A Movie Date...Wildflower Too...Thanksgiving Eve Workout

BILL BLOG

Wednesday November 27, 2024

Wednesday…and here it is…Thanksgiving Eve. If you’re a turkey…it’s not a good idea to be loitering in a backyard today. Beautiful in Nashville today. Sunshine and a high of 57.

YESTERDAY

With a day off my wife and I had a little date and went to see the movie “Wicked”.

Two thumbs up from both of us. The two lead actresses were terrific…both great singers in Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba the Wicked Witch. The songs, as well as  the movie sets themselves were pretty spectacular. I think Universal spent over 300 million on this film and it shows. It’ll make that back and a TON more before it’s done running. And it’s just part 1 with more to come.

There's a nice nod to the Broadway Show version as the leads Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel who played the good and bad witches on Broadway as they were given a small part in this film.

Loved the movie…loved my date even more.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing “Wildflower Too” from Darin and Brooke Aldridge. I had started this idea before they joined me on their computers to write that evening. I played them what I had and Brooke said, “well…you know we did record a song titled Wildflower right?”  Uh…no…I didn’t. I couldn’t believe it and I suggested we try and write something else. Brooke said “no, I like it.”. So we finished it…and they put it on their new album “Talk of the Town” and THEN it became a single that got a LOT of play on Bluegrass Junction on Sirius XM. Go figure.

And then a very young group of sisters and a brother named The Arizona Wildflowers found the song and did a little "live" video recording of our song which is very cool.

The song has been an unexpected blessing. Check it out at the link above if you’ve not yet heard it. And thank you Brooke Aldridge for having good instincts about this song.

HEALTH NOTES

Texas has reported its first locally transmitted case of dengue fever this year. The disease is carried by mosquitoes.

New research indicates that having an irregular sleep routine can increase the risk of major cardiovascular events such as disease or stroke.

Experts say that giving thanks can make you happier and healthier. An appropriate reminder with Thanksgiving coming tomorrow. (I’ve given up trying to count all the blessings I’ve had and have in my life for one simple reason. I can’t count that high.)

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Wonder how long it takes to fill a hot tub with gravy?

RETIRING

The number one thing retirees are looking for when making a move is finding a place that will bring them happiness. A new study says that the #1 city they are choosing is Naples, Florida. Even though the median price of a home there is $749,000…$324 050 over the national median price for a home.

Meanwhile, I’m sure many retirees would be extremely happy if they had $749,000 in their bank account.

Or as one man approaching retirement age once said, “My wife and I have started aggressively planning for our retirement, by that I mean we’re playing the lottery 3-5 times a week.”

JOAN RIVERS

And the late funny comedienne Joan Rivers had this to say about money and happiness.

People say that money is not the key to happiness, but I always figured if you have enough money, you can have a key made.

COUNTRY MUSIC NEWS

The CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Lainey Wilson revealed she tried out 7 time for “The Voice” and never got past the audition round. Just look at how that killed her career. Uh huh.

Meanwhile the late Toby Keith said something that has a lot of truth in it. “Work every day of your life and you’ll get luckier.”

And Ashley McBryde’s hometown just honored her.

I’m still waiting for my hometown of Montgomery City to name a pothole after me. Anytime.

MY THANKSGIVING WORKOUT

It’s working because I've been religiously doing my "abs of buns" workout getting ready for the feast tomorrow.

TODAY

One songwriting appointment this Thanksgiving week and it’s today with my Aussie friend Angus Gill who just moved to the states permanently. Pretty sure they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving down under…so…we’re rhyming today.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Quiet New Year...Ray Stevens...A Look Back

BILL BLOG January 1, 2025   Wednesday…bring with it the very first day of a New Year. Time flies don’t it?   YESTERDAY A lazy New Year’s Eve day around the Whyte House. My wife and I called our daughter Heather over in Germany to wish her a Happy Birthday…yep a New Year’s Eve kid. She and her husband Casey were in a theme park in the Netherlands called “Efteling” to celebrate the occasion. The two of them took us there when we were over in Germany last year so in our minds at least…we could picture where they were at. More on the Germany trip at the end of today’s Blog in the “Looking Back” section.   TWEAKING I also spent a little time on the phone with producer-writer-singer Jerry Salley who is recording a song I helped write with my friend Andrea Pearson tweaking some lyrics of that song that young-talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens is getting ready to record on her next album. Heck of an up-tempo tune and we wanted to make s...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...
