BILL BLOG
Monday January 13, 2025
Monday morning after a snowy Nashville weekend. And all that snow that fell? Pretty much gone. A high of 36 today here in Music City.
THE WEEKEND
Mine started Friday morning co-writing online with Angus
Gill my young Aussie friend who was seeing snow for the first time ever. He
told me there’s like one place in Australia where they get a bit of snow but
not where he’s from. So Friday morning in Nashville before we started writing
he saw his first snowflakes…and later went out and made snow ice cream…another
first. Check out his reaction HERE.
So we wrote us a new tune and celebrated him celebrating snow all at the same time.
SATURDAY MORNING
Quite the nice surprise when I got up Saturday morning and saw that the road we live on had been cleared. I mentioned in Friday’s Blog how our road just never sees a plow…we wait for it to melt to get out. But that was not the case this weekend…and I found out why as my next door neighbor told me that a new neighbor who built second home on Old Hickory Lake across the road from us is the head of the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Or at the very least has connections there. We now think he is responsible for getting our little road cleared…immediately.
So all of us that live back off this road will now ban together and pass a law that will never let our new neighbor move.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
And we took time to reach out to our son in law Casey
Peterson stationed over in Germany as a pilot for the Army to wish him a very
Happy Birthday! Today he has to fly to Pisa, Italy which is not his first time. My wife and I been to Pisa as you can see here.
When we were over there visiting he flew to Pisa and that evening guess what he brought home for dinner? Pizza…from Pisa. Can’t beat that now.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today’s song come from my Missouri friend Becky Denton. A mutual friend in my hometown of Montgomery City knew Becky and told me about her and asked that I consider writing with her sometime. We did…and have become good friends with her recording several tunes we’ve written together.
The first time we wrote I asked her who some of her favorite artists were? And Dolly was at the head of her list. So we made a list of all the things she and I both love about Dolly Parton…and also about things that Becky loves outside of Dolly and the song “I Love Dolly” was born. Then later, her now husband Will Denton produced this catchy record that we all love. Hope you will too.
HEALTH NOTES
Moderna is saying they are ‘one step closer’ to a norovirus vaccine as the virus is spreading across the U.S.
California leads the U.S. with bird flu cases. 36 confirmed so far.
The CDC is reporting that we have the highest whooping cough cases in a decade.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
That might be incentive enough for me buy one then!
BEST FOOD
The folks at Taste Atlas just listed the best food city in the world. Here’s their Top 5.
5…Naples
4…Paris
3…Marrakech
2…London
And #1 is Rome.
I will say every time we ate anywhere in Italy during our trip there several years ago…the food was as advertised. GREAT.
When we were in Rome the group we were with had an evening meal at this place.
It was a 7 course meal filled with music, and wine, and food, and wine, and ambience, and wine…
Truly a great evening. And when we stepped out the doors of the restaurant that evening this is what we saw.
So yea…it’s going to be hard for me to argue about their #1 choice being Rome.
IRONIC…TO SAY THE LEAST
The wildfires in LA are still blazing. 24 dead so far. So many homes lost. One of the homes that burned to the ground was the house where the rock group “The Doors” wrote the huge hit “Light My Fire.”
COMEDY PAYS
An MSN article over the weekend listed the richest comedians on the planet. How many of these would you have guessed off the top of your head?
10…David Letterman is worth 400 million.
9….Adam Sandler 440 million.
8….Kevin Hart 450 million
7….Jay Len 500 million
6….Ellen DeGeneres 500 million as well…tied with Leno
5….Trey Parker….creator of “Southpark”… 600 million
4….Matt Groening…creator of ‘The Simpsons”… 600 million tied with Trey Parker.
3…Matt Stone…another “Southpark” creator…700 million.
2…Byron Allen who started as a young stand-up comedian and then formed production companies…800 million.
And a lot of folks might have guessed that Jerry Seinfeld has made the most….900 million.
HE SAID IT
Maybe the reason Seinfeld is so rich is because he really is that funny. His “show about nothing” changed the way a lot of shows changed their approach from skit driven…like the old Carol Burnette show for one example…into comedy about everything mundane things.
Even radio guys like me changed. I wrote a lot radio skit type of stuff at one point in my career…characters, parody songs, fake phone call celebrities etc... and loved it. One day my GM in Milwaukee asked if I was paying attention to Seinfeld…and I had not watched the show at that point. He told me that this is where content driven shows are going. Hosts (like me) talking about everyday things that every day people are going through…and relating to that. So I changed with the trend…and found out he was right. The show got better.
Remember it was Seinfeld who once said, “I am so busy doing nothing…that the idea of doing anything…which as you know, always leads to something…cuts into the nothing and then forces me to have to drop everything.”
SMELL LIKE A GLAZED DONUT
Yep…you can. Because Dunkin’ Donuts now has a line of deodorants, shampoo, body wash and more that will make you smell like one of their donuts. Can’t make that up now.
I bought some and this morning I smell like a donut hole. So there’s that.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
South Carolina Man Reportedly Decided He Would Challenge Police To A Spelling Bee While Under Arrest. (The cop won when the criminal mis-spelled I N C A R C E R A T E D…I’m guessing)
LOOKING AHEAD
I’ll be on a plane this weekend with Linda Davis and Lang Scott as our “Evening In The Round” trio has a show in Kill Devils Hill North Carolina Saturday night.
And then Sunday night the three of us open a show for our friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge at the Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Looking very forward to both of those shows.
TODAY
I’m writing with both Wil Nance and Alex Miller today which will be fun. We’re tweaking a fun western swing song we wrote the last time together and then will tackle something new.
Have a great Monday!
