It’s Wednesday morning and it’s our last day in Germany.
YESTERDAY
It was a plane, train, and automobile kind of day here yesterday. Our daughter drove us to the train station in Wiesbaden.
And we took a train ride into Frankfurt to spend the day.
The train stations are clean and beautiful, and they’re busy. Gas is like 8 bucks a gallon here, parking spaces are tiny because most folk drive small cars…also to save gas I’m sure. And there are lots of folks on bicycles. We had maybe 8 or more stops before we arrived at our “get off” stop in Frankfurt.
Frankfurt is a big city. A mix of old and new. Skyscrapers and a gorgeous old town section that they rebuilt after allied bombers destroyed it in World War II. They built the old town back to look as much like the original looked. And to say they did a great job would not describe it.
Busy, bustling, lots of shops and outdoor cafes.
Bridges run over the river Mainz that make for good photos. And just like in Paris and other places couples leave their love locks attached to those bridges. We say a couple add a lock while we were standing on one of those bridges yesterday.
We found a Steiff Bear store in Frankfurt. My wife Kathy loves those and has a small collection. Steiff Bears were created in Germany and so with Mother’s Day coming up, we found the perfect Mother’s Day gift for her.
And for dinner our daughter and son in law took us to restaurant with a great city view that features robots that bring your food and drink right to your table. Another first.
The sun was out yesterday and that made for a wonderful afternoon for touring Frankfurt.
TV SHOW
My friend Kristen Leigh Bearfield was nice enough to send some pictures of her and a great group of musicians in studio laying down a song we wrote with Bob Minner (who happens to be Tim McGraw’s guitar player) a couple of weeks ago titled “A Little More Country-A Little More Faith” that’s going to be used for a faith based country music TV show that Kristen is going to host. All of us are excited about the song being used this way, and we’re excited for the opportunity here for Kristen. I’ll post more on this once we get some air dates for this TV show.
SCHEDULE AHEAD
We return home on a long flight tomorrow and then it’s back to a regular routine again. My May and June give me a bit of a break. Here’s the show schedule for the next couple of months. Once July rolls around it starts getting a lot busier.
April 28 at Gulf Coast Days in Kemah, Texas (near Galveston) 1:15 pm show with Brent Burns to be carried “live” on Radiotroprock.com
June 18-19 in Heyworth, Illinois with Freedom Sings USA to write songs with veterans.
HEALTH NOTES
A new study claims that attractive women inspire men to tell the truth and women to lie.
Experts say the best time to weigh yourself is in the morning after you’ve given your body the chance to digest everything you ate and drink the previous day, leaving your stomach mostly empty.
Researchers reportedly have achieved a groundbreaking discovery in the fight against prostate cancer by pinpointing a singular enzyme known as PI5P4Ka, that holds the potential to eliminate the disease.
BEST ANNIVERSARY LINE…FROM A MARRIED MAN
“My Wife Renewed Me For Another Season”.
ROBOT DOG FOR SALE
Well, we saw a robot deliver food to our table at a restaurant we were at yesterday in Frankfurt. And today I find out you can order a robot dog if you like and this one comes with a flamethrower. Uh huh. He’s called “Thermonater”. The price tag is $9,420 for mechanical Fido. They say you can use it to clear ice and snow from your driveway. You can control it remotely so I would think the bad dog would be a pretty good defense mechanism at the house as well. You could pretty much “toast” any potential intruder. Quick way to roast your weenies on the patio as well.
ARMED TEACHERS
A year after a deadly shooting at a school in Nashville Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill to allow armed teachers. Will that help? Be a deterrent? Time will tell.
IDOL
Katy Perry is done with American Idol after this season. Lionel Ritchie has chosen whom he’d like to see take her chair. Taylor Swift. I think a ton of TV shows would love to have Taylor…but I think she’s a tad busy to consider doing anything like this. The show’s choice should be interesting.
STANDING ON A CORNER
The iconic hit “Take It Easy” for The Eagles was written by Jackson Browne and the late Glenn Frey of the Eagles. The song put Winslow, Arizona on the map because of the line, “I was standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona”. The put a statue of a guy standing on the corner there and now 300 people or more each day pose for a photo with the statue. Folks go out of their way to go to Winslow just do so…much like baseball fans go out of their way to go to Dyersville, Iowa to see the Field of Dream baseball diamond.
I did not know until today though that after Glenn Frey passes away the city put up a statue of him as well. Two reasons to go to Winslow now.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
“MRI Machine Cause’s Woman’s Gun To Fire, Shooting Her In Buttocks.” And the funny, or unfunny part about his headline is…it’s true.
TODAY
It’s our final day here with our daughter and son in law in Germany. Casey has a busy day of flying, but our daughter is going to take us into Wiesbaden to see the town where they live. And then it’s a long day of flying to get back to Nashville tomorrow. Because of an early flight, there may be no Blog tomorrow.
Have a great Wednesday!
