A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG

Friday April 5, 2024

Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.

YESTERDAY

It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.

But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!  A great decision by the label for sure.

INTO THE STUDIO

I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest songs written with some military veteran nurses a couple of months ago. I was there to produce my song “I Learned To Laugh” that I wrote with Rachel Blankenship who served our country. The musicians were so great and nailed what I had in mind perfectly in a pretty short while. They’re just that good.

And then my friend Jenny Tolman came in and sang the vocals on Rachel’s song and it just turned out great. It will be a few months before the CD is out with all the songs on it but I’ll let you know when it’s available. Can’t wait for my veteran to hear her story this way.

THE ROAD AHEAD

My next show is this Sunday at Dollywood with “Hits & Grins. Three shows at the Palace Theater.

I got several new dates I’m adding to my calendar today that have been confirmed. All of these shows are with Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our “Evening in the Round” Show.

More details for all of these new shows and others in on my website in the TOUR section.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study suggest that people with hypermobility may be more prone to long Covid.

Scientists in San Francisco have found an AI powered method for predicting Alzheimer’s up to 7 years before symptoms appear.

A nutritionist is warning that a flat butt often caused from hours of sitting at a job can cause serious medical issues including chronic pain. (My wife says I’ve been a pain in her #@!s for years. I’m going to back up to a mirror later this morning just in case)

NOT A GOOD IDEA

Some businesses should not be combined together.

 Nope. Not a good combo.

BEST BEACHES

According to Beach Atlas these are top 5 best beaches in the world.

5…May Bay, Thailand

4…Copacabana Beach, Brazil

3…Waikiki

2…Boulders Beach, South Africa

And their choice for best beach in the world?  This beauty.  Bora Bora, French Polynesia.

Hard to argue after looking at that picture.

BUZZ BUZZ

Bracing for the loud invasion of Cicadas popping out the ground within the next few weeks. There’s going to be a whole bunch of them according to experts. If you’re curious where?  They actually have a Cicada map. Check it out.

INFLATION

They say that the younger generation living in New York City will spend $200,000 in rent by the time they are 30 years old. That’s enough to buy a house of course in some parts of the country. At that crazy price I could convince myself that Minot, North Dakota would look pretty in the winter time.

FOLLOW ME

Now the folks at Apple are working on a robot that can follow you around the house. Amazon already has this one named “Astro”.

The danged things can talk to you, pull up a movie or whatever on its screen, it’s a security device, and it can even toss treats to your pets. And it only costs a little over $1,500 to buy one and have it follow you.

Wonder if I can get one to exercise for me?

POWERBALL TICKET

I shredded mine this morning. Somebody in Pennsylvania hit the jackpot winning of 1.23 billion dollars. If you see a gold plated buggy in Pennsylvania…you’ll know who won.

TODAY

I’ve got to find some eclipse glasses as it’s going to get dark on Monday after I get back from a trip over to Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge, TN tomorrow where I will overnight before doing three shows on Sunday at Dollywood.

Then back home Sunday night, eclipse on Monday and then repack for a trip to Germany. These days I never put my suitcase away.

Have a great weekend!

No Phone...Nurses Retreat...Show Sunday

BILL BLOG Friday February 23, 2024   Friday morning…let the weekend begin. Lot of sunshine in Nashville today with a high of 61 today.   YESTERDAY It’s amazing how much “catch up” stuff there is to catch up on after you’ve been gone for 5 days. And that’s pretty much what I did…checked of some of those “gotta” do’s and “need” to do’s" off my list. I was glad to make some of those disappear especially considering the fact that I’m going to be on the road a lot this year.   NO PHONE And my catching up slowed down a bit for several hours as we lost our cell phone service like a lot of folks did yesterday…especially those of us who are on an AT&T plan. One AT&T posted this picture showing what his life had become with no cell phone for over 5 hours.   AT&T says it was not a cyber-attack. It was on them apparently and they’re blaming it on a software update that crashed the system. And here I thought an update made things better.   W

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”
