A Week Of Writing...Scenes From Italy...Pensacola This Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 23, 2025   Friday morning with Memorial Day weekend ahead. Sunny with a high of 75 here in Nashville today. Great way to start the holiday weekend.   YESTERDAY For the third day in a row, I wrote with Billy Blue recording artist Caroline Owens . And for this writing session, my longtime friend Steve Dean joined us.   I had an idea that I had started that the two of them liked, and we wrote that into a song. Both Caroline and Steve have great musical ears, and they can both take a song and make it better with just a simple change or two musically. And that’s exactly what happened. It was great fun hearing the song come together. I’ve got today off to get ready for a trip tomorrow morning (more on that later), but it was a very productive week of songwriting at the publishing company this week.   ITALY In the middle of my session yesterday, my daughter Heather and son-in-law called from Italy on their 7 th an...

New Song...Studio Time...Happy Anniversary

BILL BLOG Thursday May 22, 2025   And now it’s Thursday morning, as another week is just flying by. We have a postcard kind of day on tap in Nashville with sunshine and a high of 79. After weeks of storms…we’ll take it!   YESTERDAY In the words of one of my co-writers yesterday, Andrea Pearson , “we wrote something vibey”. And indeed, I think we did, along with Caroline Owens, who joined the two of us at my publishing company. Andrea brought yesterday’s idea, and both she and Caroline play guitar well, so that added something special to the new song.   It was the first time for this trio, although I’ve written with both of them separately multiple times. There was great fun and chemistry in the room yesterday morning.  STUDIO TIME I left our writing session just a little early because I had to be in the studio for the recording of a song I wrote with Wil Nance and Irene Kelley .   We recorded yesterday in the basement ...

Good Music News...Norm!...Wiener Racing

BILL BLOG Wednesday May 21, 2025  Wednesday morning in Nashville. I’ll bet it’s Wednesday wherever you are today as well. Just a wild guess.   We had another one of those “weather” days yesterday. Tornado watches and warnings, severe thunderstorms, limbs down, flooding, heavy rain, school closings…you name it. I can’t remember having a stretch of storms like we’ve had. It’s nice to see the forecast calling for a high of 81 today with sunshine. Normal returns…at least for today.   YESTERDAY I sat and rhymed with a couple of talented folks, Lauren Mascitti and Caroline Owens . I had forgotten that the last time this trio had gotten together that we had started a new song from an idea Lauren had. So, we pulled that back up and finished it yesterday. One of those “he done me wrong” songs. FYI, there’s a LOT of those kinds of songs in country music.   It was a clever idea from Lauren, and I’m glad the girls invited me to write it with them...

Beer Song...New Show...Tush Push

BILL BLOG Tuesday May 20, 2025   Tuesday morning coming at ya. A high of 85 is predicted for Nashville today with a little more rain in the forecast. I’m pretty sure we’ve hit our quota for precipitation this year.   YESTERDAY I wrote with my young, talented Aussie friend yesterday, Angus Gill. Always fun, as he has a keen sense of humor. Yesterday he brought a very fun idea to the writing table that we wrote. The song deals with ALL of those many Craft Beers that one can choose from these days when they walk into their bar. Finding a Miller, or Bud, or Pabst can be a challenge in those places. And that’s the thought we chased together at my publishing company.    Angus shared they he’s recording an album that’s being produced out in Los Angeles, right now. He’s spent a little time out there on the West Coast recently doing this.   Angus is also having some fun doing TikTok videos of an “Australian Trying American Food”. I jumped ...

Stormy Weekend...Idol Winner...A Million Streams

BILL BLOG Monday May 19, 2025   It’s Monday morning…already. And we’re hoping that we are through a pattern of storms that have been rolling through. We were hunkered down again over the weekend, as were many in the Midwest and the South. As of now, 32 reported dead from tornadoes. My home state of Missouri got hit hard, as did folks in nearby Kentucky.   We lost power for about 10 hours. Over 20,000 in Nashville were in the same dark boat as we were.   It’s going to be hot today with a high of 85 on tap.   THE REST OF THE WEEKEND Mine started with a Friday morning writing session with friends Jenny Tolman and Dave Brainard . One of the highlights was getting to see their young 2-year-old boy “ Bear ,” who sat down and played me “Twinkle Twinkle” on his little guitar. There’s no doubt that this young man will grow up to be a musician just like his Mommy and Daddy.  Dave has a recording studio in his house where we always writ...
