Fun Rhyming Day...Oohlogah, Oklahoma...Surcharging

BILL BLOG

Tuesday November 25, 2025

Tuesday is here and it’s going to be nice. Sunny and a high of 68.

YESTERDAY

I sat in a writing room with my American Idol buddy Alex Miller and our friend Barry Hutchens and wrote a fun song born from an idea that Barry brought with him from North Carolina. Both Alex and Barry play guitar much better than me so my main job was to just sit there and try to look pretty. A very tough job these days.

The song turned out great and I got to hear the song “Memories and Gin” that Alex and I wrote that Alex just recorded for his new album out later this year. If you like George Strait songs you should like this one as well.

Alex has a new duet coming out shortly with Tracy Byrd which should do well. You can see how much fun these two are having together with this fun SONG

While we were writing yesterday a young man knocked on our writing room door and introduced himself. It was Levi Mills who is part of the Dove Award winning trio “The Sound” and he was writing in the room next to ours.

He heard Alex singing and recognized his voice so he wanted to meet Alex. Levi told Alex how much he loved the song “Little More Country Than You” that I wrote with Alex which is the current single duet from Alex and Emily Ann Roberts.  So that was cool to hear. Levi plays drums in the trio with his Dad who’ve I’ve written with and his brother. Here’s a little SAMPLE of their great music.

It was a great day at the publishing company yesterday.

SONG OF THE DAY

How about some Western swing today? This is one of my favorite songs that I helped write with Paul Bogart and Zach Runquist All ThatCowboy Jazz.” That Paul recorded the heck out of. We wrote it together one day at Sony Music on Music Row and all three of us thought it could be special. Paul’s noted producer Trent Wilmon who’s a real deal cowboy himself as Paul is loved the song as well and it became a single off of Paul’s album “Leather”.

This video was recorded in a little bar in Oohlogah, Oklahoma near Paul has a ranch and it’s so fun. When the video finished, they left the name of our song in a logo in the middle of the dance floor. The logo is still there from what I understand. If I ever get near Oohlogah I’m stopping to see that bad boy.

HEALTH NOTES

A new report out of Australia claims that creatine does not help build muscle mass. Many use it a part of their weightlifting regime. The benefits have been overestimated in the past according to the study.

Some Moms jumped on the trend of botoxing with breast milk. It was a TikTok clip claiming it worked that had many trying it for anti-aging. It didn’t take long for a leading dermatologist to point out that it’s not true.

A behavioral sleep disorders specialist claims that wearing socks at bedtime can improve sleep.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

This one was posted on the wall where I had breakfast yesterday morning.

Gee whiz. Now that I think about it, guitar strings are getting more expensive. Can I add a surcharge whenever I play it?

WORLD RECORDS

I’m pretty sure there must be a world record after seeing a list of things one can set a world record for.

Most spoons balanced on the body. 85 in all.

Fastest throwing of a washing machine.

Most selfies taken in 3 minutes.

Yep. Pretty sure there is SOME world record I can break.

MORE FLYING NEWS

A United Flight from LA to Shanghai had to turn around because the pilot forgot his passport. It caused a 6-hour delay. Geez. Pilots routinely run through a checklist when they’re ready to take off in their planes. This pilot may want to start a checklist before leaving home.

NO WORDS

Have you seen this VIDEO of a guy wearing a bear costume to scare a bear off of his North Carolina property?! Somehow it worked. But someone should be posting a big sign that reads, “Kids, Don’t Try This At Home!”

AMAZON

The Amazon Spring Sale is going on right now promising bargains for those who shop online. Don’t ask me how I know.

NO VALUE

Things we used to think were worth holding onto may be worth letting go. I read an article listing 32 things that some believe are valuable but are not.

I have both vinyl records and a bunch of Beanie Babies my daughter collected. No value according to the article. Sigh.

Other items include Hummel Figurines, Hot Wheels, Baseball Cards from the 80’s and 90’s and Barbie Dolls.

Time for a yard sale.

SPEAKING OF FOR SALE

Does anyone need a 1968 Beetle Volkswagen that was converted into a tank?

That bad boy is for sale here in Nashville. The owner says he will take $25,000 for it. It has 55,000 miles on it. I think I’ll buy it then stash my Beanie Babies and Vinyl Records in the back seat.

CHEESECAKE

The Cheesecake Factory has added 20 new items to its already large menu.

A friend of mine joked that it will now take 3 hours to read their menu as opposed to the normal 2 hours.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Watching TV With Husband Suddenly Realizes He Named Their 1-Year-Old Daughter After a Batman Character. (Penguin is a girl’s name…right?)

TODAY

My co-writer is at the Doctor’s office today dealing with those pesky allergies so many are dealing with right now. So my day has opened up to get out and enjoy some of the Tennessee sunshine.

Have a great Tuesday!

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

A Baby Song...Parrot Head Show...Spring Break

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 16, 2025   Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne , who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. I was happy to be her co-writer on this yesterday.     MOTM GIG I found out yesterday that my friend Brent Burns and I will be playing a show on one of the ma...

Shows Ahead...A New Line Dance...Tax Day

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 15, 2025  And a Happy Tuesday to y’all. Another storm rolled through here late last night that got a little loud. After a high of 84 in Nashville yesterday we’ll have a high of just 63 today. And that’s why the storm rolled through I’m guessing.   YESTERDAY I had yesterday off from any appointments so I caught up on some things. My calendar will be full of traveling and shows in the back half of the year, so it’s nice to have some downtime for the next couple of months. Here’s a look at the upcoming shows through the end of May.   Thursday, May 1 I’ll be at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier . This will be a 6 pm dinner show.   Friday May 2, I’m at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville for a private corporate event where myself and several other writers will be writing songs with corporate folks that will then be turned into line dances. ...
