BILL BLOG
Wednesday January 22, 2025
Middle of a cold week…Wednesday…all day long. But we don’t have the snow as some beaches have all the way down south like in Gulf Shores and other locations. Florida, Louisiana and Texas all snow covered. Heck, they turned a New Orleans street into a hockey arena!
And the Flora-Bama that I’ve played at many times looks like this right now.
And then there’s this guy in Louisiana making great use of his airboat.
In Nashville? It’s 5 above zero starting today’s Blog. A high of just 33 today.
YESTERDAY
It was a day to stay indoors out of the cold for the most part so I spent some time pitching some songs to some gospel acts who are looking for songs right now. I booked a little time in the sun at the end of February that I’m looking forward to and I booked a songwriter festival in June.
COLORADO SHOWS
I’ll be playing at the 2nd Annual Grand Mesa Songwriter Festival this year June 6-8 in beautiful Cedaredge, Colorado out in Western Colorado. The festival is hosted by David Starr who lives there and owns a guitar shop, and he’s a musician-songwriter of note himself.
I’ll be playing 4 songwriter shows. One show on Friday June 6 and three shows on Saturday June 7 with other songwriters. And it looks like I’ll be teaching a workshop on Sunday June 7. Complete details will are in the Tour section here at my website today.
Thank you David for having me. Always great to play music in the beautiful state of Colorado.
SONG OF THE DAY
Something fun today and it’s a true story song. My Oklahoma friend Paul Bogart and his wife Tonya delivered their second baby boy in the truck trying to get to a Nashville hospital. The baby came at exit #199 Nashville heading into town off of I-40. When Paul told me this story I said we have GOT to write THAT song. And it’s all true. Listen to “The Ballad of Exit199”. Part recitation, part singing and it feels like an old Jerry Reed song.
HEALTH NOTES
Tufts University in Boston released a study that found about 2.2 million new diagnoses of type 2 diabetes and 1.2 million cases of cardiovascular disease attributed to sugar-sweetened sodas and juices each year.
Bird flu has been found in a Georgia poultry plant for the first time.
Health officials say that 17 states are experiencing very high virus activity right now.
SIGN
I feel the very same way.
SUPER BOWL
The big game this year will be in New Orleans. If you want a ticket it will set you back about $5,000. Now if you want to go in style and buy one of the suites? That will run between $700,000 to 2 million dollars. I think I’ll watch it on my big screen.
SUPER BOWL MEMORIES
I worked a Super Bowl once in New Orleans for radio station WMIL in Milwaukee. Fun time. Tickets were impossible to get so after spending three days interviewing athletes and celebrities I had to jet back home and got there just in time to watch the Green Bay Packers with Brett Favre beat the New England Patriots. Very fun time. Heck, I rode up an escalator one time with Joe Namath.
I’ve seen two Super Bowls “live” working for the media. I saw the Bengals lose at the last second to Joe Montana in Miami.
And I watched John Elway and the Broncos make a last minute drive to topple my Packers in San Diego to keep the Packers from winning back to back championships.
And I remember that my radio partner from Milwaukee…Scott Dolphin and I were stopped by a fan willing to give us something like $1,200 each for our 40 yard line tickets we’d been given for that Bronco-Packers game. We said no. And to think this year…someone might be willing to give us somewhere near 5 grand each. Geez.
JOKE
Did you hear about the restaurant called Karma?
There’s no menu. You get what you deserve.
TRAVELING AGAIN
1.4 BILLION of us traveled internationally in 2024. So tourism is back to a pre-pandemic high. Which means airport lines are getting really long!
My wife and I were 2 of the 1.4 billion as we were over in Germany last year to see our daughter and son in law. We dipped into the Netherlands and Austria while we were over there.
Happy to have helped drive up the tourism business.
SPEAKING OF TRAVELING
There’s a Texas based coffee company (Chameleon Coffee) that’s hiring people to be part of their “Brew Crew” If hired you get $75,000 per year to drive across the country to share your coffee expertise and adventures on social media. Health benefits and travel expenses are also covered.
Hopefully the job won’t turn into a…wait for it…grind.
MOVING
U-Haul says that South Carolina was the most moved to state in 2024 replacing Texas that fell to #2. North Carolina was 3, Florida 4 and right here in Tennessee we’re #5 for most moved to states. Now that all of those states are under snow and freezing weather? Look for Arizona to rise in the rankings next go around would be my guess.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Zombie-Eyed Woman Dressed As Pig In Swimsuit Busted For DUI. (Wonder if the office made her get out of her car and put her finger on her snout?)
TODAY
My wife and I will be celebrating quietly today over
something I won’t share here…but just know that we’re both pretty grateful
that today is here.
Have a great Wednesday!
