Spam...All I Want For Christmas...Top Resolutions

BILL BLOG

Friday December 27, 2024

It’s Friday morning and we’re sneaking into the weekend where I have 2 shows. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.

Some heavy rain on the way to Nashville today with a high of 57.

YESTERDAY

I’ve got a few days wide open because of the holiday season…with no complaints about that. I’m enjoying eating Christmas leftovers and watching both college and pro football on the big screen. And…I got one really funny Christmas gift in the mail from my longtime friend, co-writer and member of our “Hits & Grins” trio…Steve Dean. And I went right to our Christmas tree and hung it.

Yep…a can of Spam Christmas ornament.

I should probably fill you in. I grew up in Missouri…family of 7. Two brothers, two sisters. And we took a sack lunch to school every day. Often times my Mom packed a Spam sandwich in the sacks. I liked Spam then…would still eat it today if somebody fried some up.

One year I sat down to write with another dear friend Lisa Shaffer who was the original girl member of our “Hits & Grins” trio.

I told her I wanted to write a song about Spam…and I know she thought I was crazy. But the song has turned out to be one I recorded on my “Leave Em’ Laughing” album and it always resonates with folks when I sing it out “live”.

So…with all of that….

SONG OF THE DAY

Guess what the “Song of the Day” is?  Uh huh. SPAM.

HEALTH NOTES

Climate change added 41 days of dangerous heat in 2024 according to the expert with many suffering from that.

Dietitians seem to agree that one of the best things you can eat when sick is a childhood favorite. A popsicle. Those are good hydrators they say. And now I’m trying to remember the last time I had a popsicle.

A new study suggests that dancing eases depression symptoms in Parkinson’s patients.

JOKE

This one from the Mullet Wrapper in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

I came home from work this evening and ask my wife, “Are we having salad for dinner”?

“Yes we are, how did you know?” she asked.

I replied, “Because I can’t hear the smoke alarm”.

MEGA TICKET

The Mega Million jackpot is now worth $1.15 BILLION. The odds of winning must be one in 800 Kazillion to which meany of us would think, “So you’re saying I’ve got a chance?!”

OR YOU CAN WRITE A HIT SONG

I had no idea…but the 1994 holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey has made over 103 million dollars…so far. Every year it becomes a hit again…and more Christmas money rolls in…with most of it going to Mariah and she not only sang the song, but she’s a co-writer and co-producer on that cha ching tune. (It’s made just a tad more money that my “Spam” song has made. Sigh)

STREAMING RECORD

The NFL and Netflix broke a streaming record on Christmas Day with those two football games they aired with KC & Baltimore being the two winners. They figure at least 30 millions of us were viewing each of those games. No word yet on how many eyes were on Beyonce bouncing her Beyonce during those telecasts.

A HUSBAND’S FUNNY TWEET

“My wife texted me to pick her up something called hair nourishing elixir, so I’ll be home sometime in the next 3 days”. (Been there)

TOP NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS FOR 2025

Here’s the Top 3 for the New Year…can you guess?

3…Exercise more 17%

2…Eat healthier 19%

1…Save more money

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Zombie-Eyed Woman Dressed As Pig In Swimsuit Busted For DUI. (Can’t imagine the cop’s reaction when he pulled her over and she rolled her window down)

TODAY

I had a writing appointment that had to be moved today and noticed that there are 5 college football games on TV today. So I’ll be taking advantage of that cancellation.

I’ll also be spending some time rehearsing a few songs for the 2 shows I have tomorrow with my friend Lauren Mascitti at Main and Monroe in Lexington, TN…a small intimate café. We have a 4 pm and 6 pm show with dinner tomorrow. Tickets are available on their website. Looking forward to both shows.

Have a great weekend!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...
