Hall of Fame Show...Big Word...Go Fund Stupid Stuff

BILL BLOG

Tuesday May 30, 2025

Friday morning at the end of May is on us with the weekend ahead. It’s going to be nice in weather for us in Nashville. Today we get sunshine and a high of just 73 degrees.

YESTERDAY

I had nothing big on the calendar yesterday. So, I spent some of it working ahead, and some of it catching up on things I’ve been behind on. The “behind” list is much longer. Always.

NEW DATE

I did put a new show on the books. Saturday, September 20, my long-time friend Steve Dean and me will return to the Songwriter Series at our Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

The songwriter show is held inside the beautiful Ford Theater starting at noon. It’s a 45-minute show that includes a question-and-answer session that’s always fun. Admission is free with your museum ticket that day.

I think this might be the 5th time Steve and I have had this privilege. Thank you to the Hall for having us again.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today, the song is “Love Hate Love Again,” which was a hit for TC Cassidy, a noted female artist in Australia, a couple of years ago. Her producer is Angus Gill, another Aussie who write with quite a bit. Angus had told me she needed an up-tempo country song for a new album he was working on. At the time, Angus still lived in Australia himself, but now he lives here. I shared some of what I had written with him online one morning. He loved it, and fortunately, she loved it as well and recorded the song. Fun tune…check it out.

HEALTH NOTES

Research has discovered that there is a lower risk of cognitive decline for older folks who use tech like smartphones and computers.

Measles cases continue to spread across the US. The CDC has now confirmed 1,046 cases.

Experts claim that Vitamin D is one of the most powerful nutrients for easing asthma symptoms.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 Exactly!

SPELLING

A 13-year-old from Texas won the National Spelling Bee. His winning word was éclaircissement. Yeah, I had to look it up myself. Merriam-Webster says it’s the “clearing up of something obscure”. And here’s how it would be used in a sentence.

Poor must be the attempt to describe his emotions at that moment: he flew to raise her, and on her revival, an ECLAIRCISSEMENT, dreadful indeed to him, took place.

I don’t see myself using that word in a sentence within my lifetime. How about you?

MILITARY HUMOR

Many girls like to marry a military man because he can make beds, is in good health, and he’s already used to taking orders.

HERE COMES THE BRIDE

One bride recently decided to charge her guests at the wedding to help pay for it. Some decided not to attend. I’m not sure why she didn’t start a GoFundMe campaign.

It’s been used for a lot of odd fundraising campaigns.

One woman asked for money to pay for her trip around the world for “spiritual healing”.

One guy wanted money for beer. His version of “spiritual healing,” I’m sure.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

A Scientist Says Humans Will Go Backwards In Time Within Just 4 Years. (With that, my wife is worried about what to wear.)

TODAY

Back to the songwriting table today. This time with Lauren Mascitti and Andrea Pearson.

Besides being such a great singer, Lauren has a clever sense of humor as well. Check out her song “Childless Cat Lady”.

And here’s a great short clip of Andrea Pearson singing in the kitchen with my friend Linda Davis on Linda’s iconic duet with Reba, “Does He Love You”. And they are singing into kitchen utensils!

We’ll have fun today.

Have a great weekend!

Pensacola...Writing With A Friend....Happy Memorial Day

BILL BLOG Monday May 26, 2025  And a good Memorial Day Monday morning to you from Pensacola, Florida.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Saturday morning by jumping the car with Steve Dean and making the trip from Nashville down here to beautiful Pensacola for this event with Freedom Sings USA.   The event was held at Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola, owned by veteran Gary Hefner .   We rolled into Pensacola around 5 pm Friday, dropped our bags at the hotel, and then made our way over to the Warrior Beer Company for a little meet and greet with our veterans.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that a long-time friend of mine, Larry Hudson , from nearby Gulf Shores, would be the veteran I would be writing with. More on that in a bit.     After our dinner, our songwriter group got on stage and sang a few songs.   After we wrapped up, we headed to a favorite Irish Pub, “McGuire’s,” and closed out the ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...
