Texas Show Tonight...Francene...Baby Boomers

BILL BLOG

Thursday September 12, 2024

And a good Thursday morning to you from Lufkin, Texas. It will be 81 and cloud here in east Texas today.

YESTERDAY

I jumped in the van with my friends Linda Davis and Lang Scott and made the long trip to east Texas where tonight we’ll have an “Evening in the Round” show here in Lufkin, TX at the Pines Theater.

We left at 7:30 AM and hit our hotel rooms at about 8 pm last night. Traffic accident, and some rain from Hurricane Francene slowed us down a little. The hurricane came onshore in Louisiana as a Category 2 and we drove through some of wet after effect to get to Texas.

Long road trips don’t feel so long when you’re traveling with great friends and that was the case yesterday. We stopped at one of our favorite burger places that’s located in Benton, Arkansas…the Burger Shack.

Old school kind of place with great burgers, shakes, fries and more and the restaurant uses no computers. Old school at the register. Love that.

And then there was this sign in the Men’s Room that made me laugh.

I asked God if he wouldn’t mind looking the other way.

ROAD AHEAD

So I’m in east Texas for a show today, and it’s the start of a lot of road dates.  Here’s a peek at where I’ll be next.

September 27 at Dosey Doe’s in Woodland, Texas with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. (Yep…we get home and then we come right back to Texas.)

September 28 in Corsicana, Texas with Linda Davis & Lang Scott

October 2 and 3 in Orange Beach, Alabama with Freedom Sings USA.

October 4 at in Pensacola at the Native Café for the Pensacola Songwriters Festival with bluegrass greats Larry Cordle and Jerry Salley.

October 5 at the Casino Beach Bar in Gulf Breeze, Florida at the Pensacola Songwriters Festival with Larry Cordle and Jerry Salley.

October 18 in Effingham, Illinois with Linda Davis & Lang Scott.

October 24-26 at MOTM “Meeting of the Minds in Gulf Shores, Alabama…the big Parrothead festival.

Complete details on all of these shows is available in the TOUR section here on my website.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing the song “Blue Ain’t Just A Color” that I wrote that landed on one of Kristy Cox’s albums. How many different ways can you reference the color blue in a song? That’s what I asked myself the day I sat down and wrote this tune that Kristy now sings in a lot of her shows. Thank you for loving the song Kristy!

HEALTH NOTES

UK researchers are saying that “laughter therapy” relieves depression, anxiety, and chronic pain while strengthening the immune system. (I’ve always said that nobody is hurting when they’re laughing)

The CDC is warning that hurricane Francine’s aftermath could lead to a rise in bacterial infections in the south. (Great…we just drove through that yesterday)

The CDC also says that watercress is the healthiest vegetable one can eat. (Next to mac and cheese of course.)

USE WHAT YA GOT

A Panera bread worker picked up a bread pan and whacked a customer who after the man assaulted patrons in Minnesota.

Good for her. Good thing he wasn’t in my Grandma’s kitchen back when a cast iron skillet was handy.

TOE -TO- TOE

The town of Ashbourne, Derbyshire in the UK is the toe-wrestling capital of the world for the last 50 years and counting.

Just thought you should know. I can’t remember the last time I asked someone, “Do you want to toe wrestle" without getting a really strange look.

HERE COMES THE MAIL

In a brand new fresh design mail truck.

The driver are raving about them. But I’m pretty sure they are not going to win any beauty pageants anywhere soon.

YOU’RE A BABY BOOMER IF…

The folks at Buzzfeed put together a list. Here’s a few. You’re a Baby Boomer if:

If you’ve ever adjust rabbit ears on a TV set.

If you’ve ever put an external speaker inside your car so could watch a movie at a drive-in theater.

If you ever bought a 45 rpm record.

Brent Burns and I wrote a song called “Baby Boomers” that adds a few more to that list. Click the link to listen.

GREAT COMEBACK LINE

A guy says, “Babe, if you keep lifting weights, you’re going to look like a man”.

Her response, “Well…it hasn’t worked for you”.

TODAY

It’s all about our Evening in the Round show here in Lufkin, Texas tonight at 7 pm at the Pines Theater. We are expecting to see a lot of Linda’s Texas family and friend, and I have a couple of friends who live in Texas who will also be attending tonight’s show. Looking very forward to it.

Have a great Thursday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
