It’s Monday morning here in Wiesbaden, Germany.
THE WEEKEND
Friday we had a very laid back and lazy rainy day here in Germany. So we made a Starbucks run…oh yea…they have them here too.
And then we just kind of chilled with our daughter and son in law. Chili over rice for dinner and then our kids showed us the first three episodes of the first season of Ted Lasso on Apple+. I’m hooked. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this series starring Jason Sudekis and it did not disappoint. We’ll be watching more episodes while we’re here.
SATURDAY
We made an hour trip or so to see one of the many castles in Germany. The castles are spaced out here about like Cracker Barrels are in the states. Plenty of them. We picked the Braunfels castle in Braunfels, Germany.
We signed up for the tour…but first we grabbed some great kaffee as they say here in the souvenir shop.
And we also borrowed a book with pictures written in English because the tour was in German. Some kind of experience that is.
The castle was built originally in like 1300. And back then the King did not park his car under the arch.
This Castle is consistently listed as one of the best to see in Germany and you could see why.
Lots of towers.
And towers.
And those towers gave you some eye-popping shots of the Germany countryside.
Even the horses back then were wearing armor.
As were the soldiers and knights.
And gorgeous chandeliers hung everywhere inside the castle.
Four of the original heavy bronze cannons were still in place ready to fire at any tourist trying to storm the castle.
The tour took about an hour. Well worth doing. The only problem is that my wife is demanding that I get her a chair like this one so she can rule over me. The chair stayed in the castle.
SUNDAY
We made a 2 hour trip south yesterday to the theme park that is Europa.
It’s pretty impossible for Americans not to compare it to Disney World as some rides and attractions remind you of EPCOT or the Magic Kingdom. There’s an EPCOT ball and inside this one is a GREAT dark coaster ride. Sort of like Space Mountain on steroids.
There’s a SOARING…but in this one you fly over Europe. And they don’t call it the Pirates of the Caribbean but they might as well.
The folks who built this park were engineers that apparently designed a lot of the technology used in the Disney Parks and you see that everywhere you turn.
We ate at a place in the park called The Loop.
Inside you sit down and order your food on a screen and then wait to watch your food come to you down a food roller coaster. No waiters. Very cool.
And it’s a BIG park. We only saw part of it on this trip. The park has different countries as EPCOT does. Greece, Spain, Ireland, Netherland, Italy, Germany, and others. France was off the hook great.
Despite cool, rainy, snowy, and sunshiny weather all in one day we had a great time. I would surely go again if we ever came back here. And on the drive back home one of those German churches that dot the countryside guided us back.
THREE TIMES A LADY
The “Three Times A Lady” trio featuring my friend Lauren Mascitti along with Kennedy Scott, and Hannah Blaylock released their first album this weekend that was recorded “live” at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville and feature the song “Come Back To Me” that I wrote with Lauren and Kristen Leigh Bearfield. Thank you ladies for recording this song!
HEALTH NOTES
A dermatologist in New York suggests that when you stay in hotels you should always check for bedbugs. And you can check online to see if the hotel is on the bedbug registry before you book the hotel. Yes…there is such a thing.
Experts are seeing an increase in head and neck cancers among younger individuals,, even those in their 20’s. The American Cancer Society estimates over 50,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year.
A new Gallup poll reveals that Americans need more sleep and less stress.
CLEVER
HARD TO BELIEVE
The movie, and my all-time favorite movie “Field of Dreams” is now 35 years old. Wow. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it by now. But if I’m surfing through channels and I find it…I stop and watch some of it again. On my list of places to visit. “Is this heaven…it’s Iowa”.
HUNKER DOWN
They’re saying 15 million Americans will be affected by severe weather this week. And the Midwest seems to be the most at risk. Welcome to late Spring. I see a run on generators coming.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Red Tape Holds Up New Bridges. Hopefully it’s duct tape.
TODAY
We’re going to chill out today after having a full day yesterday. We’re back on that long flight home this Thursday so we’re going to take full advantage of being here with our kids before we fly back.
Have a great Monday!
