A Duet...A #1 Song...Selfies

BILL BLOG

Wednesday December 18, 2024

Wednesday morning…a week until Christmas! Some heavy rain today with wind and a high of 59. Could be fun driving in Nashville this morning. Maybe some hail to look out for.

YESTERDAY

My writing session was with Stuie French of the great French Family Band that features Stuie and his wife Camille and son named “Sonny”. All three talented. Stuie and his son are extremely talented guitar players as well as singers and writers.

Originally from Australia the group has been here in the states a lot of years now and have built a loyal following. Once a month they play a how here in town at the Station Inn and you have to go early if you want to get in.

Right now the group is working towards recording a new family album so Stuie and I have been writing songs that might fit the kind of project they’re going for. And yesterday we took an idea I had brought and turned it into a duet…as they are looking for duet songs that Stuie and his wife can sing together. Think we might have gotten them one that might work for them and the album. Time will tell.

CHRISTMAS MOVIE

Last night my wife and I watched a new Christmas movie “RedOne” that stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu and J.K. Simmons playing Santa Claus. Not brain surgery…but it was fun to watch. If you’re looking for a new Christmas movie this year…you could do worse.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song was written with the husband wife team of Adam & Amy Pope and it’s a beach tune titled “Alabama Coast”. They like me love the beach, and they often visit the Gulf Coast as do I…Gulf Shores, Alabama to be exact. They didn’t have a beach song in their catalog at the time so we cured that and got a very “beachy” sounding song out it. Check it out.

STILL NUMBER ONE

Pretty cool. For 2 weeks in a row now the Kristy Cox song “God Never Made A Mountain” sits at #1 on the Mountain Gospel Bluegrass Chart that wrote with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling. Some kind of good news for that song we thought had a chance the day we wrote it.

And the song “Country Faith” by Kristen Bearfield featuring the great gospel singer Karen Peck is sitting at #11. This is a song I wrote with Kristen and our talented friend Lauren Mascitti

Grateful to see both of these songs getting some love.

HEALTH NOTES

A new European study claims that a bottle of wine a week could be better than statins for the heart.

A fitness director says that 40 sit ups a day is a good goal for most people. (Wonder if I can hire someone to do my 40 each day?)

A health care expert says that just 1,000 steps a day can potentially reduce the risk of future depression by as much as 9%. More steps makes that percentage jump even farther.

CHRISTMAS THOUGHT

DEPRESSING

An article claims that the most depressing major city to live in in the U.S. is Anchorage, Alaska. Why? Because they get less sunshine than any other city. It’s dark…a lot…in Alaska. As much as I hate it getting dark early I realize I don’t have it as bad as folks up in Alaska. So I’ve got that going for me as I silently count down the days until baseball spring training camps open again.

WEIRD STORY

In Virginia guys are bear hunting. They see a big one up in a tree. One hunter fires…the big bear falls on another hunter standing near the tree and he dies a day later. Man, proof maybe that when it’s your time to go…it’s your time.

MEDICAL COSTS

Lots of talks about the health care system and co-pays. This preacher put out this on the billboard next to his church trying to make a point.

GLOOM AND DOOM

Nuclear bunker sales are soaring. $137 million dollars’ worth was sold last year alone and the amount is jumping again this year. This despite experts saying that it won’t save a life if a nuclear bomb falls. Me? I’m getting in the bathtub with a bucket over my head like I do when tornado warnings erupt.

SELFIE

A tourist in Taiwan gets hit by a train while taking a danged “selfie”. She’s lucky…she survived. It’s stories like this one that prompted me to write a song titled “Get Over Your Selfie”. The chorus goes…

Get over your selfie

Step away from that phone

Get out in the real world

Go make some real friends you can call your own

Hey everybody’s sick of the way

You keep click click clickin’ all day

Get a little sef-helpie

And get over your selfie

HOW’S THIS FOR A DEAL

Frontier Airlines is offering a one price fly all you want for a year deal called the “Go Wild Pass.” The cost is just $229 for that one year and then automatically renews at $699 a year. Pretty good stocking stuffer there.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Brawl On Airplane As Passenger Bites Another Traveler. (No word yet as to whether Mike Tyson was on board.)

TODAY

I’m back writing with two of the girls in the group “Three Times A Lady”. That would be Victoria Camp and Kennedy Scott. They are a great three part harmony group and all 3 of the ladies sing so great. We’ll have fun today.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
