Memorial Day...Veteran's Song...Beautiful Cities

BILL BLOG

Tuesday May 27, 2025

Up early this Tuesday morning, headed back to Nashville from a great Freedom Sings USA weekend in Pensacola.

YESTERDAY

It was some kind of great Memorial Day concert at the Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola with Freedom Sings USA.

4 songwriters sang 4 songs on stage, written with veterans this past Sunday morning. And I got to sing mine, that I wrote with long-time friend Larry Hudson.

The song went over so great, and Larry got a standing ovation. And then every veteran that was there walked over and shook his hand. A goose-bump kind of moment for him…and me as well.

Thank you to Gary Hefner at Warrior Beer Company for getting behind such a special event. Word is, we may be back down here to write with other veterans come this November. Stay tuned for details.

Oh…and our accommodations were great. You can’t beat a room with a view of a rooster or two.

And you can’t beat having dinners with a view like one gets when they come down to the beautiful Gulf Coast.

Heck, sometimes a Pirate Ship will float by while you’re sipping on your crab bisque!

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is “Train,” which was recorded by bluegrass star Kristy Cox. But it was also recorded by one of my co-writers on this fun song…Daisy Mallory. Daisy’s version is more contemporary country. Check out her version right HERE.

SPEAKING OF SONGS

My longtime friend and hit writer Steve Dean, who I’m riding home to Nashville with right now, had some pretty great news roll in recently. Rodney Atkins re-recorded his smash hit “Watching You” with his son Elijah, whom Rodney was singing about in the original hit. An all-new version.

This version with his now-grown-up boy looks like it might be a hit a second time…20 years later. In just a few days, the VIDEO has racked up 137 MILLION views…and counting. I could not be happier for my friend Steve Dean and his co-writers, Brian White and Rodney. Check out the new version by hitting the link.

NEW RELEASE

And here’s a new “tease” of the song “Living The American Dream” that I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne, who will be releasing the full song in just a few days now. Really fun. Click the link to listen.

HEALTH NOTES

A team of Swedish researchers has discovered a drug traditionally meant for Type 2 diabetes shows immense promise in keeping prostate cancer at bay. The drug is pioglitazone.

Ready-to-eat chicken sold in 3 states has been labeled deadly by the USDA.

Some of those weight loss drugs are finally dropping their price. Wegovy dropped 23% in March for all cash-paying customers. That means it will cost you $499 a month right now.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

No problem.

BEAUTIFUL CITIES

The publication Wanderlust Storytellers listed the “Most Beautiful Cities One Needs To See In The U.S”. Here’s their Top 5.

5…New Orleans

4…Seattle

3…Savannah, GA

2…Charleston, SC

And their number one city is San Francisco.

Despite all the traveling I’ve done, I’ve only been to two of these cities. New Orleans and San Francisco.

AMA

At the AMA Awards last night Beyonce won the award for “Best Female Country Artist” and “Best Country Album” for “Cowboy Carter”. Uh huh. Right.

3-TENORS

What happens when a Golden Retriever listens to the 3 Tenors? Look at this VIDEO. The dog makes them the 4 Tenors now.

TODAY’S HEADLINE

A fake headline from the folks at Babylon Bee: “Wife Warns Husband Of Political Fallout If He Doesn’t Approve Her Spending Bill”.

TODAY

Road tripping home to Nashville after 3 great days down here on the Gulf Coast.

Have a great Monday!

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...
