Texas Ahead...The Carolinas Next Year...Europe Again?

BILL BLOG

Monday September 23, 2024

It's Monday morning everywhere you look. We finally have some rain in our forecast this week after a very long drought here in Nashville. A high of 90 expected here on this second day of Fall. Should feel a lot more Fall like come this Friday when the high will only be 70.

Meanwhile…weather eyes on the Gulf Coast for a storm and possible hurricane that’s brewing out in the Gulf waters. I’m scheduled to be in Gulf Shores-Pensacola next week for some shows…so I’m hoping nothing serious rolls in down there.

THE WEEKEND

A very lazy weekend here at the Whyte House. I was a good boy and got to the gym…and then came home and turned into a couch potato watching a lot of football over the weekend. Calm before getting busy later this week with two shows in Texas with Linda Davis and Lang Scott.

Friday night I’m at Dosey Does in Woodland TX with them.

Saturday night in Corsicana, Texas just south of Dallas at old Palace Theatre that’s been part of that community since the early 20’s.

Looking forward to playing both of those shows.

NEW DATE

Excited to announce a show I’ll be part of in Myrtle Beach Jan 19 of 2025 with “Evening in the Round” featuring Linda Davis, Lang Scott and me.

We’ll be playing at the Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre at 7 pm that evening opening for our great friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge.

This will be the first time I’ve had a chance to share a stage with Darin & Brooke who have recorded several of my songs through the years including “GrandOle Circle.” So it’s going to be so much fun that night getting to do our show…and then hear them sing some of the songs of our during their show. Can’t wait.

And the night before our “Evening in the Round” show will be in Kill Devils Hill, North Carolina for a 7:30 pm. In the heart of Orville and Wilbur Wright country.

2025 already has a lot of dates logged in. Check my Tour Calendar online anytime to find out where I’m going to be.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m sharing “Mercy Of A Train” today from Lori King & Junction 63 a bluegrass singer & band up in the middle of the corn that is Iowa. That song title was an idea a Becky Buller who is an award winning bluegrass singer and musician and she was kind enough to ask me to write it with her. Lori ended up recording it and putting it out as a single a couple of years ago.

And Lori is working on a new album and has a couple of my songs on “hold” right now which means she may record those as well. We will see.

DIRECT FLIGHTS

I read some exciting news this weekend about our ever expanding airport here in Nashville BNA. A couple of new direct flight will be offered up next year. One to Ireland…one of my favorite places I’ve been to. And it’s where we married our daughter Heather.

And…Frankfurt, Germany where my daughter and her husband live just a few miles from!  So maybe Mom and Dad might have a chance to go back one more time before the Army takes them to a new destination. We hope!

HEALTH NOTES

The latest COVID strain, XEC, has reportedly spread to at least half of all US states.

The FDA has approved an Apple Watch to detect sleep apnea.

And the FDA has also approved the first flu vaccine that can be administered at home.

MAKE PERFECT SENSE DOESN’T IT?

One falls...they all fall.

THEM AND US

Shohei Ohtani’s historic 50th home run ball he hit in Miami is worth a lot of money. They’re saying it could fetch $500,000. The Dodger superstar is the first player ever to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in one season. So far the man who caught the ball is not giving it back, despite the Dodger’s best efforts. Hard to give that up considering it will just keep increasing in worth as the years roll by. I don’t think the man is going to settle for tickets, a bat and batting gloves.

Meanwhile WNBA superstar rookie Caitlyn Clark of the Indiana Fever just saw her rookie card sell for $84,000!  I have GOT to start collecting better memorabilia.

SHE SAID IT

True story. I had breakfast at Waffle House this past Saturday morning. One of the servers asked a customer, “Do you want cheese or your cheeseburger?”  ????   Why no, I’d like a three layer devil’s food cake on my cheeseburger!  Geez. In the words of comedian Bill Engvall, “Here’s your sign”.

SPEAKING OF SIGNS

WORST PLACES TO RETIRE

This according to the publication Visual Capitalist. They base it on weather, affordability, health care and crime. The worst state?

Alaska…(It gets cold for senior citizens.)

Alaska is followed by New York, Washington, California and North Dakota for worst.

And for BEST places to retire?  They list Delaware as the best followed by West Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina and my home state of Missouri.

PARENTING TIP

Sage advice here from a Mom who suggests, “If you don’t know where your children are in the house…turn off the internet and watch them magically appear”.

HARD TO IMAGINE

The last big K-Mart store is shutting its doors today in New York. No more “attention K-Mart shoppers”. I think things started going downhill for them about the time the word “Mart” added the word “Wal” in front of it.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Survives Almost 2 Hours With 13-Foot-Python Coiled Around Her Body.(I’m going to have trouble falling asleep tonight after reading this.

TODAY
I have an open day again because of a writing cancelation today. Pretty sure my wife will think of something that I need to do.

Have a great Monday!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

Songwriter Trio...Celine In French...Flip Phones Again

BILL BLOG Wednesday July 24, 2024   It’s “Hump Day” Wednesday y’all. 82 will be the high in Nashville today with a chance of some rain again.   YESTERDAY I had the pleasure of sitting with and writing with two very talented ladies Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Leigh Bearfield . The three of us have had a little luck having some songs we’ve written together get recorded so we were trying to write another one that someone will love enough to record. And I think we may have done that.   Both girls are REALLY busy. Lauren just recorded a new duet with young Kenny Haas, and artist from Chicago called “ Drive Me Crazy ” that’s so good.     And Kristen is on a plane to Norway this weekend for a two and a half week tour over there with our mutual friend Kinsey Rose . Kristen was recently named the TV host of “ Faith, Country and Bluegrass ” which will be a TV series out soon. She and I and Tim McGraw’s guitar player Bob Minner wrote the theme song for the TV s

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f
