Songwriting Trio...Upcoming Shows...Best Burger Joint

BILL BLOG

Thursday May 29, 2025

Thursday morning already. We had a small storm roll through last night. Big enough to knock our power out for an hour or so in the middle of the night. Today, a high of 80 with a little more rain on tap this morning.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Lauren Mascitti & Kristen Leigh Bearfield at the publishing company. Both girls sing great, and they both sing great harmony. I brought an idea that needed some three-part harmony that they loved, and that’s what we wrote, and then recorded before we left. Such a pleasure to hear either of them sing.

Kristen brought her mandolin, which was a perfect instrument to use for the kind of song we wrote. Think about some of those old songs from The Trio with Dolly, Emmy Lou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt.

It was so much fun singing a harmony part with the two of them. And now, we’ll try to find a home for the new tune if we can.

FREEDOM SINGS USA

I want to share one last picture from my Memorial Day weekend in Pensacola with Freedom Sings USA. This picture shows every songwriter and the veteran they wrote with. Mine was Larry Hudson who is standing right next to me with his signed poster from the event.

And our next Freedom Sings USA event is coming right up as you'll see in this next section.

SCHEDULE AHEAD

Here’s a peek at where I’ll be performing over the next couple of months.

June 17 & 18 in Heyworth, Illinois with Freedom Sings USA at the American Legion.

June 25 at the Bluebird Café in Nashville with hit songwriters Wil Nance, Brian White, and Jimmy Fortune.

July 25 in Louisiana, Missouri, for the Legends and Liberty Festival down on the riverfront. And yes, I’ll be singing “Mo Mo” The Missouri Monster once again.

July 8 at the Listening Room Café in Nashville with Alex Miller, Ben Klick, and Turk McNamara

You can find more details on these shows and others under the “Tour” tab here on my website.

 SONG OF THE DAY

Since I wrote with Lauren and Kristen yesterday, I’m going to share the song the three of us wrote that Darin & Brooke Aldridge recorded, “Where You’ll Find Me”. We’re pretty sure this will be the new single from Darin and Brooke, which should be out soon…and yes, the three of us are excited about that.

HEALTH NOTES

A study finds that smoking weed and consuming THC-laced edibles are linked to early heart disease.

Experts claim that tennis is the world’s healthiest sport, and is unmatched when it comes to promoting mental health as well.

A new study claims that losing weight in middle age could reduce chronic diseases later.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Pretty sure that’s right for a lot of us.

ALOHA CHARGE

Hawaii is going to charge a climate fee now for all tourists. They will charge a .75% increase to their accommodations tax that will raise 100 million dollars yearly to help fight climate change.

And…they should install another tax for anyone coming over and making a “lei” joke.

MEANWHILE IN TURKEY

That country is going to start fining airplane passengers who unfasten their seatbelts too early, open the overhead bins prematurely, and then stand and clog the aisles. Don’t you hate that?

And then they don’t get to the front of the line any faster. Stay seated or pay a fine if you’re in or out of Istanbul.

D I V O R C E

Did you know that there are divorce coaches?  They charge up to $300 an hour to guide couples through splitting up. True. There are also bakeries that can whip up a divorce cake if you’d like.

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE

Yesterday was National Hamburger Day and with that came the ranking for favorite burger places from the folks at Yelp. Here are their top 5 selections.

5…Islands Fine Burgers & Drinks. (Found in California and Arizona)

4…Culvers

3…Shake Shack

2…Habit Burger & Grill (Another California burger place)

And Yelp’s number one choice is:

1…In-N-Out Burger. (Getting ready to open multiple locations here in Nashville.)

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Vicious Duck Described By Expert As Young “Punk” Terrorizes Florida Neighborhood, Attacking Elderly Residents.

TODAY

Nothing big on the calendar today. Time to catch up on “catching up” stuff.

Have a great Thursday!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...
