Solo Composing...New Duet Next Week...Nutmobile

BILL BLOG

Wednesday January 15, 2025

Hump Day Wednesday it is. Sunshine with a high of 40 here in Nashville today.

YESTERDAY

I had enough free time yesterday to sit down and finish up a song I’ve been working on this month and turn it into my publisher. I have to remind myself that as great as it is to co-write with other talented folks in Music City to not forget to turn in some solo writes as well. It’s great to get any artist to record a song you’re a writer on…but it’s another kind of satisfying when an artist records a song you’ve written by yourself. I’ve been blessed to have had that happen a few times…and that includes the song in the next section of today’s Blog.

SONG OF THE DAY

That would be “Blue Ain’t Just A Color Anymore” that Kristy Cox recorded. When I started writing on the idea I was trying to think of how many ways can I use the word “blue” in a song. You’ll hear several. Turns out that Kristy’s favorite color is blue…so that may have helped convince her that she needed to record this little song I wrote by myself. Thank you Kristy.

THAT DUET

I’m looking forward to the release of a duet song I helped write with Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts. The record is being released a week from Friday January 24 and here’s a pretty good TEASE of the song. Watch how much fun these two are having singing this song “More Country Than You”.

It’s “American Idol” meets “The Voice” as Alex was on Idol and Emily Ann was on Team Blake a few years ago and was the runner up to the winner.

Check out the tease video and it will give you info on how you can pre-order the song now if you’d like.

HEALTH NOTES

Research out of Stanford University says that only 7% of Americans eat the recommended daily amount of fiber despite the fact that eating the right amount can reduce cancer risk.

The CDC is reporting that respiratory illness is spreading and the highest spikes of it are found in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska.

The states using Ozempic the most are Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska, West Virginia and the state using it the most?  Kentucky.

States using it the least are Hawaii, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Wisconsin. Yep…Wisconsin is eating all that cheese and choosing not to use the weight loss drug.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 Well, which is it?!

STUDENT LOANS

So…since the government and President Biden are forgiving more student loan debts, I just sent the White House my tuition cost that I paid way back when. I graduated Central Missouri State University where a mule is the school mascot. He’d be a jackass to refuse payment…right? I’ll let you know what he says.

DRIVE A NUT

The other day I posted about Oscar Mayer looking for drivers for their Weinermobile. If you applied and got turned down…try applying to be a driver for this bad boy.

$45,000 per year, travel expenses, health benefits and a 401K!  Not such a nutty job after all.

SAFEST AIRLINES TO FLY

The list from those folks who know about these things came out.

5…Etihad Airways

4…Virgin Australia

3…Cathay Pacific

2…Quantas

And the SAFEST airline to fly is Air New Zealand.

For U.S. carriers…Alaska is #9, Hawaiian Airlines is #12 and American is #13.

AIR PIMPLE

Maybe the most creative use of a pimple I’ve ever seen.

GET THIS

1 in every 4 Americans are more interested in the Super Bowl food that’s being served at parties than the game itself. Always great when a guest at your party asks over a mouth full of food, “hey…who won the game”?

ANOTHER BAR

Just so you know…another celebrity bar opens this week on Lower Broadway in Nashville. Jelly Roll will open the doors to his place “Goodnight Nashville”. Something like 27,000 square feet.

I’m still working on tattooing my calorie intake on my face and going out on tour as “Belly Roll”. Soon as that happens I’ll be opening my own celebrity honkytonk to be named “Belly Up To The Bar.”

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Red Tape Holds Up New Bridges. (Good to know)

TODAY

A last second writing session came up today with my friends Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling. It’s been a bit since the three of us have had a chance to write together as Josh is now playing keyboard and singing with Wynonna all over the world. But he has some time off this week so we’re getting the trio back together.

We’ve had some writing luck as a team as the song we wrote together “God Never Made A Mountain” that's been a hit for Kristy Cox and is still on several gospel charts right now. So maybe we can tap that kind of magic again today.

Both Andrea and Josh are so talented and such great singers as well. Check out this VIDEO of Josh singing with the group Mountain Heart. That’s him on the piano just killing the song “Whipping Post”. Incredible performance.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

Quiet New Year...Ray Stevens...A Look Back

BILL BLOG January 1, 2025   Wednesday…bring with it the very first day of a New Year. Time flies don’t it?   YESTERDAY A lazy New Year’s Eve day around the Whyte House. My wife and I called our daughter Heather over in Germany to wish her a Happy Birthday…yep a New Year’s Eve kid. She and her husband Casey were in a theme park in the Netherlands called “Efteling” to celebrate the occasion. The two of them took us there when we were over in Germany last year so in our minds at least…we could picture where they were at. More on the Germany trip at the end of today’s Blog in the “Looking Back” section.   TWEAKING I also spent a little time on the phone with producer-writer-singer Jerry Salley who is recording a song I helped write with my friend Andrea Pearson tweaking some lyrics of that song that young-talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens is getting ready to record on her next album. Heck of an up-tempo tune and we wanted to make s...
