BILL BLOG

Wednesday February 28, 2024

Wednesday morning…last Hump Day of February and we’re getting some more heavy rain and thunder today. A parts of Tennessee will be under a tornado watch as well. Fun stuff.

It’s thundering big time and LOUD heavy rain is falling right now as I’m beginning this morning’s Blog.

YESTERDAY

I wrote for the first time with Travis List yesterday…from Australia. He and his wife Kristy Cox who’s a great bluegrass artist, have been here for a long while. When Travis first came to town he was playing the California circuit and eventually made his way to Nashville. He and Kristy knew each other in Australia but they did not REALLY meet until many years later here in America and THEN wound up getting married. Pretty cool story.

So we sat down and wrote a new song from a great title Travis brought into the room and got to know each other better. He’s been busy with “life” stuff and real work here in the states as he and Kristy have a couple of kids that need providing for. I was happy help him get back into that creative  groove yesterday for the first time in a long while.

CANCELLED

The show I had on the calendar in Orange Beach with my friend Brent Burns on March 13 has been moved from Ginny Lane’s at the Wharf to the venue Mile Marker 158 at the Wharf. Show time will be 6 pm that evening.

Looking forward to playing alongside Brent again and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of Gulf Shores-Orange Beach friends who have been coming to see me and Brent for a lot of years now when we hook up down on the Gulf Coast to cut up and play music.

And then Friday night March 15 I’ll drive over to Mobile, Alabama to play a comedy show with my comedian friend Juanita Smith at the People’s Room there in Mobile. A great, small, intimate listening room.

HEALTH NOTES

A neuroscientist says you can cure your hiccups by inhaling deeply through your nose 3 times filling your lungs without exhaling. After you inhale for the 3rd time you then hold your breath for 15-20 seconds and then exhale through your mouth.

Chiropractic folks say sleeping on your stomach is bad for your back…and neck. But…they thank you stomach sleepers for the extra business.

Experts say that long COVID impacts 10% of pregnant women and urges women to take precautions.

CHURCH BULLETINS

I attended a small church growing up in Missouri. Church bulletins were a thing…and still are in a lot of churches. Sometimes the folks who wrote the church bulletins had a sense of humor. Check these bulletin notes out.

Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

Potluck supper at 5 pm-prayer and medication to follow.

And my favorite…

The Associate Minister unveiled the church’s new campaign slogan last Sunday: I Upped My Pledge-Up Yours.

BASEBALL

Good to see the “boys of summer” playing Spring Training baseball. I’ll be going to several of our minor league ball games this year but one can’t help but notice how EXPENSIVE the concession stands are. At a Florida COLLEGE baseball park they’re charging $19 for a cheeseburger, $16 for one slice of pizza and $10 for a plain ole’ grilled cheese sandwich. A beer at a ballpark can set you back 12-15 bucks.

And at our ballpark they won’t take cash. Strictly credit cards. I need to get hooked on watching pickleball games. Gotta be cheaper.

SPEAKING OF CHEAPER

A Mom passed along some money saving tips online. One of those is to have your groceries delivered. She claims it keeps you from making impulse buys in the store. Who’s not guilty of doing that?

MEANWHILE

Disney has just raised the price of admission for their parks…again…in 2025. In the off season a single day pass can cost you $119. In season you might have to pay $189 for a one day pass into the Magic Kingdom. Wow. "It's A Small World come with a BIG price.

I see more folks blowing up inflatable pools in their backyard for entertainment next summer.

FORE!

You’ve got to keep your eyes peeled if you play golf in Florida. Yesterday in Ave Maria, Florida an alligator made a run at a couple in their golf cart. A woman caught the incident on video.

Those that play a lot of golf in either Arizona or Florida know not to go looking for lost golf balls. You might get a gator or snake surprise.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Model Gets Boobs So Big That She Can No Longer Clap Her Hands Together. (And I don’t think I want to know what she does clap together when she feels the need to applaud.

TODAY

I’ve got an off day that I’ll take full advantage of. I’ve got a long list of catch up items on my “honey-do” list.

Have a great Wednesday!

No Phone...Nurses Retreat...Show Sunday

BILL BLOG Friday February 23, 2024   Friday morning…let the weekend begin. Lot of sunshine in Nashville today with a high of 61 today.   YESTERDAY It’s amazing how much “catch up” stuff there is to catch up on after you’ve been gone for 5 days. And that’s pretty much what I did…checked of some of those “gotta” do’s and “need” to do’s" off my list. I was glad to make some of those disappear especially considering the fact that I’m going to be on the road a lot this year.   NO PHONE And my catching up slowed down a bit for several hours as we lost our cell phone service like a lot of folks did yesterday…especially those of us who are on an AT&T plan. One AT&T posted this picture showing what his life had become with no cell phone for over 5 hours.   AT&T says it was not a cyber-attack. It was on them apparently and they’re blaming it on a software update that crashed the system. And here I thought an update made things better.   W

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so
