BILL BLOG
Monday March 31, 2025
Hello Monday morning. And welcome to the very last day of March…already. Last night we had high winds. High enough that it blew away at least one home in the Nashville area. Some rain, lightning, and thunder also showed up. Our power stayed on and we’re always grateful for that. Today we’ve got a little more rain with a high of 76 in Music City.
THE WEEKEND
On Friday morning I wrote with Stuie French again of the French Family Band. Talented family to say the least. Stuie and his son Sonny are extremely good guitar players and Mom Camille is a great singer. Stuie is out on the road some too with my friend Jimmy Fortune playing shows all over the country.
I got some good news from Stuie as he confirmed that the new album the band is working on will include a Western Swing song the two of us wrote that the band is already performing in their shows “Ya Gotta Go Through Texas” (To Get to Tennessee).
But Friday morning the two of us wrote a sad country song that’s just the time of thing that Camille could sing and bring the house down with. We’ll see, but the two of us sure felt good about the song after finishing it up. It was a really good morning of writing.
MO MO DETAILS
I’m back in Missouri on July 5 for the Mo Mo Festival…all about the legend of the Big Foot that supposedly terrorized Louisiana, Missouri all those years ago and still lives on today for many in that Mississippi River town. I’m going to be there to sing that record I recorded about that phenomenon on a Riverfront Stage. That doggone monster has been chasing me since I was young.
It truly is the story and song that will never die. For me, it will be fun to go back home again and see friends and sing that song one more time. More details are now in the calendar section here on my website.
SONG OF THE DAY
I’m writing with Australian Angus Gill later today so I thought today’s song should be one that was recorded “Down Under” if you will. This song is “She Always Danced Alone” that Alan Mackey, a well-known artist recorded that hit the Australian Country Charts after it was released. This one was born from an idea Alan had about a terrific dancer who always danced alone on the dance floors. I heard it as a kind of Spanish thing and that’s how Angus, Mackey, and I wrote it that day online with the two of them in Australia. I love the arrangement of this little mysterious tune that Angus produced. Check it out.
HEALTH NOTES
Over 212,000 pounds of liquid eggs are being recalled because they may contain a cleaning solution with sodium hypochlorite. (What is it with eggs lately?)
A popular fast-food chain in Japan is shutting down temporarily following reports of rat-infested soup. (For the record, I don’t ever want to see a rat back floating in my chicken noodle)
Research from England is saying night owls are unhealthier than those that go to be early. It suggests that night owls are more likely to develop diabetes and struggle with anxiety and depression.
HERE’S YOUR SIGNS
Something Jeff Foxworthy posted on his Facebook. Nothing like your kid talking fishing “smack” at ya.
DAD BRAGGING...AGAIN
My daughter made this by hand. My Mom sewed...and now my daughter. And there's more to this little dress story coming soon.
MARCH MADNESS
I did watch a lot of Elite 8 games this weekend. All 4 #1 seeds have made it to the Final Four in San Antonio. A rarity to say the least. The last time that happened was 17 years ago.
The bad news is there were no Cinderella stories this year to celebrate as basketball fans.
The good news it should be a heck of a Final Four coming up this weekend.
THEM AND US
Lauren Sanchez who is about to marry kazillionaire Jeff Bezos bought a coffee mug that costs $5,750 bucks. A danged coffee cup.
My cup is a little cheaper.
MUSEUMS
It’s getting to be that time of year for family vacations. And with that comes checking out museums for some. It would be hard for me to pick my favorite but I do love the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, and the Air Museum in Pensacola that’s on the Navy Base that’s home to the Blue Angels.
The most unusual museum I’ve been in that I like is the “House on The Rocks” in Wisconsin. Room after room of every type of collection that you can think of that were gathered by some rich guy from there who traveled all over the world. He had a build a place just to hold all that stuff. Heck, you walk into one room and you see full-size spinning calliope.
There are other unusual museums to check out across the country including the Spam Museum up in Minnesota.
The UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico of course.
And who would not want to see the Funeral Museum in Houston, Texas?
Okay, I might pass on that one.
THEY’RE STEALING WHAT?
How valuable are Nike shoes? Valuable enough that there have been multiple train robberies of freight cars in the Southwest that were loaded with Nikes. They’ve already caught two of the train bandits.
You never saw that in those old western movies where the bad guys saddle up to rob a train full of tennis shoes.
BEST PLACES TO LIVE IN AMERICA
That list just came out. Last year Naples, Florida was #6. This year it’s the number one place to live in the USA.
The rest of the Top 5 in order are:
2 Colorado Springs
3 Boise
4 Greenville, SC
5 charlotte
HUSBAND QUOTE
My wife says I never listen…or something like that.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
MIT Student Created Device That Can Scan the Entire Internet with His Mind. (So just by thinking he can pull up all the cat videos he wants. That truly is progress.)
TODAY
This past Friday I wrote with an Australian (Stuie French) and today I write with my young friend Angus Gill who is also an Aussie and his friend Blue Foley. I think I’m starting to speak with a bit of an Aussie accent mate.
Have a great Monday!
