Texas Trip..."Plant A Little Seed"...Dosey Doe Tonight

BILL BLOG

Friday September 27, 2024

And a good Friday morning to you from Texas.

YESTERDAY

We drove across a big part of Tennessee, all of Arkansas and into east Texas. We being Linda Davis, Lang Scott and myself. Along the way we noticed this charming motel.

I’m not sure if that’s their approval rating, or the cost per night…but we decided not to book a room and kept going to Texas. Carthage, Texas actually where Linda grew up, and where the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame is located that Linda is a member of.

And I found out some great news during our trip. Next year Linda will become part of the “Walk of Fame”  here in Carthage, Texas. This is what it will look like as this is a picture of someone from Carthage who's already been honored. How cool is that?! Congrats Linda.

I keep hoping that my hometown of Montgomery City will name a pothole after me…but that’s another story.

We had a great dinner at a place called “The Tea Room”…and old bank converted into a down home restaurant with GREAT food.

So we bedded down with full tummies in Carthage, got a good night’s sleep and this morning we’ll make about a 3 and half drive to Woodlands, Texas, part of north Houston, where we have our first of two “Evening in the Round” shows on this trip. This one being in the Big Barn at Dosey Doe’s…very cool venue…and it’s our second time getting to play there.

We’re looking forward to seeing some friends and parts of Linda’s family at the show tonight.

HELENE

We constantly tried to keep up with the track of Hurricane Helene during our trip to Texas as all of us have friends who have homes or property in that area. It did roar ashore as a category 4. In Georgia it came in as a Cat 1 hurricane. Home in Nashville, our local school system is closed today as they expect high winds and flooding. This morning I’m just hoping folks heeded the warning and took the right precautions to survive. Nothing good about hurricanes. Millions are without power right now.

Meanwhile here in Texas there’s not a cloud in the sky and we’ll have a high of 90 today.

SONG OF THE DAY

Easy choice as my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton just released a brand new 4 song EP yesterday that includes the song “Plant A Little Seed” that the two of us wrote with her talented husband Will Denton.

The song was custom written for a big seed company in Iowa named “Merschman”. They will be using parts of our song in their commercials in the not too distant future.

But the song is great on its own with a wonderful moral message…a lot of it personally relating to her way of growing up in the country. Check out the song…and thank you Becky and Will!

HEALTH NOTES

Cardiologists say the best fruits to eat for a healthy heart are berries. Blueberries for sure. Apples, watermelon, avocado and grapes are also listed as good.

The FDA has approved the 1st new drug for schizophrenia in more than 30 years.

Some fitness experts claim if you exercise before going to be you’ll sleep better.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

SPEAKING OF PET

Half of all Americans will ditch family and friends to hang out with their pet. I kind of get that. Your friends won’t go chase after a ball that you toss into a lake. Or stand by a door whining until you take them out.

ANOTHER STUDY SAYS

That nearly half of employed folks have fallen victim to a cyberattack or scam. Yikes. So far though, I have not bought a T-shirt on Facebook that seemingly so many of “my friends” keep offering me.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Stunned To Find Out She’s Dead By Reading Her Own Obituary.

TODAY

A 3 and a half hour drive is on tap to Woodlands, Texas for our show at 8:30 pm tonight at Dosey Doe’s.

Then tomorrow night at 7:30 our “Evening in the Round” show has a 7:30 pm show at the Palace Theatre is Corsicana, TX…with a special Christmas guest. I’ll tell you who that guest is Monday here on the Blog.

Have a great weekend!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

Songwriter Trio...Celine In French...Flip Phones Again

BILL BLOG Wednesday July 24, 2024   It’s “Hump Day” Wednesday y’all. 82 will be the high in Nashville today with a chance of some rain again.   YESTERDAY I had the pleasure of sitting with and writing with two very talented ladies Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Leigh Bearfield . The three of us have had a little luck having some songs we’ve written together get recorded so we were trying to write another one that someone will love enough to record. And I think we may have done that.   Both girls are REALLY busy. Lauren just recorded a new duet with young Kenny Haas, and artist from Chicago called “ Drive Me Crazy ” that’s so good.     And Kristen is on a plane to Norway this weekend for a two and a half week tour over there with our mutual friend Kinsey Rose . Kristen was recently named the TV host of “ Faith, Country and Bluegrass ” which will be a TV series out soon. She and I and Tim McGraw’s guitar player Bob Minner wrote the theme song for the TV s

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f
