Thursday morning in Music City USA. Still cold here but warming up some today. A high of 44 on tap.
But meanwhile in Florida…
And in California high winds have whipped up another massive wildfire that some fire experts predict “could go nuclear.” Just what they don’t need out there.
YESTERDAY
My wife and I celebrated some good personal news at the Whyte House yesterday. We marked the end of little journey I’ve been on for a couple of months that ended…and that’s a really good thing. Feeling blessed and grateful for sure. I try to remember to count my blessings more and more these days. And I’ve certainly had my share of those.
Some of those blessings have been music related. Like this next one.
CHART NEWS
The Mountain Bluegrass Gospel Chart is out for the week and I’m happy to see two songs I’m part of still up near the top of this chart. Country Faith by Kristen Bearfield featuring gospel great Karen Peck is in at #4.
And “God Never Made A Mountain” by Kristy Cox is right behind it at #5 this week.
Grateful for that as I love both of these songs. And congrats to my co-writers on these two songs as well. Kristen Bearfield and Bob Minner on “Country Faith.
And Josh Shilling and Andrea Pearson on “God Never Made A Mountain”.
MO MO THE MISSOURI MONSTER…AGAIN
It looks like I’m going back to Louisiana, Missouri again to celebrate the Mo Mo Festival that will be head there. And once again I’ll be singing that song about the sasquatch they say was roaming the woods there decades ago “Mo Mo”.
All these years later and it’s still a thing back home in that little Mississippi river town near the radio station I first worked at…KPCR…where the morning guy Joe Lewis put a listener on the air who swore he saw a Bigfoot in that small town. The story went worldwide when the Associated Press wrote a story about it. And shortly after that Joe and the station owner…the late Paul Salois wrote a poem about the monster that I turned into a song and recorded.
It’s quite the story. I was back there a couple of years ago to celebrate a big anniversary of the story and the song and now I get to go back and do it again.
Right now it looks like the festival will happen in June or July. Stay tuned.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today it’s “Living Out In The Country” that I wrote with my friend Steve Dean that went on the first “Hits & Grins” CD. I told Steve about how I grew up in Missouri…at one time on a 500 acre farm with my parents and 4 other siblings And we tried to capture some of that “simple life” into this tune that our trio performs often in our “live” shows.
CHECK THIS OUT
Sometime tomorrow the new duet I wrote with American Idol star Alex Miller and “Voice” star Emily Ann Roberts “More Country Than You” will be released. Check out this American Idol video with a reporter talking about our song and about Alex and Emily Ann…pointing out that the two are NOT married. There’s been lots of speculation. And it talks about the writing of the song and the chemistry between the two.
There have been a ton of “video musical teases” about our song like THIS ONE. And MILLIONS of views already. So yea, I’m pretty excited that folks will get to hear or buy the new song tomorrow!
HEALTH NOTES
A new clinical trial reveals that drinking elderberry juice daily can lead to positive gut and bacteria changes and improve metabolism for weight management.
There are 4 different viral infections being spread across the country now. And it has a name…”Quademic”.
A new study says that men got taller and heavier at twice the rate of women over the past century.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
True love right there now.
UPPER MIDDLE CLASS
GoBankingRates finished a study that concludes you need to make between $106,092 and 149,160 to be considered “upper middle class”…depending upon what part of the country you live in.
Back when I was making $11,000 a year I think they put me in the “Go Get A Real Job” category.
DIFFERENT KIND OF SCHOOLING
I read about some parents who took their kids out of school to take a 5 month cruise. They spent $70,000 to see 21 countries and hit 52 different ports of call. Seems crazy to some…but the parents point out that for 5 months they have a roof over their heads, don’t have to pay for babysitters, free food, laundry and more and the kids get an experience that no school system can provide.
Now that I think about it, if my parents had taken me out of elementary school back in Montgomery City, Missouri to go on a 5 month cruise? I’m pretty sure I’d have been all for that.
CARRIE UNDERWOOD
So Carrie Underwood apparently told the tech folks at the inauguration “I got this” when the sound screwed up and sang the heck out of “America The Beautiful” acapella style.
Kid Rock was part of the party as well. If it had happened to him? I’m pretty sure he would have said, “Hold my beer”.
FYI
Carrie Underwood has 8 albums on the iTunes Country Chart following her inauguration performance.
JOKE
I didn’t write this…but it’s funny to me.
I played a blank CD all night last night. The Mime next door was really upset.
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, the two stars of that movie are teasing a reunion of some sort. A Harry and Sally movie sequel? We’ll see.
That news reminded me how my friend Brent Burns and I took that iconic line out of that movie and used it in the song we wrote “Men Fake It Too” that we both recorded. Take a listen…and then listen for that famous line.
MOST RELIABLE CARS
Consumer Reports just listed the top 10 list this year for “most reliable.”
10…Toyota Corolla Hybrid 9
9…..Lexus NX Hybrid
8…..Lexus NX
7….Hyundai Elantra Hybrid
6….BMW i4
5….Toyota RAV Hybrid 4
4….Mazda MX-5 Miata
3…Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid
2…Toyota Corolla
And the #1 most reliable car is the Toyota RAV 4.
Got one in my garage as does my sister Vickie. Wonder if we win anything for that?
SPEAKING OF CARS
The Chinese have developed an electric hyper car that jumps over spikes and potholes while driving itself! 1,287 horsepower under the hood of this bad boy and it can fly at 233.54 mph. And one will only cost you $236,000. At that price I guess I’ll stick with my RAV4 and continue to swerve trying to avoid potholes.
PERFECT RETIREMENT T-SHIRT
SOUP FOR YOU
That new Progresso soup that tastes like “hard candy” sold out the day it was launched. Who’d a thunk it? I do have to admit I like their soup description…”Soup You Can Suck On.”
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Costco Shoppers Brawl Over Coveted Pokémon Cards In LA Store. (Only in LA folks)
TODAY
Blank slate today. A little working on details for a couple of upcoming shows and road trips but it’s gonna be a little lazy around the house today. I can handle that.
Have a great Thursday!
