Thursday morning has rolled around…and how was your Christmas? 60 degrees for a high here today! Nope…not a trace of snow.
YESTERDAY
We celebrated Christmas quietly here at the Whyte House…just me and my wife exchanging a few presents. We know each other after all these Christmas seasons together. Pretty sure her favorite gift was a set of cosmetic brushes (thank you to my daughter for the help) and for me? I get a trip to Arizona this Spring to watch my Reds play some baseball in the Arizona sun. Like I said…she knows me.
Heck, maybe I can convince the Reds to let me pitch a couple of inning again!
We also spent a little more Facetime with our daughter and son in law in Germany and they too were having a pretty quiet stay at home Christmas.
Outside of that I spent some time reaching out to my brother and sisters, family and friends that I love to wish them a Merry Christmas as well. As I posted on my Facebook page yesterday, the greatest gifts I get are not the ones that are tucked under a tree.
I surely hope you and yours enjoyed Christmas Day as well.
SONG OF THE DAY
One of the friends I reached out to yesterday was a co-writer friend of mine. He responded with a picture of him and his little family having Christmas breakfast at a Waffle House. He was eating something “scattered & smothered” in a Santa hat. Takes all kinds folks.
So that helped me choose this funny Brent Burns song “Midnight At The Waffle House” that we co-write as the “Song of the Day.’
ANOTHER SONG
I mentioned the other day that I was on the air again at 650 AM WSM radio on the Coffee Country and Cody show with my friend Lauren Mascitti. We were there to sing and promote our two shows this Saturday at Main and Monroe in Lexington, TN at 4 and 6 pm.
Lauren’s “Nana” who raised Lauren was in the studio audience…you see her pretty much anywhere Lauren goes and she’s always filming. Everyone seemingly knows Nana.
The song I sang that day is a silly Christmas song I wrote with Paul Bogart and Gerald Smith…”The Dogs Home”…and Nana caught that on her phone camera as well as the beautiful original Christmas song that Lauren wrote. Check out this CLIP from the studio that morning. You'll see how much fun we had.
A NEW DUET
I’m excited for the release of a new duet song I helped write coming out in few weeks from my friends Alex Miller of American Idol fame…and Emily Ann Roberts from “The Voice” fame…being on Blake Shelton’s team. I had a writing appointment with the two of them and brought in a partially written duet idea hoping they would like it. The loved it. It’s really a fun song “A Little More Country Than You” where the two of them battle over who’s more country. Here’s a little TEASE of the new single.
HEALTH NOTES
Murdoch Children’s Research Institute is pursuing “miracle stem cell therapy” that they believe will correct heart failure in children thinking it could transform lives. That would be a great thing.
A recall of some Northwest Naturals cat food has been recalled after a house cat in Oregon died. The cat food was contaminated with bird flu.
And over 10,000 pounds of pork products have been recalled due to “health hazard”. The pork comes from the Baltimore-based Impero Food and Meats Company.
POST CHRISTMAS STORY
I read this ARTICLE yesterday that was eye opening about the child star in the Christmas classic “It’s A Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart. I’m talking about the little girl who played Zuzu Bailey…the little girl that said, “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.
The actress name is Karolyn Grimes. I interviewed her a couple of times on my radio show through the years…she was delightful and told some great stories about the film.
But in the article I found out what I did not know…and certainly what she did not mention in our interviews. She had a lot of tragedy in her life after that film. A LOT. And I also did not know that she was a graduate of Central Missouri State where I went to college. I encourage you to read the article…especially if you’re a fan of the film.
SIGN
It worries me that they had to put that sign up.
HIGH PAY-LOW STRESS
The folks at Human Interest listed the top jobs that pay well that come with low stress. Here’s the Top 5.
5 Mathematician…$104,6680
4 Environmental Economist…$115, 730
3 Actuary…$120,000
2 Astronomer…$149,530
And at #1 is Water Source Specialist at $157,740 annually.
I didn’t see songwriter anywhere near the list. Sigh.
I THINK I NEED TO TRY THIS
You can get one at Panera Bread right now…a Cinnascramble. Yep…scrambled eggs and cheese tucked into a cinnamon roll. I love lo-cal breakfast sandwiches don’t you?
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
This one from the Babylon Bee folks.
Husbands Breathe Sigh of Relief As Amazon Workers Go On
Strike. (Can I get an Amen guys?)
TODAY
Pretty lazy day around here. I see me making a trip to the gym to try and make myself feel less guilty about eating one of those Panera Bread Cinnascrambles.
Have a great Thursday!
