Polar Vortex...Cancellations...Fake Dollars

BILL BLOG

Tuesday February 18, 2025

Tuesday morning in Nashville and we are under a winter weather advisory. Maybe 4 inches of snow landing overnight into noon tomorrow. Yikes. Don’t want any of that. Grocery store run later today as the road we live on could be impassable for a couple of days.

A high of 38 in Nashville today…Thursday’s high will only be 18. It’ never good when the weather folk start going on and on about the Polar Vortex.

Glad I’ve got a little run to warmer weather and the beach at the end of this week.

YESTERDAY

I cancelled a writing appointment because I came down with whatever I have. Sore throat being the worst part of it so far. Seems like almost everyone I know has something right now…add me to the list. So, I’m getting LOTS of sleep which is why this morning’s Blog is being posted quite a bit later than usual because I slept in a little later.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing “Houdini” that my Missouri friend Becky Denton recorded. Different. I love the production on this song the two of us wrote. Becky included the song on her last album.

HEALTH NOTES

Research says that if you had a bad dream to take some creatine the next morning.

Research shows that only 11% of recall our dreams. I’d be one of them. They say those who do recall their dreams have a positive attitude about dreams, they let their minds wander, they live in warmer weather and are younger.

Studies are showing that reusable water bottle may be a breeding ground for strep and fecal bacteria.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Wonder if they’ll be a Pilsner or a Lite?

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

I might finally be able to climb a mountain if I do what some Chinese hikers are doing. They rent robotic legs to help them.

I can either do that or do what I’ve always done. Just ride the gondola to the top of the mountain.

SPEAKING OF MOUNTAINS

A publication reveals that the #1 bucket list place to see over the last year from Google searches would be Yosemite National Park. Fairly surprising.

It is beautiful. El Capitan is magnificent.

And the Ahwahnee Hotel inside the park is more than worth a visit.

I would personally choose the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone over Yosemite but you can't go wrong choosing any of these National Parks.

The rest of the Top 5 bucket list places to see include the Great Wall of China, Pompeii, Niagara Falls and Sengretti.

DELTA

Another plane incident yesterday when the Delta flight flipped over in Canada. Amazing that everyone on board was safe. 9 injured…but all safe.

I don’t think Delta will be using “we can land upside down” as a logo anytime soon. It does kind of make one pause before they board a plane right now doesn’t it?

FAKE DOLLARS

Nashville musicians are saying they are seeing an increase in fake money tipping. A lot of musicians in this town work for tips. Out on the streets and even inside the honkytonks the biggest part of their income is tipping. I can’t imagine what goes through someone’s mind to drop counterfeit money into a tip bucket. Just don’t leave anything and go on. Geez.

If I were those musicians I might try “fake singing”.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Students Claim High School Teacher Identifies As A Cat, Sparking Major Debates. (Yep…I could see some discussion and arguments there. Especially with any student who identifies as a dog.)

 TODAY

More rest today…and I have an online writing appointment with my friends Darin and Brooke Aldridge this evening if I’m up to it. The great thing about writing online is you can’t infect anyone with whatever it is you have. So, I’ve got that going for me.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Quiet New Year...Ray Stevens...A Look Back

BILL BLOG January 1, 2025   Wednesday…bring with it the very first day of a New Year. Time flies don’t it?   YESTERDAY A lazy New Year’s Eve day around the Whyte House. My wife and I called our daughter Heather over in Germany to wish her a Happy Birthday…yep a New Year’s Eve kid. She and her husband Casey were in a theme park in the Netherlands called “Efteling” to celebrate the occasion. The two of them took us there when we were over in Germany last year so in our minds at least…we could picture where they were at. More on the Germany trip at the end of today’s Blog in the “Looking Back” section.   TWEAKING I also spent a little time on the phone with producer-writer-singer Jerry Salley who is recording a song I helped write with my friend Andrea Pearson tweaking some lyrics of that song that young-talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens is getting ready to record on her next album. Heck of an up-tempo tune and we wanted to make s...

Fast Writing...Chart Action...Fun Duet

BILL BLOG Friday January 3, 2025   Friday morning and here comes the first weekend of the New Year. 42 for the high today but the forecast is showing we might get some rain and snow on Sunday. Nobody round here need that.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Thomm Jutz out at his house studio east of Nashville. Good stuff always seems to happen when I write with him. And yesterday was no exception. I brought a start to a song he liked, and we were finished in an hour I’d say and then recorded the song. Tom is such a tasty guitarist and he always makes anything I have mucho better.   And Thomm and I share the fact that we are both fast writers. As I packed up my guitar and walked out of the studio he joking said, “the only problem writing with you is that it takes SOOOO long.”    Good day of rhyming.   CHART Glad to see our song “ God Never Made A Mountain” by Kristy Cox , written with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling is still han...
