Day 2 Germany...Pizza from Pisa...O.J.

BILL BLOG

It's Friday April 12 where I am.

66 for a high over here today with sunshine.

YESTERDAY

Day 2 here in Germany was relaxing. My son in law Casey had to fly for the Army so my wife and daughter and I did a little local trip here in Wiesbaden.

While we were doing that our son in law was having lunch in Pisa, Italy on a training flight. He left at 10 in the morning and was back here at the house around 9 pm. How cool a job is that? Pisa is beautiful, a little touristy but well worth seeing as my wife and I did a few years ago on a trip to Italy with Brent Burns and a bunch of Parrot Head fans that was pretty incredible.

The great part was that we got to watch Casey bring the plane home from Pisa and an Army buddy of his who is also a pilot gave my wife and I a tour inside an aircraft that was in the hangar just like the one Casey flew to Pisa and back yesterday. Kathy sat in the co-pilot seat and we got a great overview of the instruments, what they do, and what it’s like to fly a fixed wing all over Europe. Pretty danged cool job. And when we got back to the house we had pizza from Pisa, Italy that he brought home with him!

Pretty memorable 2nd day in Germany.

MEANWHILE BACK IN GERMANY

While Casey was flying to Pisa yesterday we had lunch at the ole Commissary.

In the mall area we fell in love with some little moving music boxes that were hand carved by the vendor who was there selling them.

THE NURSERY

Then we made a trip to a local nursery where my daughter used up a coupon for some free plants. They have quite the little garden behind their house with lots of stuff growing right now.

We spotted these bad boys inside the nursery. Pompelmos. Translated? Grapefruits. Big ole grapefruits.

Again, a pretty chilled day in and around Wiesbaden.

LOOKING AHEAD

Check out this year’s poster for the Frank Brown Songwriter’s Festival down in Gulf Shores-Orange Beach Alabama.

I’ll be back again this year in November. I can’t even think of the number of these I’ve been too by now, but a lot. I always look forward to this two week event down on the Gulf Coast.  This year I’ll be playing shows on November 7, 8 and 9 with “Hits & Grins” featuring Steve Dean, Victoria Venier, and yours truly.

And on Veteran’s Day Tuesday November 11 Steve Dean and myself will join some other songwriters who work with Freedom Sings USA for a very special Veteran’s night where each songwriter will be playing some of the songs we each wrote with veterans. This event will be held in the Flora Bama Main Listening Room, and last year the event was PACKED. So if you’re coming to the festival, do make plans to not miss this event that honors our veteran’s on their day.

 HEALTH NOTES

Some Veterinarians are concerned because some anti-vacc pet owners are opposing rabies shots.

One leading cancer doctor says lifestyle changes CAN help one avoid a cancer diagnoses. These include tobacco use, body mass index, alcohol consumption, fruit and vegetable intake, and physical activity.

A study concludes that puberty blockers could cause long term fertility and health issues for boys and that those issues could be permanent.

 O.J.

He passed at the age of 76…cancer. Talk about having the world by the tail and then just throwing it away. I was on the air at WMIL radio in Milwaukee when the Ford Bronco chase happened. After that, our morning radio show seemingly talked about O.J. forever on the air. Pre-trial, trial, post-trial. It was a country music radio station and I mistakenly assumed early on that our audience did not want to hear a ton of coverage on the murder and the trial. I assumed wrong. The entire world was caught up in it. So I wrote multiple parody songs (comedic) about it…and there were plenty of “If the glove don’ fit” jokes. I was glad when it finally faded from the news.

Someday it will make for a drama filled movie I’m sure. Or a horror movie.

And this morning there’s not a lot of people saying RIP O.J.

MASTERS TIME

The greatest golf tournament ever “The Masters” is here this weekend. Yesterday was family day and pro-golfers like Bubba Watson. His  VERY young daughter Dakota played a round with Dad and  had an INCREDIBLE  highlight day putting the ball in front of her Dad who was catching it all on his camera. Watch THIS highlight reel.

DON’T PASS GO

How about actress Margot Robbie producing a “live” action film based on the Monopoly game?  It’s happening. Normally I would laugh at the chances of a board game being successful at the box office. But I also laughed at the chance that a mass audience would go see a movie about “Barbie”…like the one Margot Robbie starred in that did HUGE numbers.

WE’RE LOADED

Get this. 1.500 firearms were intercepted by TSA at US airports in the last 3 months. And 93% of them were loaded. Yep. Hard to get a Glock by security as your one “carry on” item.

JOAN RIVERS SAID THIS

Quoting the late comedienne, “I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw that my bath toys were a toaster and a radio”.

TODAY

We’re off to the Netherlands to see the Efteling Theme Park which should be great fun. And the trip promises to be filled with beautiful scenery. Look for some pictures of that here in the next Blog.

Have a great day!

No Phone...Nurses Retreat...Show Sunday

BILL BLOG Friday February 23, 2024   Friday morning…let the weekend begin. Lot of sunshine in Nashville today with a high of 61 today.   YESTERDAY It’s amazing how much “catch up” stuff there is to catch up on after you’ve been gone for 5 days. And that’s pretty much what I did…checked of some of those “gotta” do’s and “need” to do’s" off my list. I was glad to make some of those disappear especially considering the fact that I’m going to be on the road a lot this year.   NO PHONE And my catching up slowed down a bit for several hours as we lost our cell phone service like a lot of folks did yesterday…especially those of us who are on an AT&T plan. One AT&T posted this picture showing what his life had become with no cell phone for over 5 hours.   AT&T says it was not a cyber-attack. It was on them apparently and they’re blaming it on a software update that crashed the system. And here I thought an update made things better.   W

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so
