Veteran Day Show...Hillbilly Home...Homeward Bound

BILL BLOG

Tuesday November 12, 2024

Back to Nashville this Tuesday morning.

YESTERDAY

Last night our Freedom Sings USA group of songwriters played to a sold out crowd of patriots on Veteran’s Day.

The show began with songwriters Steve Dean, Bill DiLuigi and Mutt Cooper at beautiful Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach.

And then myself, Bobby Tomberlin and Wil Nance closed out the evening.

It was truly amazing to hear so many songs written with our veterans at different retreats we’ve been too all over the country.

My friend Wil Nance even brought his fiddle, so we got to add something fun into the show using his talent on that instrument.

This is becoming a bigger and bigger event every years. So wonderful to see folks who love our veterans come out to salute them. We even had one World War II veteran in the crowd last night.

My thanks to the Festival organizers for putting such a memorable night together…and I can’t wait to be part of it again next year.

FREEDOM SINGS SONG

Speaking of our Freedom Sings USA group, my friend Linda Davis was asked to sing this veteran’s song “From The Battlefield To The Bedside” that is a true account from one of our veteran nurse’s that Steve Dean and Don Goodman wrote.

And then the Veteran’s Nurse’s Association filmed this great VIDEO that features Linda…and the nurse from where this story came. Pretty good “red, white and blue” stuff here. Check it out. And thank you Linda for being a part of this.

SONG OF THE DAY

Fun song here that my friend Brady Seals just released “Hillbilly Tree”. We wrote this maybe 10 years ago so it’s nice to see it getting out there finally. Brady had that title and then I asked, “what about…the apple don’t fall too far from the Hillbilly Tree”? He loved that and we were off and running…and laughing at the creation of this song the whole time we wrote it. Click on this LYRIC VIDEO and you can follow along and maybe have a laugh or three yourself.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study is claiming that drugs like Ozempic may lower the risk of early death by 74% following a stroke.

Human bird flu has been found in Canada presumably hospitalizing a teenager there.

Scientists confirm that without a doubt 2024 was the hottest year ever and many think 2025 will be even hotter.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

A true beer lover there now.

CHRISTMAS SURVEY SAYS…

That more than a third of holiday shoppers will spend less this year than they did in 2023. Individuals reportedly will spend $902 with $641 of that slated for Christmas presents. Consumers are able to spend a little less because of all the holiday deals…EARLY holiday deals online with lots of discounts to be found.

I have not started ANY Christmas shopping this year. I’m still waiting for the Sears Christmas Catalog to arrive in the mail.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THANKSGIVING?

This year turkey comes in at $2.08 per pound. But in Hawaii a turkey will cost TWICE what a turkey will cost in Oklahoma.

The Top Two  Most Expensive States for Turkey?

Hawaii at #1, followed by Alaska, and California.

TOP 3 LEAST EXPENSIVE?

Oklahoma followed by Louisiana and Mississippi.

THEM AND US

Someone bought a marble bust for just $6 and used it as a doorstop. They just found out it could be worth more than 3 MILLION! True story…in Scotland. That guy is going to be able to buy expensive bagpipes and kilts for the rest of his days!

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

I’m A Neuroscientist Who Taught Rats To Drive…Their Joy Suggests How Anticipating Fun Can Enrich Human Life”. (Confirmation I suppose that life truly is a rat race.)

TODAY

It’s back home to Nashville after 5 days with this view.

My thanks to everyone involved with the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival for making this such a wonderful event…year after year. Can’t wait for next year in November when we will celebrate the 41st time of doing this.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
