Clear Roads...#1 Song...Drawings

BILL BLOG

Thursday February 20, 2025

Thursday morning in Nashville and it’s still a little white outside my windows this morning. Just 20 for a high today in Nashville.

YESTERDAY

However, the weather guy was predicting more than we got and before days end yesterday the road we live on was clear. This is how it looked at about 7 AM yesterday morning.

And by early afternoon the road was clear.

Until this year they never plowed our road. We had to wait for it to melt to get out…especially with no 4-wheel drive. So, thanks to whomever put us on the “plow” list!

THE COLD…NOT THE WEATHER…THE OTHER COLD

The rest of the day was spent nursing this cold or whatever it is I have. I’ve drained the medicine cabinet by now and I’m still waiting to shake this thing. I’m thinking I might be rolling my sleeve up later today.

NUMBER 1

Some good news came in yesterday morning when the song “Country Faith” that I helped write went to #1 on this gospel-grass chart for Kristen Bearfield that features gospel great Karen Peck singing on the record.

This is a song that Kristen asked me to help her write along with Tim McGraw’s great guitar player Bob Minner. Boy, am I glad she asked. Thank you so much Kristen.

And down just a few slots below is “God Never Made A Mountain” that I wrote with Josh Shilling and Andrea Pearson that recorded.

Really good news. Thank you to all involved with these two singles.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’ve selected the song “My Favorite Color” (Is the sunset) that the two of us wrote in her Grandma’s little beach cottage in Pensacola one summer. I was hanging with my friend Brent Burns for a few days in Gulf Shores and Jessie asked if I’d be interested in driving over to Pensacola one day to write. I accepted and then we wrote this song from the idea that Jessie had in her mind. Turned out great…check it out by hitting the link.

BRAGGING

You’re not a good Dad if you don’t brag about your kids every now and then. That’s my theory anyway. So, I want to share these fashion figures my daughter Heather has drawn. And this is her FIRST attempt.

I can’t draw a stick figure man for gosh sake.

Heather has gotten into fashion and sewing over the last year and has made (in her Dad’s eyes) some incredible looking clothes all ready.

Just another talent she has that doesn’t come from me.

HEALTH NOTES

We had a lot of people out shoveling snow over the past couple of days. 5 inches in parts of middle Tennessee. And with that the American Heart Association says that anyone 45 or older should exercise caution if they are going to try and clear snow.

An alarming study from Sweden claims that a chemical found in US drinking water is linked to 15% higher risk of colorectal cancer, 33% for bladder cancer. The culprit is something called trihalomethanes.

This is chilling news. It’s been 5 years since COVID broke out. Over those 5 years so many Americans died from that virus that the nation’s Social Security trust fund will see a net increase of hundreds of billions of dollars as a result of retirement benefits that will not be paid out.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

True.

ALDI

That grocery store chain is going to expand by 100 stores. Budget conscious folks trying to save money shop there…so does our little family. Statistics say that right now 1 in 4 of us shop for groceries there. Our daughter and son in law live in Germany where Aldi’s originated from and got us hooked on some of their products years ago. Like these Knoppers.

Pretty danged good treat.

Now if someone can put up a chain of budget conscious chicken and egg-stores we’ll really be in business.

THEM AND US

Kansas City Chief Travis Kelce spent $100,000 on his girlfriend Taylor Swift for Valentine Day. Meanwhile this was my Valentine gift to my wife.

I won’t tell you what it says inside but it made her laugh. It wasn’t a $100,000 laugh…but a laugh all the same.

DELTA

The Airline will reportedly pay all those passengers that were flipped upside down on the runway in Canada $30,000 each with no strings attached. Which means they can take the 30 grand and still sue if they want to…and many will.

I think they are referring to that as the “hanging upside down like bats” lawsuit.

HEADLINE

Scientists To Kill Ducks To See Why They’re Dying. (Yep…that oughta do it.)

TODAY

More resting up trying to kick the crud. My entire week of writing appointments were cancelled trying to get over this…and I’m hoping today is the day I turn the corner on this a bit.

Have a great Thursday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Quiet New Year...Ray Stevens...A Look Back

BILL BLOG January 1, 2025   Wednesday…bring with it the very first day of a New Year. Time flies don’t it?   YESTERDAY A lazy New Year’s Eve day around the Whyte House. My wife and I called our daughter Heather over in Germany to wish her a Happy Birthday…yep a New Year’s Eve kid. She and her husband Casey were in a theme park in the Netherlands called “Efteling” to celebrate the occasion. The two of them took us there when we were over in Germany last year so in our minds at least…we could picture where they were at. More on the Germany trip at the end of today’s Blog in the “Looking Back” section.   TWEAKING I also spent a little time on the phone with producer-writer-singer Jerry Salley who is recording a song I helped write with my friend Andrea Pearson tweaking some lyrics of that song that young-talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens is getting ready to record on her next album. Heck of an up-tempo tune and we wanted to make s...

Fast Writing...Chart Action...Fun Duet

BILL BLOG Friday January 3, 2025   Friday morning and here comes the first weekend of the New Year. 42 for the high today but the forecast is showing we might get some rain and snow on Sunday. Nobody round here need that.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Thomm Jutz out at his house studio east of Nashville. Good stuff always seems to happen when I write with him. And yesterday was no exception. I brought a start to a song he liked, and we were finished in an hour I’d say and then recorded the song. Tom is such a tasty guitarist and he always makes anything I have mucho better.   And Thomm and I share the fact that we are both fast writers. As I packed up my guitar and walked out of the studio he joking said, “the only problem writing with you is that it takes SOOOO long.”    Good day of rhyming.   CHART Glad to see our song “ God Never Made A Mountain” by Kristy Cox , written with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling is still han...
