And a Merry Christmas Eve to all! 56 for a high in Nashville…60 on Christmas and mid-sixties the rest of the week in Nashville. No complaints here about that.
YESTERDAY
I spent some time in an old familiar place…but yet different. My friend Lauren Mascitti and myself were guests of the Coffee Country And Cody radio show on 650 AM WSM where I worked for several years, often time filling in for the morning guy and radio Hall of Famer Bill Cody.
When I worked there the studio was located in the Opryland Hotel. If you’ve ever visited that mammoth resort, you have probably walked by that studio and put your face up to the window and peered in. If you’re the host, it takes just a bit to get used to that.
But now WSM has moved the radio station out of the hotel into what used to be the old Roy Acuff house that was on the property of the old Opryland Theme Park and is now the home of the Opry building and a big mall…Opry Mills. And yes...Roy really lived in that house in the middle of the theme park.
And now the house is set up to be both a TV and radio studio…so Lauren and I were on this set yesterday on TV and radio.
It was fun being back there and interacting with my old friends Charlie Mattos and Bill Cody and a new addition to the show Kelly Sutton. They gave Lauren and I plenty time to plug our 2 shows this Saturday night in Lexington, Tennessee and we sang a couple of Christmas tunes.
So thanks to Coffee Country and Cody for having us on…we had a blast.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today’s song is from my friend Paul Bogart…a Christmas tune titled “Thank God, Some Things Never Change.” The song was Paul’s idea who wanted to write a Christmas song about how some families keep their Christmas traditions year after year providing a warm comfort at Christmas time. I’m sure there are some traditions, Christmas ornaments etc. that your family holds dear to your hearts. Click the link to listen to the song and see if you can relate to some of the traditions that Paul and I wrote about his Oklahoma raising and my Missouri way of celebrating Christmas.
HEALTH NOTES
The FDA raised the Costco egg recall to the highest risk level over salmonella concerns.
42% of us they say will struggle with sleep issues during the holiday season. (Eggnog at night y’all)
A new fitness trend is taking hold. Something called “Plogging”. That’s where you jog and pick up trash in your community at the same time. Not an awful idea.
HERE’S YOUR CHRISTMAS SIGN
WHAT’S THE “I” STAND FOR?
Turn out that the “I” in I-Phone stand for Internet, Instruct, Inform and Inspire. That’s according to Steve Jobs who came up with the iPhone. Who knew?
FYI…Apple is now worth over 4 TRILLION dollars…first company to hit that. That means a bunch of us own iPhones.
CHRISTMAS EVE SOLAR PRESENT
Tonight they say an asteroid the size of a 10-floor building will get close to earth. As long as it doesn’t interrupt Santa’s flight…I’m good.
BIBLE SALES
Those are “booming” apparently despite a decline in religiosity. Bible sales rose 22% through October of this year. Print Bible sales hit a five-year low of just under 8.9 million in 2020 before ticking upward again. Sales are 13.7 million through the first 10 months of this year. Americans identifying with a Christian religion has dipped to an all-time low of 68% last year according to a Gallup Poll. Half a century ago the number was 87%.
One minister says that “yes, they’re not going back to church, but they are reaching out to the Bible.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Motorcycling Santa Clause Outruns Florida Police In 120 mph High Speed Chase and Gets Away. (I would think police will be able to find him on a few rooftops tonight)
TODAY
We’re having a quiet Christmas Eve here today and will share some of it online with our kids Heather and her husband Casey over in Germany. They were out at one of the famous German Christmas markets yesterday and got to ride this bad boy in the process.
Pretty cool. Heather has figured a way where all of us can sit on our couches and watch a Christmas movie tonight which we’ve done before. It’s not like having them here…but it helps close the distance a bit.
Merry Christmas Eve to you and your families!
