Friday morning and here comes the first weekend of the New Year. 42 for the high today but the forecast is showing we might get some rain and snow on Sunday. Nobody round here need that.

 

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Thomm Jutz out at his house studio east of Nashville. Good stuff always seems to happen when I write with him. And yesterday was no exception. I brought a start to a song he liked, and we were finished in an hour I’d say and then recorded the song. Tom is such a tasty guitarist and he always makes anything I have mucho better.

 

And Thomm and I share the fact that we are both fast writers. As I packed up my guitar and walked out of the studio he joking said, “the only problem writing with you is that it takes SOOOO long.”


 

 Good day of rhyming.

 

CHART

Glad to see our song “God Never Made A Mountain” by Kristy Cox, written with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling is still hanging in some charts like this RadioMusicDJ.com chart. Thank you to the folks who make up this chart for showing this song of inspiration some love and giving it some spins.



 

NEW SHOW

My friend Jim Parker from Huntsville called yesterday to book our “Hits & Grins” trio for a return performance for his wonderful Jim Parker Songwriter Series that he’s hosted at the Von Braun Playhouse Theater for many years. It’s truly one of the best songwriters series in the entire country. So myself, Victoria Venier and Steve Dean are happy to announce we will be there on November 7 of this year…a Friday night. There’s a GREAT buffet dinner before each show as well.



 

I think this might be my 5th time or so for playing the series with different folks. The last time I was there the filmed this version of me singing “Face For Radio.”  Looking forward to going back and singing it again.

 

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing “She Always Danced Alone” written with Australian artist Alan Mackey…a fairly noted country music artist down under. Another Aussie friend set this writing session up. That would be Angus Gill who produced the song and the album that it went on. It’s got a great Spanish flavor to this Mexican story of love and heartbreak…and it’s one of my favorite arrangement for any song of mine. Check it out.

 

 SONG TEASE

Here’s fun “tease” of a new duet I wrote with these two young country stars Alex Miller & Emily Ann Roberts that will be released later this month. “Little More Country Than You” that Alex posted on his Facebook page yesterday. This is a really fun song with the two of them arguing over which of them is more country.

Although…I have to confess that when Siri listened to my conversations…I heard her snoring.

A real estate expert says the best color for the front door on your home to make it inviting and easier to sell is the color blue. Who knew?

I’ve colored my front door “camo” so salesmen and Jehovah Witnesses can’t find it.

Not much of anything important today. A little catching up on stuff before a lazy weekend ahead. And I’m getting better and better at being lazy these days.

 

It gets a little busier for the rest of January as these shows are coming up.

Jan 28…The Bluebird Café in Nashville with Steve Dean, Victoria Venier and Brent Burns.

 

So…yea…feet up this weekend.

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. A Baby Song...Parrot Head Show...Spring Break

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 16, 2025   Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne , who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. Shows Ahead...A New Line Dance...Tax Day

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 15, 2025  And a Happy Tuesday to y’all. Another storm rolled through here late last night that got a little loud. After a high of 84 in Nashville yesterday we’ll have a high of just 63 today. And that’s why the storm rolled through I’m guessing.   YESTERDAY I had yesterday off from any appointments so I caught up on some things. My calendar will be full of traveling and shows in the back half of the year, so it’s nice to have some downtime for the next couple of months. Here’s a look at the upcoming shows through the end of May.   Thursday, May 1 I’ll be at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier . This will be a 6 pm dinner show.   Friday May 2, I’m at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville for a private corporate event where myself and several other writers will be writing songs with corporate folks that will then be turned into line dances. ...
