Beachy Christmas Song...Righteous...Wienermobile

BILL BLOG Friday, July 31, 2026   It’s Friday, AND the end of July is here. Hard to believe. 89-degree high for the last day of July here in Music City.   YESTERDAY My Missouri friends Becky Denton and her husband Will were in town and requested a writing session.    Becky has dipped her toes a little bit into the Trop Rock world and is thinking of recording a few “beachy” Christmas songs, and brought a great title with her. So it was Christmas in the writing room yesterday.   Will and Becky live up in Paris, Missouri, but they do get to Nashville now and then, and I’m glad they reached out for a get-together yesterday.   A Christmas song in July. Go figure!   PLAY BALL! Last night I got out to the ballpark to catch a Nashville Sounds baseball game. The temperature dropped just enough to make it comfortable to sit in the stands. Hard to beat an evening watching the boys of summer do their thing.     The good gu...

A Creative Day..."Jimothy"...For Your Car

BILL BLOG Thursday, July 30, 2026   And now it’s Thursday morning. Up to 90 degrees today in Music City.   YESTERDAY I rhymed again with a couple of my favorites, Dave Brainard & Jenny Tolman at their place. It had been a bit.      Before we tore into a fun idea, a duet idea that I had brought, I got to hear the song I helped them write dedicated to Jenny’s mom Kathy . She told me her mom cried when she heard it. Mission accomplished. Jenny’s album, which includes that song, is out in just a few weeks.     She and Dave will also hold a full-band album party, invitation only, at the City Winery in Nashville about the same time the album comes out.       And they told me there will be some very private listening parties in a stretch limousine. Every songwriter on the new album, and other media folks, will be picked up, and they’ll drive us around Nashville while we listen to the new album. Pretty clever way...

Lift and Carry...Bluebird...Biscuits

BILL BLOG Wednesday, July 29, 2026   Hump Day, Wednesday, has arrived with more heat. A high of 90 in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY With my writing appointment rescheduled, my day was open. And that meant my lovely wife Kathy found something for me to do. She’s good at that. So we wound up picking up a couple of pieces of furniture to CARRY into the house.   Remind me to never let someone cancel their songwriting session with me. Plus, it was 95 or higher, and that’s without the heat index. Sigh.   I keep telling my wife I’m good with the furniture we bought back in 1912, but she won’t listen.   A husband once said, “ When we got married, I said I’d move mountains for you…I never said anything about a sofa! ”   THE BLUEBIRD A reminder that tickets for my Bluebird songwriter round next Wednesday night, August 5, with Mo Pitney , Wil Nance , and Brady Seals go on sale at 9 AM this morning Central Time. Be quick on the phone as all...

Train Songs... 10-Year Anniversary Album...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Tuesday, July 28, 2026   A warm Tuesday has arrived. The heat is going to peak today at 95 before temperatures go back into the 80’s in Nashville.   YESTERDAY I wrote a new song with Bill DiLuigi at my publishing company yesterday morning, from an idea he brought. Because I write for a company that has a bluegrass record label, oftentimes my co-writers will come in the building with their own bluegrass idea.     Bill’s song had a reference to rails and trains, and a girl leaving the guy. Yep, sounded like a bluegrass idea to me, and that’s what Mr. DiLuigi and I wrote.   Now all we have to do is find some bluegrass artist to record it. Simple!   SONG OF THE DAY Speaking of trains and bluegrass songs. I’ve written a few with that kind of theme. Most notably this song, “ Train ,” that was recorded by bluegrass artist Kristy Cox . But before that, one of my co-writers recorded a great version of it on her album of that song...
