the long flight that starts this morning from here to Frankfort, Germany where we’ll meet out daughter Heather and Casey and then spend some time with them seeing the sights in both Germany and Austria. And yes, I packed my lederhosen.

FRIDAY

I did get news that my young friend Alex Miller’s new EP will be released this Friday on Billy Jam records and will include the song “Ain’t Ever Saying Never” that the two of us wrote with Josh Shilling. The album is dedicated to Alex’s late grandfather whom he was very close to. So I’m honored to have a song on the project that means so much to Alex. By Friday I should be able to share our song…so stay tuned for that.

HEALTH NOTES

A study suggests marijuana consumers have significantly decreased odds of cognitive decline.

Meanwhile, scientists are warning that some over the counter reflux medications are linked to dementia.

The hand sanitizer, aloe gel has been recalled over warnings that it could cause comas or blindness. Wow.

THAT ECLIPSE THING

Uh…no. I did not give this guy a dollar.

They are saying eye doctors could be busy today seeing folks who wonder if they hurt their eyes looking at the eclipse. I’m guessing those folks missed the note about needing to wear eclipse glasses.

THE CHAIR

Morgan Wallen, the country star is in trouble with the law again. He threw a chair off the 5th floor of Eric Church’s new bar on Lower Broadway here in Nashville a couple of nights ago. He’s out of jail on $15,000 bond right now. The chair landed next to a couple of police officers on the street below. Pretty goodreason to arrest a dude.

Some of his friends in the press are saying he was depressed about his former fiancée’ eloping with another guy.

All I know is there are a lot of creative folks using the hit song by George Strait “The Chair” to make light of the situation. If I were still on the radio I might be doing the same as I once parodied that song to cover the Bobby Knight incident when the then Indiana coach hurled a chair across the court.

GO GRANNY GO

How about the grandmother who just broke the Guinness World Record for the longest plank?  Donna Jean Wilder at age 58, grandmother of 12 held a plank for 4.5 hours. What would drive a person to hold a plank for hours is beyond me, but she became a world record holder by doing so. I got tired just looking at the picture.

GREAT MOM ADVICE…I THINK

A real Mom admitted  I couldn’t decide if I wanted bangs or not so I cut bangs for my daughter and she looks awful. Dodged a bullet there.”

CLIMATE CHANGE

The world just recorded it’s 10th consecutive months of record high temperatures. Got a feeling it’s going to be a hot summer. Buy stock in air conditioners and buckets of ice.

FUNNY TEACHER STUFF

A magazine asked teachers to send them stories about their students that made the teacher question their intelligence. This one is a gem. “One of my 16 year old students asked, while taking a multiple choice test, if it mattered what letter he chose. I just stared at him. Sometimes there are no words.

TODAY

Boarding a plane…long flight.

A reminder, for the next little while the Blog will be posted at odd times as there’s an 8 hour difference from where I’m blogging right now to where I’m going in Germany with my wife to see our daughter and son in law.

Have a great Tuesday.

No Phone...Nurses Retreat...Show Sunday

BILL BLOG Friday February 23, 2024   Friday morning…let the weekend begin. Lot of sunshine in Nashville today with a high of 61 today.   YESTERDAY It’s amazing how much “catch up” stuff there is to catch up on after you’ve been gone for 5 days. And that’s pretty much what I did…checked of some of those “gotta” do’s and “need” to do’s" off my list. I was glad to make some of those disappear especially considering the fact that I’m going to be on the road a lot this year.   NO PHONE And my catching up slowed down a bit for several hours as we lost our cell phone service like a lot of folks did yesterday…especially those of us who are on an AT&T plan. One AT&T posted this picture showing what his life had become with no cell phone for over 5 hours.   AT&T says it was not a cyber-attack. It was on them apparently and they’re blaming it on a software update that crashed the system. And here I thought an update made things better.   W

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so
