BILL BLOG
Thursday February 27, 2025
Thursday morning and it’s my last day on the beach. No blog here tomorrow morning (Friday) as I’ll be on the road home to Nashville.
Sunshine and 72 for the high on the coast for my last day.
YESTERDAY
It was a postcard day here in Panama City yesterday. Mid to upper 70s, and not a cloud in the sky.
I did take time out to do a radio interview with Country Broadcast Hall of Famer Terry Buford who’s on the air these days at KZHE Radio in Magnolia Springs Arkansas, somewhere near the Louisiana and east Texas borders. Terry has been broadcasting for over 50 years now so it was a pleasure to chat with him about radio and country music and other things. He played a few songs of mine on his show during the interview. “Spam”, “Face For Radio” and “King of Karaoke”. Terry’s an old pro in every sense of the word and he made our 45-minute or so interview very fun and easy.
And he gave me a chance to plug the two shows I have in east Texas next weekend with Linda Davis and Lang Scott as his audience is within driving distance. Friday, March 7 in Crockett, Texas and then March 8 in Marshall, Texas.
Really enjoyed the time on air with Terry. If you’d like to listen…here’s the LINK that will take you there.
FEET UP
When the interview finished, I pretty much had my feet up enjoying the coastline down here.
This week has been the perfect medicine for making me feel better again.
Thank you to my wife for writing the prescription and to my publishing company Billy Blue for giving me the run of this place this past week. Gonna be hard to leave these sunsets early Friday morning.
NEW SHOW
I’ll be with my “Hits & Grins” Trio with Steve Dean and Victoria Venier for a show on Thursday evening May 1 at the Listening Room Café in Nashville. A great venue to catch a songwriter show with great food. There’s always a great crowd and the sound in that room is always awesome. If you are in or near Nashville on May 1, book a table and come see us!
SONG OF THE DAY
My friend Rob Bellamy asked me to write a wedding song with him for his now wife Ayla Brown. Both of them are great singers, and we’ve co-written several songs. But this one was special. He had the title “New Last Name”. We wrote it, and then he surprised his bride at their wedding out in the Boston area when the song started playing for their “first” dance as a married couple. Ayla pretty much cried all of her wedding makeup off while they danced.
And this is one of the reasons I love writing songs. It’s a great non-monetary reward when you know you’ve helped create something that will be treasured for an entire marriage. Click the link above and listen.
HEALTH NOTES
A child in Texas has died of the measles outbreak there. The first. 120 are infected.
That Norovirus has hit 80 passengers and crew of a Holland America Cruise that left Florida.
Research claims that every hot dog eaten claims 36 minutes of a healthy life. Uh oh…guess I can’t go a baseball game anymore. Meanwhile, if you eat a banana you get 13 minutes back…they say.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep…really hard to find.
PLUG IT IN
New stats say that 1 in 10 of every car sold in America is now an electric vehicle. Again…Dylan said it. “The Times They Are A-Changin’”.
ELVIS
The 9th Annual Elvis Festival is coming up March 13-16 in Franklin, Tennessee…just south of Nashville. 30 of the best Elvis tribute artists will be performing over those three days and there will be an “Elvis” contest with winners advancing to a contest at Graceland. Pretty sure I don’t know what inspires someone to put on a jumpsuit and get their Elvis on.
Okay…there was that short lived phase of my musical life…but let’s try and let that go okay?
Feels like a good time to share this song that I wrote with Wil Nance that landed on my “Off The Wall” comedy-song album. “I Ain’t Coming Back, And Neither Is Elvis.”
TRAGEDY
What in the world happened? One of our great actors Gene Hackman was found dead in his home in Santa Fe along with his wife and dog. And at this early-stage police are saying they don’t suspect any foul play. Hard to imagine what might have happened.
Gene Hackman was 95.
FED UP
A British man got so fed up with a huge pothole that he did this.
The road crew came and fixed it shortly after. Sometimes being creative pays off more than calling and complaining to someone on the phone.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Restaurant Owner Stunned as Woman Walks in Restroom and Steals Bathroom Sink. (Hopefully she washed her hands first)
TODAY
One last day here on the Gulf. Some of the time will be spent packing for an early departure to Nashville in the morning. I’m packing a bunch of great sunset pictures to take home with me.
Remember…no Blog here tomorrow. Back at ya from Nashville “Come Monday”. And now I’m hearing Jimmy Buffett singing in my ears.
Have a great Thursday, Friday and weekend!
