The Road Ahead...A Prison-Christmas Tune...Dolly Funnies

BILL BLOG

Thursday November 14, 2024

Thursday morning be here with a high of just 59 expected with some rain. Meanwhile hurricane Sara is picking up speed in the Caribbean and could come ashore next week in Florida. Just what they don’t need.

YESTERDAY

Twas a lazy, cloudy day here at the Whyte House which gave me time to scratch a whole bunch of things off a list of things that needed attention after being gone a week. It’s amazing how things stack up when you’re gone for a bit.

But I got through the list, and today I’m repacking for a show in Ohio Saturday night in Greensville, Ohio.

And this will start a period between now and February that’s not nearly as busy as it has been.

THE ROAD AHEAD

December 28…a Saturday… I have two shows with Lauren Mascitti at Main and Monroe in Lexington, Tennessee.

Saturday January 28 a private house concert in Thompson Station, Tennessee with Lauren Mascitti an Wil Nance.

Saturday January 18 I’m with Linda Davis and Lang Scott in Kill Devils Hill, North Carolina.

Sunday January 19 in Myrtle Beach South Carolina with Linda and Lang as we get to play a show with some other great friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge.

Complete info on all these shows and more available in the TOUR section here on the website

SONG OF THE DAY

It's never too early to share a Christmas-Prison song like this one recorded by Sly Dawg and the Redneck Ramblers...a character created by my friend Steve Ivey. Check out "Daddy's On Parole This Christmas".

HEALTH NOTES

A new study suggests that autism risk could rise with air pollution.

E. coli cases climb to 104 in McDonald’s outbreak tied to silver onions.

The American Heart Association says people with kidney disease may develop heart disease 28 years earlier.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Old Ed Bergen had it figured out!

CHARGE IT

Credit card debt has surged to another record high. It rose to $1.17 TRILLION during the third quarter and increase of 24 billion from the previous quarter. And it’s time to go Christmas shopping!

One guy was asked why he didn’t report his stolen credit card and he answered, “The thief is spending less than me.”

DOLLY SAID IT

Dolly Parton is not just gifted musically. She’s also very quick with a funny self-deprecating line. Here’s a few favorite quotes from Dolly Parton.

“I am a self-made woman, and I have the doctor bills to prove it.”

“I have little feet because nothing grows in the shade.”

“I was the first woman to burn my bra…it took the fire department four days to put it out.”

CHITTY

I’m betting that this Great Grandfather is very popular with his grandchildren and great grandchildren after converting a mobile scooter into this.

Vin Wardman, 92 years young did just that. And it was mostly built with items he bought off of E-Bay for under $400. Some great grandfathers are just cooler than others.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Homicide Victims Rarely Talk To Police. (Geez…I can’t imagine why)

TODAY

I’m online writing with the talented Brady Seals who was just inducted into the Ohio Country Music Hall of Fame a few weekends ago. Brady has been busy releasing new music, and a lot of those songs are tunes we’ve written together including the first single from his duo “Seals & Crofts 2” Running to the Sun.

If you want to know more about Brady and my relationship and some of the music we’ve written check out this YOU TUBE interview Brady did with me this year. There are some audio issues in the beginning of this interview…but if you join about 10 minutes into it…that all clears up.

Have a great Thursday!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Old Radio Friend...Country Faith...Most Southern State

BILL BLOG Monday November 25, 2024   Monday morning…the start of Thanksgiving week y’all. And I still have no idea what a giblet is.   69 with some light rain in Nashville today but getting MUCH colder by weeks end. On Friday our high will only be 44 with a below freezing low of 26. Ain’t ready for none of that now.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Friday morning writing with Alex Miller at my publishing company. We tweaked an old song we’d written a couple of months ago and made it stronger…and then wrote a stone-cold-by-God-unapologetic-sad-country song. Think George Jones sad. Pitiful really…but cool in a retro country way. The kind of stuff 21 year old Alex Miller likes to sing.   Following that Alex and I met an old radio friend from Eureka, California Rollin Trehearne and his wife and their friend at a Mexican restaurant. It was fun catching up with Rollin and introducing his group to my friend Alex.   Rollin Trehearn got his ...
