Computer Fun...Music With Guinness...Stolen Eggs

First Hump Day of the New Year. Wednesday!
We’ve had a couple of days of warm weather and sunshine in Nashville but there’s rain in the forecast with possible storms the next couple of days. Today’s high will be near 60.

YESTERDAY
Well, they rebuilt a computer for me so this is the first Blog on the new laptop they handed me yesterday. So I’m hoping things look fairly normal here in the Blog. Everything looks different and I’ll have to go back to the computer shop later today to have them make some adjustments and help me find some things I can’t seem to find. Sigh.

LAST NIGHT
My young American Idol friend Alex Miller was playing a songwriter round at an Irish Pub near me so I went out to cheer him on along with a couple of my publishers who also publish Alex’s songs. And of course when you’re in an Irish Pub you HAVE to order a pint of Guinness. It’s the law.

McNamara’s is a great Irish Pub here in Nashville owned by a musician-songwriter Sean McNamara. For those of you who have been to a McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola or Destin, Florida…McNamara’s has that kind of atmosphere and great Irish food…AND music.

Alex did a couple of songs we’ve written together and had the audience loving him before nights end. Really fun songwriter round last night.

NEXT SHOW
I’ll be back at the Bluebird Cafe next week on February 18 in a songwriter round with my friends Barry and Will Hutchens…a father and son team from North Carolina and our mutual bluegrass friend Laura Leigh Jones who also lives in North Carolina these days.

And yesterday I had conversations that could lead to new shows in Colorado, Alabama, Florida and North Carolina. Stay tuned for more on those. Check out my complete tour schedule for now here on the website under the TOUR tab.

SONG OF THE DAY
Makes sense to share an Alex Miller song here that I helped him write along with our talented friend Josh Shilling who’s playing keyboards for Wynonna these days. Josh walked in with a title “Never Saying Never To Forever Again” and he had a little start on the idea. Hard to beat a great title like that one so we wrote it and Alex recorded the song a few months later. Check it out by clicking on the link.

HEALTH NOTES
A study suggests  that playing classical music to babies inside the womb can stimulate their development.

A man ended up in ER after drinking 6 gallons of milk in two days. Yep, that’ll do it.

Experts say that the craving for eating ice could be a sign of specific type of anemia caused by iron deficiency. Plus it’s hard on the teeth.

HERES’S YOUR SIGN

Who knew bagels were combustible?

SUPERBOWL COMMERCIAL
Here’s a tease on one we will see Sunday featuring Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodgriguez of the “Fast and Furious” movies.  They're selling Haagen Daz in this COMMERCIAL.

SPEAKING OF THE SUPER BOWL
It’s been confirmed that Taylor Swift will be at the Super Bowl to root on her boyfriend Travis Kelce who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. So this year’s Super Bowl drinking game may be to drink a shot every time they put a camera on Taylor.

JUST WHAT YOU NEED!
Where to put your pills? Someplace you’d never suspect. How about in a macaron?

Yep…available on Amazon. $13 gets you a six pack. Nothing like getting your meds out of a cookie.

DESPERATE
Egg prices are so ridiculous that it led to someone stealing 100,000 eggs from a distribution trailer in Pennsylvania. 100,000 Grade A’s! I’d be putting a lock on any distribution trailers filled with bacon.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Adam and Eve Were Astronauts. (That one came from the infamous National Enquirer…always reliable. And I’m guessing that despite NASA’s warnings…Eve somehow got Adam to drink the Tang.)

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO
The Academy Awards are coming up in early March. How many actors or actresses will use that stage to make some kind of political statement? Bound to happen…seemingly always does. And that brings me to Cindy Adams the New York Post writer who says about all of that, “My big issue is they should shut up. Just thank God for big cars, big homes, big egos, big iron gates, big opportunities, big holidays, big designers, big divorce lawyers and big dinners with their psychiatrists.

Geez Cindy…what do you really think?

TODAY
I’m off to write with two girls from the “Three Times A Lady Trio”. That would be Kennedy Scott who’s not far off from delivering her first baby…a new little harmony singer I’m guessing and Victoria Camp. Always fun creating something with these two.

Then it’s back to the computer shop before going to a little birthday party celebration this evening for another co-writer friend Angus Gill who moved here a few months ago from Australia. And no…it won’t be at an Outback Steakhouse.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

Quiet New Year...Ray Stevens...A Look Back

BILL BLOG January 1, 2025   Wednesday…bring with it the very first day of a New Year. Time flies don’t it?   YESTERDAY A lazy New Year’s Eve day around the Whyte House. My wife and I called our daughter Heather over in Germany to wish her a Happy Birthday…yep a New Year’s Eve kid. She and her husband Casey were in a theme park in the Netherlands called “Efteling” to celebrate the occasion. The two of them took us there when we were over in Germany last year so in our minds at least…we could picture where they were at. More on the Germany trip at the end of today’s Blog in the “Looking Back” section.   TWEAKING I also spent a little time on the phone with producer-writer-singer Jerry Salley who is recording a song I helped write with my friend Andrea Pearson tweaking some lyrics of that song that young-talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens is getting ready to record on her next album. Heck of an up-tempo tune and we wanted to make s...
